Danni Wyatt-Hodge joins Surrey for new professional era

Danni Wyatt-Hodge will play for Surrey in the new Women’s Tier 1 county competition next season, after transferring her allegiance from Hampshire-based Southern Vipers.Wyatt-Hodge, 33, is currently in action for Hobart Hurricanes in the Women’s Big Bash League, having recently featured in England’s T20 World Cup campaign in the UAE.Last summer, she represented Southern Vipers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy, as well as Southern Brave, who are also based in Southampton. However, she has chosen to make the move to Surrey for the 2025 season, where she will link up with England top-order team-mates Sophia Dunkley and Alice Capsey.”I am both excited and honoured to be joining Surrey,” Wyatt-Hodge said. “The club has an incredible history with a culture of success, which I want to contribute to.”I love playing at the Kia Oval and can’t wait to entertain the Surrey supporters. The South East Stars’ positive brand of cricket was an important factor in me joining the club and I’m looking forward to getting started!”Wyatt-Hodge has played 278 England matches since her debut in 2010, at the age of 19, scoring over 5,000 runs across the three formats. She’s England’s all-time leading run-scorer in women’s T20Is with 2,979 runs from 164 matches, at a strike-rate of 127.85.She made her county debut for Staffordshire at the age of 14, but has been based at the Utilita Bowl since 2020. She is also due to play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in this year’s WPL, after making the move from UP Warriorz.”We are incredibly excited that Danni Wyatt-Hodge has agreed to commit to Surrey for the 2025 season,” Emma Calvert, Surrey’s Director of Women’s Cricket, said. “Danni’s career speaks for itself, and we believe she will add strength and depth on the field as well as adding to the team off the field.”After chatting to Danni it was clear to see that she will be an incredible fit for our new team. They style of cricket she plays is exactly how we want to go about our business, and I am excited to see what she achieves wearing the Three Feathers.”

As dispensable as Nsiala: Teams have major interest in Rangers flop

Glasgow Rangers have been focused on bringing players to Ibrox during the summer transfer window, as they have brought in the likes of Thelo Aasgaard, Emmanuel Fernandez, Djeidi Gassama, and Max Aarons, among others.

However, Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell also have to be wary of the size of the squad and the reality that some players will have to move on, amid interest in some of the fringe members of the team.

As you can see in the post above from Sacha Tavolieri, there are at least three teams interested in a deal to sign central defender Clinton Nsiala.

Martin has already admitted that the centre-back, who was not included in the squad to face Panathinaikos on Tuesday, could be on his way out of Ibrox this summer, and the former AC Milan man may not be the only one.

Two teams have major interest in Rangers forward

Nsiala is far from the only player on the fringes of the squad ahead of next season, as there will be plenty of people looking at their futures beyond this summer.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers forward Ross McCausland is attracting interest from a number of clubs ahead of a potential move away from Ibrox.

The report claims that Aris Limassol and two teams in the MLS have a ‘major’ interest in snapping up the Northern Ireland international before the end of the window.

Ross McCausland for Rangers against Celtic.

It adds that they are weighing him up as a potential loan signing, whilst there are also unnamed teams from England monitoring his situation.

Why Rangers should allow Ross McCausland to go

The Light Blues should allow McCausland to leave, whether that is on loan or on a permanent basis, this summer because he is as dispensable as Nsiala, who Martin has already admitted could be on his way out.

Rangers forward Ross McCausland.

In the 2024/25 campaign, the French centre-back started ten of his 11 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, but ended the season as an unused substitute in the last two matches.

McCausland, meanwhile, only started four of his 13 appearances in the division for the Scottish giants, who have since signed Aasgaard and Gassama to play in the attacking midfield positions.

As you can see in the table above, the academy graduate offered very little in the final third from a right wing position, with zero goals and zero assists in those 13 games.

He ended the season with more red cards (one) than goal contributions in the league, having been sent off for two bookable offences against Aberdeen in April.

Pundit Tam McManus criticised the “poor” Rangers flop after those mistakes, as McCausland made a rash challenge whilst already on a yellow card to end up being sent off.

The 22-year-old dud is, therefore, just as dispensable as Nsiala is this summer, as both players failed to nail down a place as a regular starter in the league last season, and are now attracting suitors from elsewhere.

If Martin is willing to allow Nsiala to leave, as he has suggested, then the manager should be willing to allow McCausland, who started even fewer games in the league last term, to go as well.

Hilton Cartwright makes hospital run for baby's birth before helping WA win

There were some tension that boiled over during the fourth innings between Cartwright and Tasmania opener Jake Weatherald

By the time Hilton Cartwright fronted the media post match, he looked understandably exhausted after a whirlwind few days capped by guiding Western Australia to victory over Tasmania in a tempestuous Sheffield Shield clash.Cartwright had expected to get through the match with his wife Tameka only 37 weeks pregnant. But just as he arrived at the WACA ground before day two, Tameka called him and said she would need to be induced due to complications. They worked out a plan and agreed that she would be induced at around 3.30pm, so that Cartwright could dash from the ground at the tea break. He gave the heads up to WA coach Adam Voges, who was “extremely supportive”.Related

'A right-handed version of Warner': Josh Inglis launched into opening debate

“I was going to be leaving at tea, regardless of whether I was in, out or we were still bowling,” Cartwright told reporters after the match. As it turned out, No. 3 Cartwright was at the crease and in sublime touch having helped lift WA out of trouble in their first innings before retiring on 52 not out at tea.”My mind was probably a bit elsewhere,” he said. “The only thing I was really thinking about was getting through to tea to give myself an opportunity and the team an opportunity for me to bat later, or for someone to bat later after me.”After Tameka gave birth to their second child early on Tuesday, Cartwright managed just one hour of sleep before fronting up for day three of the match. He was able to resume his innings at the fall of a wicket after Tasmania had agreed as per the rules.Cartwright gave the thumbs up to Tasmania skipper Jordan Silk on his way to the crease, but was understandably scratchy and managed only a further 13 runs before holing out.Having mostly survived the day through adrenaline and caffeine, Cartwright finally crashed later at the hospital and had some desperately needed sleep. There appeared to be some tense scenes between Hilton Cartwright and Tasmania•Getty Images

With a little bit more energy, Cartwright played a starring role on the final day and scored a vital 39 not out from 50 balls to combine with Josh Inglis as WA overcame a top-order collapse to run down the 83-run target with six wickets in hand. But tensions boiled over on-field with Cartwright and Tasmania opener Jake Weatherald engaged in a war of words. They had a long exchange while shaking hands just after the match.”It was just clearing some air that I think might have got a bit misjudged while we were out there and we were able to clear what happened over the last couple of days,” Cartwright said.Tasmania quick Kieran Elliott said “that’s the game, we made our call”.”Without being entirely across what was discussed, if he was out, great result for us. He is obviously a class player,” he said. “For him to come back and get a few more away before we eventually got him in that first innings was important for them.”WA skipper Sam Whiteman believed the laws over retiring batters should be re-evaluated.”It’s a pretty unique situation and I think probably the laws of the game need to change a little bit to take the decision off the captains,” he said.”That will be discussed in the post-match, but at the end of the day the right decision was made and credit to Tassie for letting Hilts come back out and bat. That’s the right decision for the game of cricket.”

Player "personally trying to force" Chelsea move as club reduce asking price

Chelsea are seen as a dream landing spot for one player who’s actively pushing to join Enzo Maresca’s side this summer, according to a new report on Wednesday.

£50m Chelsea man close to agreeing exit as BlueCo eye "unplayable" replacement

The west Londoners are planning to go for a Premier League star.

ByEmilio Galantini Jul 29, 2025

The west Londoners are showcasing major ambition in the transfer market yet again, as has been the ongoing theme since Clearlake Capital’s takeover from Roman Abramovich in 2022.

After sealing a triple deal worth £145 million for Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro over the past few weeks, Maresca’s side are by no means done there, with reports suggesting they could still bring in multiple new attackers.

Much has been made of Chelsea’s serious spending, but going by the books, they’re in very good stead to invest even more cash into rejuvenating the squad.

Their often underrated status as an excellent selling club has yielded close to £130 million this window alone, with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Basir Humphreys, Noni Madueke, Marcus Bettinelli, Djordje Petrovic, Mathis Amougou and João Félix all departing for pastures new so far.

Countless more fringe Chelsea players have been tipped to follow them as well, so BlueCo are likely to raise further funds from now until deadline day on September 1.

This, combined with their earnings from qualifying for the Champions League and £87.5m windfall from winning the Club World Cup, gives Chelsea the financial freedom to sign more players whilst sailing beneath the PSR threshold.

Whilst Chelsea are also forced to sell squad members after a settlement with UEFA for breaking FFP rules, they’re still in a very healthy position.

According to reports, their hefty cashflow will be partly reinvested into signing versatile Ajax defender Jorrel Hato.

Jorrel Hato

The Netherlands international is closing in on a move to Stamford Bridge, and barring any last-gasp surprises, it is expected to happen pretty shortly.

Now, TEAMtalk has shared some further background on the story as Chelsea attempt to finalise a deal.

Jorrel Hato "now personally trying to force" Chelsea transfer

According to the news outlet, Hato is “now personally trying to force” a transfer to Chelsea in an attempt to wrap up his London move in quick fashion.

The 19-year-old, who would reportedly join as both a centre-back and alternative option to Marc Cucurella, is “pushing hard” to join Chelsea after agreeing personal terms – so much so that Ajax have reduced his initial £43 million asking price.

Chelsea, for their part, are prepared to go higher than their original valuation of £35m – which is the main reason why both sides are now seriously nearing an agreement.

Despite his teenage status, Hato already possesses a wealth of top-level and even Champions League experience, having made over a century of first-team appearances for the Eredivisie giants.

The Dutchman’s eagerness to join Chelsea is also a very encouraging sign for both supporters and Maresca that he’s ready to battle for his place in the squad, potentially keeping the likes of Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah firmly on their toes.

Chelsea poised for £241m windfall with another exit deal basically "done"

Chelsea are on the verge of letting another player leave the club permanently after their recent fire-sale, according to a new report, and it’s poised to take their total income to the near-£250 million mark.

Enzo Maresca’s side have essentially been ordered by UEFA to register a ‘positive transfer balance’ this summer, or risk not being able to register new signings for the Champions League next season.

This comes after the Blues were charged with breaching FFP rules early last month, with Chelsea needing to cancel out their £277 million spent on transfers by shipping out a host of unwanted squad members.

Earlier this summer, Chelsea agreed permanent exit deals for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Basir Humphreys, Noni Madueke, Marcus Bettinelli, Mathis Amougou, Djordje Petrovic and João Félix, but four more are set to follow.

In the last few days, Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu have joined Burnley, with midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also signing for Everton just one year after he joined Chelsea from Leicester City.

Dewsbury-Hall underwent his medical at Everton yesterday, and his sale has been described as vital in terms of Chelsea’s quest to appease UEFA (BBC).

After the Englishman, Ugochukwu and Broja, it is now believed that “clinical” midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is closing in on a return to Borussia Dortmund after fresh talks with the Bundesliga giants.

Carney Chukwuemeka to Borussia Dortmund "done" as Chelsea raise £241 million

According to TBR Football and journalist Graeme Bailey, both Chelsea and Dortmund consider their deal for Chukwuemeka “done”, with Niko Kovac’s side ready to pay their reduced asking price of £22 million.

Thus far, Chelsea have raised an estimated £219 million through player sales, so once the midfielder completes his switch back to Germany, it will take this total to around £241 million, if all goes to plan.

Given Chelsea are in talks over selling Christopher Nkunku too, with Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell and Alfie Gilchrist also up for grabs (Ben Jacobs), Chukwuemeka is unlikely to be the last departure from Stamford Bridge.

As Chelsea also attempt to negotiate more deals for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, BlueCo simply have little choice but to find buyers for each of the aforementioned quartet, or face being weakened for their first season back in the Champions League for years.

Sajid Khan the star turn as Pakistan eye end to winless run

England lose both openers after being set 297 to win the second Multan Test

Alan Gardner17-Oct-2024England 291 (Duckett 114, Sajid 7-111) and 36 for 2 need a further 261 to beat Pakistan 366 and 221 (Salman 63, Bashir 4-66)With a twinkle in his eye and a twirl of his moustache, Sajid Khan helped turn the Multan rematch Pakistan’s way. A first-innings seven-for was followed up by crucial lower-order runs to help set England a daunting target of 297 to win the second Test. Sajid then struck with his third ball to remove Ben Duckett, England’s centurion on day two and a key man in their hopes of a successful chase.Sajid may be an unassuming offspinner on paper, and something of an afterthought in selection – he described himself as “always the first to be kicked out” after taking four England wickets during the second evening to put his side on top. But with his shaved head, luxuriant facial hair and colourful celebrations he has brought some much-needed character to Pakistan’s attempts to break a winless run at home that stretches back to 2021.Having claimed three of the four England wickets to fall during the first hour on day three, securing a 75-run lead for Pakistan and personal figures of 7 for 111 – the best for an innings in Tests at Multan – Sajid came to the crease during the evening session with the scoreboard reading 156 for 8. England were eyeing up a chase in the region of 230-240, only for Sajid to join Salman Agha in putting on a bristling stand of 65, by far the highest of a day on which 16 wickets fell and the spinners prospered.Salman did the bulk of the scoring, making his third 50-plus score of the series to steer the target up towards 300, and England’s pain in the field was only increased by the knowledge that he could have been dismissed twice in single-figures. Brydon Carse was the unlucky bowler, as two chances went down in the space of three balls: Jamie Smith failing to hold a regulation nick behind the stumps before Joe Root shelled another to his right, the fact he was wearing a helmet and standing in close only partial mitigation.Pakistan’s recent issues in the third innings have been well-documented, failing to capitalise on positions of varying promise against Australia and Bangladesh, and it seemed as if they were primed for another stumble after losing three wickets to Shoaib Bashir to be 43 for 3 at lunch. Saud Shakeel helped steady things, although he too had a life off Carse as Root couldn’t get his hands up to a flashed cut at slip. When Shakeel was trapped lbw by Jack Leach, the first of three wickets to fall in the space of five overs after tea, England had hopes of wrapping up the innings quickly. But Salman immediately countered, hitting three fours from his next seven balls and going on to his half-century by lofting Leach clean over long-off for six. The ninth-wicket pair took less than eight overs to raise the 50 stand, as England’s target rose rapidly – eventually leaving them needing the second-highest successful chase in Pakistan, and by far their highest overall in Asia.Salman Agha made a vital contribution as Pakistan’s lead grew•Getty ImagesSajid survived being caught at long-on, when Duckett was forced to throw the ball back in as he crossed the rope, then overturned being given out lbw to a Matt Potts full toss when UltraEdge detected an inside edge; he might have been out on 20, but with the DRS momentarily down, England couldn’t review for caught behind.Carse eventually broke through when Salman spliced a pull to midwicket, belated reward for the fast bowler’s perseverance and skill in demanding conditions, and Potts bounced out Sajid. But the spinner took centre stage again with the ball in hand, eyes bulging like a cartoon supervillain after Duckett had top-edged a sweep straight up to depart for a two-ball duck in the first over of the chase.Noman Ali then produced a beautifully flighted delivery to have Zak Crawley stumped by a distance, the opener collapsing to his knees even as he turned to see Mohammad Rizwan break the bails, as England slipped to 11 for 2. Ollie Pope and Root saw them through to the close but there was plenty of work still to be done on a pitch that has increasingly taken spin if England are to extend their winning run in Pakistan. It was all a far cry from the first Test at this ground, when only 13 wickets fell across the first three days – the count now up to 32 at the same stage in the pitch second’s incarnation.England’s prospects had been undermined by the four-wicket burst from Sajid on the second evening, and he did not have to wait long for his second Test five-for when play resumed. Carse holed out to long-on before Potts got in a tangle trying to work off his pads to be bowled between his legs. Noman then claimed his 50th wicket in Tests as Smith, looking to hit out in the company of the tail, could only miscue high to long-off.A last-wicket stand of 29 between Leach and Bashir cut into the lead, before Sajid’s seventh brought the innings to a close. It was then Pakistan’s turns to get the jitters, as the top three all departed in the space of 15 overs before lunch.Bashir had not enjoyed much success on tour to date but rose to the occasion after being thrown the new ball by Ben Stokes. His third over produced the breakthrough, with Abdullah Shafique adjudged to have feathered a catch behind down the leg side – although it took some lengthy deliberations by the third umpire, Sharfuddoula, after England had gone to the DRS. Shafique’s dismissal brought an end to Pakistan’s opening stand at 9 – the ninth time in ten innings that he and Saim Ayub have failed to reach double-figures together.Shan Masood did not last long, squared up by one that ripped away off a length to hit the splice for a sharp catch to Pope, in close under the helmet at second slip. There was turn and bounce aplenty for England’s spinners and with the final delivery before the break, Bashir dislodged Ayub, who propped forward to provide a simpler chance to Pope.Pakistan needed solidity and they got it in the form of three dogged stands in the 30s featuring Shakeel. The debutant Kamran Ghulam provided further signs of his ability, following his first-innings hundred, before being trapped plumb lbw by Leach. Rizwan then resumed his battle with Carse, eventually falling to him for the third innings in a row after England got the ball to reverse swing. Whether they can reverse the course of this Test may depend on keeping Sajid from top billing on day four.

Big Ugarte upgrade: Man Utd in talks to sign "exceptional" £100m+ star

When Manchester United officially confirmed that Ruben Amorim would be their new head coach to replace Erik ten Hag last year, there was plenty of optimism.

The Portuguese head coach had just won the league title with Sporting and arrived at Old Trafford as an exciting young manager with a new system for fans to get used to.

His arrival also prompted supporters to wonder whether or not he would look to reunite with prolific centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres to bolster the club’s options at the top end of the pitch.

Manchester United did, reportedly, make contact with Sporting over a potential deal to sign the Swedish forward earlier this summer, only for him to end up at Arsenal.

Whilst the Red Devils were unable to reunite Amorim with Gyokeres this summer, the Portuguese head coach has already had the chance to work with one of his former Sporting stars in Manuel Ugarte.

United signed the Uruguay international from Paris Saint-Germain for an initial fee of £42m last summer, before Amorim arrived, and he has yet to prove his worth.

Why Man United may need to replace Manuel Ugarte

The Red Devils may need to find a replacement for Ugarte before the end of the summer transfer window because he has not proven himself to be a reliable option in the middle of the park.

He is billed as a midfield destroyer who sweeps up in front of the defence. However, he only won 53% of his duels in the Premier League and was dribbled past 1.3 times per game in the division; only Bruno Fernandes (1.4) was dribbled past more per match on average.

This shows that Ugarte did not provide a very effective screen in front of the defence in the top-flight last season, as opposition players found too much joy in running past him, exposing the backline.

On top of that, the 24-year-old defensive midfielder does not offer quality in possession to make up for when his defensive skills are not enough in the middle of the park, as he does not carry an offensive or progressive threat on the ball.

As you can see in the table above, Ugarte was among the worst performers in the Premier League in midfield when it came to progressing play through passes and carries, or creating and scoring goals.

These statistics suggest that the former Sporting star is not a reliable operator for Amorim because he is suspect defensively and in possession.

United could find a big upgrade on Ugarte, though, as they are reportedly interested in signing another central midfielder from one of their Premier League rivals.

Man Utd in talks with midfield star's agents

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are in ongoing talks with the agents of Brighton & Hove Albion defensive midfielder Carlos Baleba.

However, he adds that a deal is complicated and that there is no progress being made at the moment, which does not suggest that a transfer is likely to happen any time soon.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the reporter said: “Man United still maintain contacts with the agents of Carlos Baleba, contacts are still ongoing, but at the moment, they still believe that the deal is really complicated, is really difficult, so at the moment there is no concrete progress.

“Man United at the moment make their steps, started this week by making an approach to people close to the player, to try to understand the situation, maintain the contacts with the agents of the player, so don’t leave the conversation immediately.”

GIVEMESPORT adds that Brighton will be looking for a fee in the region of the £115m that they raked in from Chelsea for Moises Caicedo in order to let go of Baleba.

This suggests that Manchester United may need to splash out a fee in excess of £100m, breaking their transfer record, to snap the Cameroon international up this summer.

Why Man Utd should sign Carlos Baleba

The Red Devils should be pushing to get a deal over the line for Baleba, if they can avoid the huge fee that it may take, because he would arrive as a big upgrade on Ugarte.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler shakes hands with CarlosBaleba

He is already a proven Premier League performer, thanks to his time with Brighton, and would offer more to the team in the middle of the park, as both a defender and a progressive operator in possession.

Baleba won 55% of his duels and was only dribbled past 0.9 times per game in the top-flight last season, which immediately suggests that the left-footed enforcer would be more reliable off the ball in comparison to Ugarte as opposition players find it harder to get the better of him.

The clip above also shows that the Brighton star has more in his arsenal than just defensive qualities. He scored three goals and created three ‘big chances’ in the top-flight, whilst also providing progressive play in build-up.

As you can see in the table above, the Manchester United target outperformed Ugarte in a host of attacking and possession-based metrics in the middle of the park in the Premier League.

These statistics suggest that Baleba, who was hailed as “exceptional” by U23 scout Antonio Mango, would come in as a big upgrade on the United flop because of his ability to influence the game in possession, as well as out of out.

Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba

That is alongside also having the potential to be an upgrade on him from a defensive perspective, given that attacking players find it harder to dribble past him or win duels against the 21-year-old titan.

Therefore, signing Baleba would improve Manchester United’s team because he would offer more to the side, as a proven Premier League performer, in all phases of the game than Ugarte currently does.
