Manchester City chiefs are looking to open talks to discuss a new-look contract for one of their first-team favourites, according to a fresh report that has emerged.

In recent months, Bernardo Silva and Kyle Walker have both committed to their futures by putting pen to paper on fresh deals, and the club are going to have to decide what they are doing about another player who will soon be out of contract.

The Sky Blues have Scott Carson approaching the expiration of his terms at the end of the season (Man City contracts), so once his situation has been sorted, Pep Guardiola will be able to turn his attention towards some of his more regular features.

It was enough to get the goal, 1-0, and before that, we had a big chance for Rasmus Hojlund. We have many senior players, we should all stand up and take responsibility for this."

Even with the central midfielders at Goodison performing valiantly at this moment in time, Sean Dyche could well be eyeing up young Brazilian sensation Gabriel Moscardo as another holding midfield option, with a whole host of clubs queuing up to tussle for the 18-year-old's services alongside the Blues.

The current Corinthians man is likely to be subject to manic interest from a plethora of suitors this coming January, the teenager linked with moves to Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Fulham and more, according to TEAMTalk.

As the report noted, Everton are also in pursuit of the Brazil U23 international, stating that the Toffees are monitoring the youngster's progress amid the desire to raid South America for some 'clever signings' in the New Year.

Over the last year for his Brazilian employers, Moscardo has averaged 3.08 tackles per 90 minutes whilst also carrying out further defensive work 2.76 blocks per match to shore up his side as an anchor-like figure, via FBRef.

It's his forays forward however that draw the most direct comparisons to Rice, the former Hammers man is well-known for his assuredness to travel with the ball in tight areas coming out from the back – completing an average of 2.22 progressive carries per match over the last year for both West Ham and the Gunners.

The 18-year-old is so highly thought of as his statistics in the same area mirror the formidable Arsenal man, albeit Moscardo is playing in his native Brazil and not in the intense Premier League.

He could however be ready for a top-flight move imminently if he continues to excel with Corinthians, averaging 1.80 successful take-ons each game over the last 365 days for the South American giants, whilst coming in at a lesser but still impressive 1.69 progressive carries compared to his experienced counterpart.

It looks ever more likely that Moscardo will be upping and leaving his native Brazil in January – and with potential added investment from 777 Partners – Everton will hope they can shock everyone in landing the young midfielder ahead of major interest from top clubs.

A new Tottenham Hotspur partnership may be brewing under Ange Postecoglou, one that could even match the deadly duos of James Maddison/Son Heung-min and Micky van de Ven/Cristian Romero.

Pretty much every member of the first team has played a major role in Spurs' climb to the top of the table. Meanwhile, the defensive partnership of Romero and van de Ven has been pivotal. The latter has just joined Spurs from Wolfsburg but already looks like he's been donning Lilywhite for far longer. Speaking on his YouTube channel this week, TNT Sports pundit Rio Ferdinand praised the pair for what has been an excellent start to this new season.

“Romero and Micky van de Ven are arguably the best pairing at the moment in central defence in the Premier League on form. They’ve been immense," said Ferdinand on van de Ven and Romero.

“This Micky van de Ven, bro, he is the real deal. He’s the real deal. I saw his debut the other day for Holland. I’ve seen him right up close twice this season. And he looks supremely comfortable for a young centre-back that’s come into a new league. So watch this space for this kid.”

It would seem Postecoglou is spoiled for choice when it comes to understandings all over the park, but journalist Dean Jones believes a new partnership could emerge.

Bentancur and Bissouma could form best Spurs partnership

Uruguay midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur returned from his long-term injury against Crystal Palace in what was a big, big boost for Spurs. Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have been thriving as part of Postecoglou's new-look, dual midfield pivot, but Jones believes both Bentancur and Bissouma may thrive together for Spurs.

“I think when you look at van de Ven and Romero, Tottenham already have an argument to say that they've got the best defensive pairing in the league," said Jones to GiveMeSport.

"If Bentancur and Bissouma can keep going this season across the entire campaign, I think they can put up a fight and say they’ve got one of the best midfield partnerships around as well. This was a situation we didn't expect to see. Still, even if we throw Pape Matar Sarr into this conversation, the revival and the way that these guys have been able to progress under Postecoglou has been superb. The ceiling has just been lifted.”
