Leeds fans worried after misleading Phil Hay tweet

[ad_pod ]

Leeds United fans on Twitter were momentarily worried after Phil Hay posted a misleading tweet about Kalvin Phillips.

A fan asked whether or not the midfielder would be travelling to Australia for the club’s pre-season tour to which the journalist simply replied: “Phillips is due to go.”

Without context, it looked as if Hay was confirming the midfielder was on his way out of Elland Road as fans have been worried about his potential departure for weeks.

On Friday, Tottenham were linked with a move for the Leeds man.

The youngster has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs during this transfer window as Aston Villa, Wolves and Norwich have all shown an interest in him.

The former Yorkshire Evening Post writer’s tweet was in fact a positive update on Phillips, but that didn’t stop some fans worrying.

Rangers fans are delighted Kyle Lafferty is on his way out of Ibrox

[ad_pod ]

Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty looks to have played his last game for the club after Thursday reports he is due to return to Glasgow to discuss the terms of his departure from Ibrox.

Clyde 1 reckon that he has already been told by manager Steven Gerrard he will play no part next season and has been instructed to find a new club.

The player is due to join up with the Northern Ireland squad for matches next month but will first hold talks with his advisers and the club to find a way forward, according to the report.

Watch the video below to find out which derbies the Pl>ymaker squad have picked as the most entertaining, fierce and passionate in the world…

Lafferty joined from Hearts last summer on a two-year deal as competition for Alfredo Morelos, although it quickly became apparent he was not good enough to make the step up and impress during his second spell at Ibrox.

Scoring just five goals for Rangers across the season, he was barely used after the January transfer window allowed Gerrard the opportunity to bring in Jermain Defoe.

Fans won’t exactly be disappointed to see him go, with many feeling like he should never have been signed in the first place.

Rangers will need better recruitment this summer as they look to end years of trophy drought and pick up major honours next term.

Eddie Howe hints that he is expecting more from Diego Rico at Bournemouth

[ad_pod ]

Bournemouth’s summer has got off to a flyer, with the Cherries securing Bristol City’s Lloyd Kelly for £13m, furthering their obvious intentions to build for the future. The 20-year-old becomes the Vitality Stadium outfit’s sixth signing in the past three windows and, in the aftermath of Kelly’s arrival, Eddie Howe has summed up how he thinks each has gotten on.

While there was praise for the Spaniard’s fellow summer arrivals – Jefferson Lerma and David Brooks – Diego Rico clearly hasn’t made the desired impact on the south coast.

What did Howe say?

Well, speaking to Bournemouth’s media this week, the 41-year-old said:

“The three players we signed in the summer I think did really well throughout the season, so Jefferson and David Brooks became regulars in the team, Diego hasn’t instantly played as many games as he’d like but we still believe that he could be a big player for the future.”

Dire Diego

As Howe says, Brooks, 21, and Lerma, 24, have been instant successes at Bournemouth, although 26-year-old Rico is seen as ‘one for the future’ – this should be concerning for the former Leganes man, particularly considering the impression Tyrone Mings has made on loan at Aston Villa this season.

How much money could you make busking for a week as a freestyle footballer? Find out in the video below…

With the gigantic Mings now returning, it could soon be a truly uphill climb for Rico to secure a spot in the first team, particularly if he doesn’t hit the ground running upon his eventual return from an ankle injury suffered in early April.

At a club that places so much importance on bringing in young talent that will shape the future of the club, time is surely running out for Rico to make an impression before another youthful face steps in to succeed Charlie Daniels the way he was meant to when Bournemouth signed him just under a year ago.

Rangers fans adore McGregor’s interview after he wins John Greig award

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been sharing their views on the club’s award ceremony, which took place on Sunday night.

Rangers got back to form last week with two clinical and professional performances.

After the Old Firm heartbreak, the Gers responded with a 3-0 domination of Hearts at Ibrox before a trip to Motherwell, where a Scott Arfield hat trick was enough for all three points again.

Following Sunday’s game, the players attended the club’s yearly award ceremony, the results of which you can find here.

Unsurprisingly, Alfredo Morelos swept up top goalscorer, player of the year and players’ player of the year, while Ryan Kent won young player of the campaign and Ryan Jack claimed goal of the season with his effort in the Old Firm.

Meanwhile, fan favourite Allan McGregor was handed the John Greig Achievement Award, an extremely prestigious achievement.

As a player and manager, Greig racked up five league titles, eight Scottish Cups and seven Scottish League Cups at Ibrox.

The club spoke to McGregor after he collected the award, and he appeared to be stumbling over his words as he expressed his delight.

Fans are heaping praise both on his clear passion for the club and the award, as well as the fact that he seems to have had a little bit too much fun at the ceremony.

Liverpool: Klopp must back Divock Origi to produce for the Reds

Liverpool are in a bit of a sticky position in regards to their fearsome front-three.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have been nothing short of sensational over the past two seasons as a collective yet recently, if one of them delivers a below-par performance, the Reds have found themselves in a bit of trouble.

Goalless draws against Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Everton in the past five weeks have illustrated that a lack of creativity in Jurgen Klopp’s side is starting to have an impact this season.

Despite Liverpool currently leading the Premier League by two points from Manchester City, fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the coming weeks will need to see them find and then stick to a decisive back-up plan in order to achieve title glory.

No matter what tactics Klopp uses, it must include one player in particular; Divock Origi. Since joining the club for a reported fee of £10m from Lille in 2014 (via the BBC), the Belgian has struggled to make his mark for Liverpool and has been loaned out on two occasions.

After spending the 2017/18 campaign with Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg, Origi returned to Anfield in the summer yet he had to wait until December to make his first Premier League appearance of the campaign. After being subbed on with just six minutes left to play against arch-rivals Everton, the forward scored a dramatic last-minute winner to show Klopp just what he had been missing. In the following game against Burnley, he made his first start and impressed once again, providing an assist in a 3-1 victory at Turf Moor.

However, since these two fixtures, Origi has been used sporadically by his German manager in a number of different positions which has done little to help with his development as a player. It is clear that the forward possesses great ability and can offer the Reds a different threat than Firmino in a similar way that Gabriel Jesus does to Aguero at City.

Therefore, if he is going to be used as a substitute for the remainder of the campaign, he must come on his natural position as a striker in order for Klopp to get the best out of him. Although Origi’s time at Anfield has been a frustrating one to date, it could still be remembered for all the right reasons if he is given a chance to help his side win their first league title in 29 years in May.

What do you think Liverpool fans? Should Klopp stick by Origi and use him more towards the end of this season? Or is it time to cut ties with the Belgian? Get in touch below.

Harry Wilson should consider his Liverpool future, here’s why…

Another loan spell is surely beckoning Harry Wilson at the beginning of next season as the promising Welshman looks to barge his way into a crowded and competitive Liverpool team.

It has been an extremely positive first experience in senior football for Wilson, who has been the standout player in Frank Lampard’s promotion hopeful Derby County side, scoring 12 goals in all competitions.

Indeed, the 21-year-old has evidently outgrown the Championship and his return to Derby, or any other club in the competition for that matter, seems unlikely.

Rather, according to goal.com, Jurgen Klopp prefers the option to find him a club in the Premier League to continue his development, readying him for the future challenges at Anfield.

But who with?

Brendan Rodgers; Leicester City is one of the reported likely locations.

Rodgers, who was reportedly interested in taking the player to Celtic last term, missed out because Klopp felt he had too little faith youngsters (as per goal.com)

However, now with the financial clout of the former Premier League winners, there is every chance the Foxes boss could come bounding back with a permanent offer. And we think the move makes perfect sense.

Here are two reasons why…

Youth and development

Contrary to Klopp’s belief, Rodgers will be of immense benefit to Leicester’s fledgeling players.

After all, this is where it all started for the former Chelsea youth coach – developing talent.

For example, though he cannot claim the introduction of Kieran Tierney, he has overseen the full-backs progress into one of Scotland’s most promising talents. The same could be said for Raheem Sterling. Rodgers gave him his chance at Liverpool and look at him now: one of the best players in the Premier League.

Leicester have an impressive roster of young, up and coming talent, including the likes of Demarai Gray, Harvey Barnes and Ben Chilwell, and Harry Wilson should want to join their ranks next season.

No budging current starters

It is unlikely that Wilson will get anywhere near the current Liverpool team for some time, despite how well he has performed.

There is too much quality in the forward positions, where he naturally operates, with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all irreplaceable.

Furthermore, the midfield, a region he has occupied more regularly for Lampard, may be relatively weak at Liverpool, but the emergence of Fabinho as a serious contender has considerably limited the available spots, as Milner and Henderson are no longer needed to cover.

You would also imagine that Klopp will want to reinforce his midfield with some serious, world-class talent this summer.

Disgruntled Real Madrid maestro Isco, for example, is one of the major targets (as per Tuttosport).

An easy choice as far as we are concerned.

Celtic: Oliver Burke can’t be another John McGinn

Changes are happening at Parkhead next season, that much is obvious.

However, why change with something which isn’t broken? Indeed, that’s a mentality which Neil Lennon and those planning upstairs should keep in mind while shaping Celtic’s team. They already have some bright talents capable of taking it up a notch.

Among those blooming talents is star loanee Oliver Burke. After arriving at the winter transfer window, the 21-year-old’s taken Celtic Park by storm and looks to be the kind of player many thought he’d turn into upon leaving Nottingham Forest for RB Leipzig in 2017. In just nine appearances, he’s scored four goals and glittered up their attack with his presence, looking a cut above pretty much everyone else in Scotland.

However, with his tenure set to end next summer, the Bhoys have a decision to make.

According to reports from the Birmingham Mail, Celtic are hopeful of signing him on a permanent basis from the Baggies in the summer. Allegedly after Darren Moore’s departure, Burke’s unsure about returning to West Brom and is rallying for the move north, in what could be a happy marriage.

However, the Hoops will need to shell out a decent fee for his services. Indeed, having failed to splash the cash on John McGinn over the summer, Peter Lawwell and those behind the scenes have to prove they can move on in the transfer market.

It might be costly, but one which almost guarantees big rewards. Burke’s already settled into Celtic Park really well in the last few months, becoming popular with fans while also forming nice chemistry with his attackers. He’s comfortable on the ball, can run past defenders and create chances from far afar.

Burke compliments James Forrest as well as new sensation Odsonne Edouard really nicely in the final third. A creative, sparkling figure who can create and score goals at will, Burke seems primed to get even better and Celtic should definitely want him at his best.
