Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to news that Son Heung-min must shave hair for military service

Tottenham Hotspur striker Son Heung-min must shave his hair for part of his military service in South Korea, that is according to a report from The Athletic via @Daily_Hotspur.

It was recently announced that the 27-year-old would return to his homeland this month to carry out a mandatory four-month period of service, which must be completed before the age of 28 (BBC Sport).

The Spurs front man was due to complete this out in the summer, but due to ongoing events causing football in England to be suspended indefinitely (Sky Sports), the club have released him early to get it out of the way.

Mandatory military service in South Korea is usually for a period of 21 months, however Son was exempt from the full amount having helped his country win the 2018 Asian Games (BBC Sport).

Loads of Spurs fans have been reacting to the report that he will be shaving his full head of hair, here are some of the best replies…

Spurs fans react to reports of Gerson interest

Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted to reports that the club are interested in signing Gerson from Flamengo.

Globo Esporte claims that the club have made an enquiry for the midfielder as they attempt to bring in reinforcements at the turn of the year.

The big fat Tottenham quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Spurs?

The Brazilian club are said to want €30m (£25.7m) to allow the star to leave.

Of course, Spurs are trying to do a deal for Bruno Fernandes, per Football FanCast sources, and are also closing in on the signing of Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica.

And a section of fans simply think that the club are targeting players with similar names this month!

The 22-year-old has been capped 10 times by Brazil’s U20 team and was only signed by the club from Roma in the summer.

He has made a total of 36 appearances for the club but some supporters simply don’t know who he is.

Indeed, many have harkened back to a meme that was born when Danny Rose claimed he didn’t want the club signing players that he had “to Google”.

It remains to be seen if Jose Mourinho will get his required reinforcements this month.

Moussa Sissoko, of course, is out until April, as is star striker Harry Kane.

Meanwhile, Spurs fans have hammered one man for his display against Liverpool.

Queens Park Rangers must make January approach for Browne

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, West Ham United attacker Marcus Browne is a loan target for a number of Championship clubs, and Queens Park Rangers should ensure that they are in the hunt for the Englishman.

What’s the word, then?

Browne is currently on loan at Oxford United, and has been in excellent form for the League One outfit during the first half of the 2018-19 campaign.

Indeed, the 21-year-old has scored seven times and registered four assists in 23 appearances for Karl Robinson’s side in all competitions this term.

Who are the best away fans in the Championship? Playmaker FC’s Thogden gives his top 10 in the video below…

Oxford want to keep Browne for the remainder of the season, but according to The Sun, West Ham are considering cutting the loan short in January before sending him to a Championship club for the remainder of the campaign.

West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, Stoke City, Derby County and Bristol City have all been credited with an interest.

However, QPR should ensure that they are in the hunt for a player who is capable of starring in the second tier of English football.

What is Browne’s history?

Browne belongs to West Ham, coming through the youth system with the Hammers before making his first-team debut in August 2016.

The attacker has not been seen in a West Ham shirt since debuting in the Europa League, but seems to be getting some valuable first-team action at Oxford.

Former Hammers defender Rio Ferdinand recently drew attention to Browne’s form, and the pair are regularly seen in contact on social media.

Browne, who has scored 11 times in 45 games for West Ham’s Under-23 side, will certainly feel that he can make the step into the Championship.

And QPR, who are only five points off the playoff positions in the second tier, should make a strong play for the versatile attacker at the start of 2019.

Revealed: 83% of Sunderland fans want Mbakogu signed after Wyke injury

Loads of Sunderland fans have been debating possible free agent signings after the injury to Charlie Wyke, and a whopping 83 per cent of fans think they should try to sign Jerry Mbakogu.

Sunderland had their first major setback of the season last weekend, as their slow starts finally came back to haunt them with a defeat at Burton Albion.

The result was made even worse by an injury to Wyke, who is now expected to 25-year-old goalkeeper.

Plenty of free agent strikers’ names have been tossed about, with veterans like Victor Anichebe, Darren Bent and Gabby Agbonlahor still looking for a place to call home.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”298768″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch The FFC Accy Show We”]

The Black Cats are building a fresh new squad though, so targeting an ageing, lazy striker would be a huge mistake.

A move for Mbakogu makes perfect sense, as the 25 year-old free agent is desperate for a move to Leeds.

Once dubbed ‘the next Drogba’ by his agent, Mbakogu scored 28 times in 92 league games for Italian side Carpi, and 83 per cent of fans think Jack Ross should make him an offer he can’t refuse.

In Focus: Man United should think twice about signing an expensive Milinkovic-Savic

According to reports in Italian media outlet Il Messaggero, via Sport Witness, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes that Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be the ideal replacement for Marouane Fellaini if the Belgian leaves Old Trafford.

What’s the word, then?

Well, Il Masseggero, via Sport Witness, say that a Red Devils scout watched the 22-year-old midfielder in action in his side’s Serie A match against Sampdoria on Sunday, and he certainly would have been impressed with what he saw as the Serbia international scored the equaliser, before his driving run and cut-back eventually fell to Felipe Caicedo to net the winner in a 2-1 victory.

Il Masseggero, via Sport Witness, adds that Lazio aren’t willing to sell the 6ft 4in player on the cheap though, and could demand around €100m (approximately £88.4m right now) if they are to sell the midfielder.

The report adds that while a deal is unlikely in January, the Serie A outfit could struggle to hold on to one of their key players next summer.

How has Milinkovic-Savic done this season?

The Spanish-born player has been a regular in the Lazio side and has chipped in with five goals and a further two assists in 18 appearances in all competitions.

While the majority of his outings have come in a central midfield spot, the 22-year-old has also played in a more attacking central role while he even played as a No 10 in the Supercoppa Italiana final against Juventus back in August.

Would he be a good Fellaini replacement?

He certainly would be.

The Serbia international has proven that he is versatile and can make a big impact at both ends of the pitch – much like the big Belgian – while the fact that he stands at 6ft 4in tall shows he has the strength and physicality to be a success in the often robust Premier League.

According to Squawka, Milinkovic-Savic has made 14 interceptions and 12 clearances in 13 Serie A appearances this season, while he has shown his ability in the air by winning 30 aerial duels and his skill on the ball by successfully completing 24 of the 41 take-ons he has attempted.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, there is little doubt that the 22-year-old could be the perfect Fellaini replacement, but his high price tag could be a problem for Manchester United given that he hasn’t actually achieved too much in his career so far.

Three reasons Joe Hart wouldn’t be an upgrade on what West Ham already have

According to reports in The Sun, West Ham United are said to be interested in signing out-of-favour Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart on loan this summer.

With both Adrian and Darren Randolph making mistakes last season that saw them dropped from the starting line-up, Irons manager Slaven Bilic is obviously looking to bring in a new stopper – as long as they are an improvement on what he currently has.

The 30-year-old is surplus to requirements under City manager Pep Guardiola and spent last term on loan at Serie A outfit Torino, although he has already announced that he won’t be moving to the Italian outfit on a permanent deal.

With the 2018 World Cup just a year away, Hart will know that he needs to find a new club this summer in order to be playing first team football next term to ensure that he is still Gareth Southgate’s first choice keeper, but the Hammers certainly need to be wary of any deal.

Here are three reasons Hart wouldn’t be an upgrade on Adrian and Randolph…

Performances

While both Adrian and Darren Randolph would have come under criticism last season for high-profile errors, Hart has also been under scrutiny for the mistakes he has made over the course of the last couple of years.

The 30-year-old was crucified after he failed to make what looked like a routine save for England against Iceland at Euro 2016 – which resulted in a goal – while he was far from impressive for Torino after conceding 62 goals in 36 league appearances, or for the Three Lions against Scotland last weekend.

We all know that Hart can make great saves when needed, but so can the current Irons duo.

Concentration

If Bilic is to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer, he will want one that he knows is going to be an upgrade on Adrian and Randolph and can make a difference.

Hart’s concentration levels will certainly worry him in that respect, as the 30-year-old seems prone to errors when he has time to think about making a save – like against Iceland.

The fact that he was beaten twice from free-kicks by the same player in just a matter of minutes against Scotland last weekend only emphasises this point.

The future

While there is no doubt that Hart has shown what a class goalkeeper he is during his career, the fact that he is the same age as both Adrian and Randolph means a deal makes little sense as there seems to be few signs that he will improve.

If West Ham had have brought in someone like Jordan Pickford who is young and has the potential to improve then it may be a different story, but it’s hard to argue that Hart would be an upgrade on the two goalkeepers West Ham already have right now.

The festive period will teach us a lot about Guardiola’s managerial ability

After a blistering start to the season with 10 straight wins in all competitions, easing past teams with a superb style of football, Pep Guardiola is beginning to get the feel of why the Premier League is regarded as the most difficult league in the world.

Still suffering from the hang over of losing 3-1 to  Chelsea, the Catalan then suffered yet another loss at the hands of a Leicester City side that had not won a League game in five..

Even without the services of key players like Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho, City were expected to get a result given the superiority in quality between both sides. But Jamie Vardy had other ideas, scoring a hat-trick to condemn the Etihad giants to a disappointing 4-2 defeat. Up until the two late goals, Pep was heading towards his worst defeat of his managerial career.

The Spanish boss surely has a lot of thinking to do or risk enduring the worst league season of his career. With 15 games played, Claudio Bravo has more often than not been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The Chilean has kept just one clean sheet in his last 13 league outings.

But the blame can’t all go to the ex-Barcelona stopper as the four in front of him have not helped matters. Nicholas Otamendi was pushed off the ball far too easily by Diego Costa for Chelsea’s equaliser two weekends ago, while Alexandar Kolarov has found it difficult adapting to an unfamiliar centre-back role.

Out of the side mostly due to injuries, what the City fans would give for the return of Vincent Kompany. His presence has surely been missed throughout the period that he has been out. And what about John Stones? We all know he is an incredible footballer, but so often GE reminds us of the old David Luiz.

He is increasingly becoming prone to errors, costing his team with his lack of concentration and over-confident style of play, always trying to be too clever. At fault for Vardy’s third, the ex-Everton player has directly cost his team on five occasionS leading to goalS – the most by any defender in the division this season.

Guardiola  has won only three league games since his side’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham at White Hart Lane. City are currently short of confidence at the moment and are not helped by the current double suspension of star striker Sergio Aguero and midfield enforcer Fernandinho.

Pep has failed to win the league title just once in his last seven years as a manager but with damaging defeats in the last two games, coupled with difficult festive games against Arsenal and Liverpool coming up, once could become twice unless he addresses the issues surrounding his team’s form sooner rather than later.

Five Man United stars who could be set for a last-minute exit

We may only be five days away from the official closing of the summer transfer window but there’s still plenty of business to be done in the Premier League. Chelsea appear hell-bent on acquiring Everton’s John Stones and Juventus star Paul Pogba, for example, whilst Arsenal fans are desperate for Arsene Wenger to sign a new striker.

Of course, we all prefer the glamour of a multi-million new arrival of the Memphis Depay variety but a number of Premier League managers will be looking to offload some of their deadwood too before the summer window slams shut at 6pm on September 1st.

So with that in mind, Football Fancast have decided to take a look at FIVE Manchester United stars who might be set for a last-minute exit from Old Trafford.

Will Louis van Gaal be issuing some of these FIVE their marching orders before the summer window closes next Tuesday?

DAVID DE GEA

At the end of last season, David De Gea’s move to Real Madrid seemed set in stone. But three games into the new Premier League campaign and he’s still a Manchester United player – albeit one barred from first team action by Louis van Gaal.

The concern is that the Red Devils may not have very long at all to find a replacement for their PFA Player of the Year nominee, with the Spaniard by no means the only goalie expected to head out of Old Trafford before September 1st – more on that later.

But with just a year remaining on his contract, United don’t have much of a choice if the right offer comes along. And according to reports from The Daily Mail this morning, Real Madrid are about to make a final take-it-or-leave-it £33million bid.

It’s likely the Red Devils will accept. After all, that sum would make De Gea the most expensive goalkeeper of all time – not bad considering United have already kept two Premier League clean sheets without him this season.

VICTOR VALDES

Another supremely talented Spanish goalkeeper heading out of the Old Trafford exit door. The Red Devils snapped up Victor Valdes on a free transfer only last January but he’s already fallen afoul of Louis van Gaal, who revealed in July his intentions to sell the former Barcelona No.1 after refusing to play for the U21 squad.

As a consequence, the 33 year-old has been a regular figure in the Old Trafford stands this season, often sitting alongside David De Gea and Andreas Lindegaard.

But it appears Valdes has finally been offered an escape route from his torrid time at Carrington; according to The Guardian, he’s set to join Besiktas on a free transfer.

JESSE LINGARD

Many suspect a cameo role for Jesse Lingard at Manchester United this season after impressing for the England U21s at the European Championship and for the Red Devils during their pre-season tour of the USA.

That still might be the case; after all, Bristol City’s rumoured £2.5million bid for the winger-forward earlier this month appeared to fall on deaf ears at Carrington and he signed a contract extension until 2018 just a matter of months ago.

But Lingard is yet to make it onto a United bench this season and there are plenty more clubs willing to take the 22 year-old off the Red Devils’ hands. Newcastle boss Steve McClaren is apparently interested, for example, having been impressed with his performances on loan at Derby County last season.

Resultantly, a loan move for the season is certainly plausible – especially considering United already have more than enough youth in the attacking third through Adnan Januzaj and £30million signing Memphis Depay.

JAVIER HERNANDEZ

It seemed Manchester United’s abundant lack of striking options would allow Javier Hernandez a stay of execution at Old Trafford until his contract expired next summer, with Louis van Gaal hinting in the off-season that the Mexico international would be given another chance in the United squad following his occasionally spectacular if rather inconsistent loan spell at Real Madrid last season.

That was until yesterday evening and a frankly horrendous performance against FC Brugge in the Champions League play-off. Chicarito not only missed a five-yard sitter but also slipped when trying to take a penalty and ultimately missed, leading to a rather telling glance between van Gaal and assistant Ryan Giggs.

It seems the 26 year-old is still at Old Trafford due to necessity rather than any fondness on the Iron Tulip’s part, and last night’s performance may have just convinced him that it’s time to sell.

Hernandez has plenty of admirers from the Premier League and yonder. Tottenham and West Ham have both been linked with him throughout the summer and are still searching for added striking options, so they could launch late bids.

Leaving only Wayne Rooney and James Wilson behind, however, Little Pea’s departure may depend on United signing another striker first.

JONNY EVANS

Manchester United may be short of top quality at centre-half but that doesn’t appear to have improved Jonny Evans’ chances of prolonging his Old Trafford stay past the end of the transfer window.

Indeed, the Northern Ireland international managed just 14 Premier League appearances under Louis van Gaal last season – his second-worst campaign haul since becoming a United regular in 2008 – and he’s now seemingly at the bottom of a pecking order that includes Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind.

Evans’ contract entering its final twelve months only provides further incentive for van Gaal to scrap the 27 year-old and there are already quite a few interested parties.

Everton are known to be considering a move for the 6 foot 2 centre-half but speculation this morning suggests West Bromwich Albion has become a likelier destination. A ballpark figure of £10million has been mooted.
