It felt like a long journey for Wright.”Their flight from Manchester pulled in just behind mine from Miami, and my car didn’t turn up – so it was nice of the ‘Barmy Army’ to drop me off … and give me a good grilling on the way here of what they weren’t happy with in the winter,” he said.”They probably asked more questions than here today actually. It was a long 45-minute drive. They were quite tough, but they were good … and happy to find out what Mitchell Johnson is like to face. We need to be putting smiles back on their faces.”To be fair to Wright, he would only have been able to answer about what happened in the Twenty20s at the end of the painful trip around Australia as he was not involved in the other two formats, but the 3-0 drubbing was enough to leave Wright feeling as hurt as those involved elsewhere.His frustration was compounded by having impressed in the Big Bash League but then being unable to transfer that into the matches in Hobart, Melbourne and Sydney where he made 9, 0 and 8. However, the selectors have shown faith for the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh and, because of the emphasis on the short format, he also has a chance in the three ODIs against West Indies in Antigua.”I think that was the most frustrating for me, going into that Australia series,” he said. “I’d watched the whole way through and seen how disappointingly we’d played, and I felt in great nick from the Big Bash going into it and had played well against all the bowlers I was going to face for Australia.”To then not do it was the most frustrated I’ve probably been in my career. It was so annoying and disappointing to come away from that performing badly … I’ve got to put that right.”Much has been made within the England camp of looking forward, not back, but lessons will have to be learned about what happened in Australia. It was a tour that cost Andy Flower and Kevin Pietersen their jobs and also saw Graeme Swann retire.”You walk away as a player and say ‘why didn’t you take those moments?’ when you should have won games,” Wright said. “I’ve been asking [myself] that over the last three weeks since I left Australia. Sometimes you can’t put your finger on it, and that’s the hardest thing as a cricketer.”

Mitchell Johnson, the Player of the Series, has joined the ranks of Australia’s greatest bowlers by terrifying England’s batsmen in a way not seen for many a year, his captain Michael Clarke has said. Summing up Johnson’s series, in which he claimed 37 wickets at 13.97 while also clattering handy runs, Clarke declared the left-armer’s displays as good as any by the likes of Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne, Jason Gillespie or Brett Lee, all former team-mates of the captain.Not even required for the earlier five-Test bout in England, Johnson put his mark on the series as early as day two in Brisbane when he was the catalyst for the collapse of the visitors’ first innings. He continued to intervene at pivotal times throughout, creating a sense of anticipation every time he took the ball arguably unseen in Australia since Warne’s most prolific days. Clarke paid warm tribute.”Man of the Series, who would have thought, except me and probably Mitch?” Clarke said. “He’s been an amazing bowler for a long time. He’s bowled with a lot of aggression. To be able to bowl at that pace is one thing; to be able to do every single innings and back it up is an amazing achievement.”Mitch has bowled a couple of spells through this series that are without doubt as good a spell as I’ve ever seen in my career. To have the attitude and hunger to say ‘no I’m not giving up, I’m going to come back’ is a credit to him.”Johnson’s first spell of the series at the Gabba had been nervous, spraying numerous wides before he was fortified by the chance to bowl at Jonathan Trott, who he had troubled in ODIs in England earlier in the year. The wicket of Trott, who was to go home due to a stress-related illness after Brisbane, settled Johnson into a rhythm he did not lose all summer, often slinging down deliveries comfortably faster than 150kph. Like Michael said, that was something we spoke about at Allan Border field. That definitely set the tone throughout this whole series.”Johnson’s enjoyment of this summer has been enhanced by the development of a close relationship among all the bowlers, their group embracing tightly when the final wicket fell. “It was just a great feeling for the bowling unit to get through five Test matches, ” Johnson said. “We’ve had the experience, guys like Peter Siddle have played 50 Test matches now and Ryan Harris has got through five Test matches bowling on one leg apparently. He’s done exceptionally well, and Nathan Lyon, what he did today and in the last Test match, so I think as a bowling unit we really set the tone in that first Test and stuck with it.”We just felt really good out there throughout this whole Test series. The support staff being able to get us through, I’m absolutely exhausted now, it’s a huge relief to get through the Test series but we all feel confident that we can play back-to-back cricket, we’ve shown that. We can keep the accuracy up and keep working really well as a unit. We’d like to play a lot more cricket together I’m sure.”

Sohag Gazi, the Bangladesh offspinner, admitted he will miss spin bowling consultant Saqlain Mushtaq as he prepares for the home series against New Zealand.This will be Gazi’s second series without Saqlain, who has a 100-day per year contract with the BCB. Saqlain was with the team for the West Indies series in 2012 and the tour of Zimbabwe in May this year and although he had announced intentions of joining the team last month, the BCB’s cricket operations committee preferred to use his services for the World T20 at home next March.”I will definitely miss him,” Gazi told ESPNcricinfo. “He won’t be here all the time. I will try to use his advice. We have had a lot of discussions about bowling and specific field settings. He shared a lot of tips with me. His words are sometimes so inspiring that it brings out the best in a cricketer.”Gazi’s preparations have included a lot of bowling and chatting with senior spinners like Abdur Razzak before the first Test begins in Chittagong on Wednesday.”I have been talking to Shakib bhai and [Abdur Razzak] Raj bhai, about playing in Chittagong because I have never played a Test match here,” he said. “They have told me to stay positive. The spinners will look to bowl at a proper length, and be strict with our lines.”Gazi had benefited greatly from Saqlain’s presence last year in his debut Test series against West Indies. He spent hours with the former Pakistan offspinner ahead and during that Test and ODI series, learning about the length to bowl, flight variations and field settings, among other things. He ended up with 12 wickets in the two Tests and nine in the five ODIs.Faced with the challenge of bowling away from home in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe earlier this year, Gazi bowled far too quickly and was at times predictable, though he picked up 14 wickets in four Tests. He was not picked in the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, which served as a reminder that even good form in Test cricket doesn’t guarantee anything at this level.He was put on A team duty but the tour to England turned out to be a wretched one: Gazi claimed five wickets in seven matches at an average of 70, and a strike-rate of 75.60. His recent Dhaka Premier League performance, though, makes better reading with 10 wickets from six games for Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club.”The England tour was a tough one,” Gazi said. “I will have to bounce back from that. I am working very hard, doing a lot of spot-bowling. I have made some flight variations, so I am hoping to use it in the series.” Gazi will compete with Razzak for a place in the starting XI.

Grêmio: do Olímpico para a Arena Grêmio

Em 2012, o Grêmio deixou o lendário Estádio Olímpico, de tantas conquistas para o tricolor, e se mudou para a Arena Grêmio, atual casa do clube. No princípio, o clube sofreu com a falta de identificação entre a torcida e o novo estádio, além de polêmicas envolvendo a “avalanche” gremista. Hoje, depois de uma Copa do Brasil e uma Libertadores, a parceria está mais do que consolidada.

Arsenal: do Highbury para o Emirates Stadium

Entre os clubes que trocaram de casa, o Arsenal é o que encontra mais obstáculos para voltar a ser competitivo. Desde 2006 no Emirates, a 500 metros do antigo Highbury Park, no norte de Londres, o time mais popular da cidade ainda não comemorou título na nova arena.

E o principal motivo, é, justamente, a arquitetura financeira que a diretoria dos Gunners precisou conceber para fazer a mudança. Sem subsídio por parte do governo britânico, a holding que administra o Arsenal obteve empréstimo de 260 milhões de libras de um grupo de seis bancos, liderado pelo Banco Real da Escócia, e até hoje, paga pelo acordo.

Juventus: do Delle Alpi para o Juventus Stadium

A Juventus, por sua vez, foi obrigada a mudar de estádio. Construído para a Copa do Mundo de 1990, o Delle Alpi, antiga casa do clube, nunca despertou apreço dos torcedores “biancoreri”. A média por jogo no Campeonato Italiano de 2004/2005, por exemplo, mesmo com o título, foi de 26.883. A principal reclamação era a distância entre o campo e as arquibancadas, separados por cerca de 28 metros.

Na primeira temporada da nova casa, 2011/2012, na qual conquistou o Italiano, o clube triplicou sua arrecadação, de 11,6 milhões de euros, para 31, 8 milhões de euros. Naquela temporada, a média ultrapassou a marca dos 37 mil torcedores.

Manchester City:do Maine Road para o Etihad Stadium

Em 2008, ainda em os milhões do Abu Dhabi United Group, o Manchester City fez um acordo para utilizar o, na época, estádio Cidade de Manchester, construído para os Jogos das Comunidades Britânicas em 2002. O clube pagou apenas pela construção de bares e restaurantes, e paga de aluguel ao município apenas a metade dos ingressos do público que exceder a capacidade do antigo Maine Road, de 35 mil.

O acordo de naming rights com a companhia aérea Etihad, que começou em 2011, vale por 10 anos e rende 350 milhões ao City. O contrato também incluiu os atual centro de treinamento da equipe, que custou 100 milhões de libras.

Porto: do Estádio de Antas para o Estádio do Dragão

Os principais clubes portugueses trocaram de estádio a partir do dia 12 de outubro de 1999, quando Portugal foi anunciado sede da Eurocopa de 2004. O Benfica reconstruiu o Estádio da Luz, enquanto o Porto deixou o Estádio de Antas e levantou o Dragão, que foi palco da abertura da competição europeia de seleções.

Inaugurado em 2001, a nova casa do Porto marcou o início da era mais vitoriosa da história do clube. Desde aquele ano, o clube venceu 10 de 16 Ligas Portuguesas disputadas até então.

Espanyol: do Sarriá para Montjuïc; do Montjuïc para o Cornellà-El Prat

O Espanyol, de Barcelona, entre1923 e 1997, mandou seus jogos no estádio de Sarriá. Com problemas financeiros, no entanto, o clube se viu obrigado a vender o terreno de sua antiga casa e passou a mandar seus jogos no Estádio Olímpico Lluís Companys, renovado para as Olimpíadas de 1992, de capacidade para 56 mil torcedores.

Em 2009, buscando a voltar a ter um estádio próprio, o clube catalão inaugurou oRCDE Stadium, conhecido popularmente como Estádio Cornellà-El Prat por estar na divisa entre os municípios de Cornellà de Llobregat e El Prat de Llobregat. A nova casa do Espanyol pode abrigar 40.500 torcedores.

PERTO DO PEIXE?

O jornal português “Record” cravou a ida do lateral-esquerdo Jorge, ex-Flamengo e atualmente no Porto (POR), para o Santos. O jogador nunca teve grandes chances na equipe portuguesa e deve acertar com o Peixe por empréstimo até o final de dezembro deste ano.

Ainda segundo o “Record”, o Santos também teve a concorrência do Flamengo e o Rubro-Negro estava à frente pelo lateral, mas o time da Vila Belmiro conseguiu uma reviravolta e ficará com o reforço. Jorge foi um pedido do técnico Jorge Sampaoli após Orinho não ter agradado na lateral esquerda.

INTERESSE DA INTER

Esperando uma melhora em seu contrato salarial, o meia croata Ivan Rakitic ainda não renovou com seu atual clube Barcelona e está na mira da Inter de Milão. Os dirigentes italianos fazem uma oferta inicial de 35 milhões de euros (R$ 147,5 milhões) pelo jogador. O Barça, por sua vez, quer 45 milhões de euros (R$ 190 milhões), mas a tendência é que um acordo intermediário seja feito. A Internazionale oferece um contrato de três temporadas.

Atualmente, Rakitic recebe 5,5 milhões de euros (R$ 23 milhões) por temporada, mas o jogador quer uma melhora contratual, que ainda não foi oferecida pelo Barcelona. Seu contrato se encerra em junho de 2021 e o atleta já declarou o desejo de permanecer na Espanha.

MESMA ESTRATÉGIA

Marcelo vem convivendo com as críticas da torcida e de setores da imprensa espanhola por conta de seu rendimento em campo. Para o jornal “AS”, o jogador estaria usando a “fórmula” utilizada por Cristiano Ronaldo para deixar o clube.

O periódico revelou que o lateral entrou em contato com o diretor-geral do Real Madrid, José Ángel Sánchez, e informou sua insatisfação, solicitando ainda que ele não dificulte sua saída caso chegue uma proposta, como “prêmio por sua grande trajetória”.

IDA PARA A EUROPA

Mais uma promessa do Vasco está para deixar o clube precocemente. Dessa vez é Lucas Santos. O meia, que completará 20 anos em março e foi capitão da equipe vice-campeã da Copa São Paulo de Juniores deste ano, recebeu proposta e deverá defender o CSKA, da Rússia. A conversa está avançada e deverá ser concluída nesta quinta-feira, visto que a janela de transferências do país euro-asiático fecha na sexta-feira.

A negociação está avançada, e o Cruz-Maltino deverá manter um parcerias dos direitos econômicos. Com o dinheiro da venda de Lucas, os salários atrasados recentes do clube deverão ser quitados. O meia deixaria o clube depois de apenas quatro partidas como profissional, uma este ano. O Benfica, de Portugal, e o Shakhtar Donetsk, da Ucrânia, também desejaram o jogador.

URUGUAIO NO TIMÃO

O zagueiro uruguaio Bruno Méndez assinou nesta quarta-feira com o Corinthians por cinco temporadas, até o fim de 2023. Aos 19 anos, o beque foi comprado do Montevideo Wanderes (URU). Ele estava disputando o Sul-Americano Sub-20 com a seleção uruguaia e passou por exames médicos no Corinthians na terça-feira. Nesta quarta, foi ao CT Joaquim Grava e assinou o contrato.

Bruno Méndez será o 11º reforço do Corinthians para 2019. Antes dele, o Timão contratou o zagueiro Manoel, o lateral-direito Michel Macedo, os volantes Richard e Júnior Urso, os meias Ramiro e Sornoza e os atacantes Vagner Love, Boselli, Gustavo Silva e André Luis.

PERDEU A PACIÊNCIA

A paciência do Real Madrid com Gareth Bale parece ter chegado ao fim. Segundo o jornal “AS”, os Merengues colocarão o galês como disponível para transferências na próxima janela, no meio do ano. O jogador não assumiu o protagonismo com a saída de Cristiano Ronaldo e segue devendo no clube.

Bale convive com lesões e marcou apenas nove gols em 29 partidas pelo Real Madrid em 2018/19. Além disso, o clube não está satisfeito com a falta de liderança do jogador, que não fala espanhol mesmo em sua sexta temporada no país ibérico.

AGIU RÁPIDO

Após perder o técnico Milton Cruz, o Sport agiu rápido e trouxe o treinador Guto Ferreira, que no ano passado esteve a frente de Bahia e Chapecoense. O acordo é válido até o final deste temporada de 2019. Guto leva com ele o preparador físico Valdir Nogueira Junior (Juninho), e os auxiliares técnicos Alexandre Faganello e André Luís dos Santos Ferreira.

Essa será a terceira vez que Guto Ferreira estará à frente de uma equipe da região Nordeste em sua carreira. Além do Bahia em 2018, ele dirigiu entre 2010 e 2011 o ABC-RN.

NOME NO RADAR

O Arsenal procura um substituto para Petr Cech, que anunciou aposentadoria para o fim da temporada. O treinador Unai Emery que manter a competição aberta com Bernd Leno e cogita a contratação de Nick Pope, do Burnley.

Segundo o ‘Daily Mail’, o Arsenal monitora o jogador junto com Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham e Newcastle, que também acreditam no potencial do goleiro inglês, que foi convocado para a última Copa do Mundo pelo treinador Gareth Southgate.

واصل أسطورة ليفربول، روبي فاولر، المديح لجناح وهداف الفريق الأول لكرة القدم، محمد صلاح، بعد الأرقام التي يحققها بقميص الريدز هذا الموسم.

ووصل محمد صلاح إلى هدفه رقم 30 في الموسم الحالي، بالإضافة إلى هدفه رقم 100 في ملعب “أنفيلد” مع ليفربول وصعد للمركز الخامس بترتيب هدافي ليفربول التاريخيين برصيد 186 هدفًا بعد تسجيله في شباك برينتفورد يوم، السبت الماضي.

وتحدث فاولر عن محمد صلاح من جديد في تصريحات لستوديو الدوري الإنجليزي الرسمي، وقال: “أعتقد أنه في كل جولة يلعب مو فيها مع ليفربول، بهذا الأداء الرائع، يجعل جميع من حوله يبدون سيئين المستوى، لكني نكون منصفين”.

وتابع: “أرقامه استثنائية، لقد انتقل إلى ليفربول ولا أعتقد أن أي شخص قد تصور كم الأهداف التي سجلها والإنجازات التي وصل إليها مع الفريق”.

وأضاف: “محمد صلاح ظاهرة، لاعب رائع يتمناه أي زميل في أي فريق، يفعل كل شيء بطريقة صحيحة، لقد كانت صفقة رائعة لنادي ليفربول”.

وأتم: “محمد صلاح بالفعل أسطورة في ليفربول، عندما تنظر إلى مدى الإنجازات والألقاب التي حصل عليها، كل هذا أمام أنظار الجميع، لذلك أعتبره أسطورة لهذا الفريق”.

كشف مصدر مسؤول داخل النادي الأهلي، عن تطورات المفاوضات مع علي زين نجم منتخب مصر لكرة اليد المحترف في صفوف دينامو بوخارست الروماني، وذلك لتدعيم صفوف الشياطين الحمر في بطولتي كأس السوبر الإفريقي والبطولة الإفريقية للأندية أبطال الكؤوس. 

وقال المصدر في تصريحات خاصة لـ “بطولات”: “وصلنا إلى مرحلة متقدمة لضم علي زين نجم منتخب مصر لكرة اليد، ودينامو بوخارست الروماني”.

وأضاف: “المفاوضات مع علي زين لم يتبقى بها سوى بعض التفاصيل الأخيرة من أجل ضم اللاعب للمشاركة مع الأهلي في بطولتي السوبر الإفريقي لكرة اليد وكأس الكؤوس الإفريقية لكرة اليد”.

ومن المقرر أن يلتقي الأهلي مع الترجي التونسي يوم 6 مايو المقبل في نصف نهائي كأس السوبر الإفريقي، بينما يواجه الزمالك نظيره كينشاسا الكونغولي.

وسيتأهل الفائز بالبطولة للمشاركة في كأس العالم للأندية “سوبر جلوب 2023” بالمملكة العربية السعودية.
