أكد عبد الله بن دسمال عضو مجلس إدارة شركة كرة القدم بنادي الجزيرة الإماراتي، أنهم وفقوا في التعاقد مع اللاعب المغربي أشرف بن شرقي، مشيرًا إلى أن فريقه سيحاول بذل أقصى جهد في الموسم الجديد.

وقال بن دسمال في تصريحات تلفزيونية بفضائية “الحياة” عبر برنامج “كورة كل يوم”: “بدأت المفاوضات مع أشرف بن شرقي قبل مباراة الأهلي والزمالك في نهائي كأس مصر، الشهر الماضي تقريبًا”.

وأضاف: “غير صحيح أن عقد بن شرقي مع الجزيرة مقابل 3 ملايين دولار في الموسم وهو أقل من ذلك، سياسة النادي ارقام الصفقات تكون غير معلنة، عقده مع نادي الجزيرة لمدة موسمين”.

وأردف: “خلال أسبوع سينضم أشرف بن شرقي لفريق الجزيرة”.

واستكمل: “علاقة مصر والإمارات كبيرة، حال فوز الزمالك بالدوري وأراد النادي استدعاء بن شرقي للاحتفال معهم بالفوز بالدوري فلا يوجد لدينا مشكلة، لو اللاعب ليس عليه أي التزامات”.

واختتم: “لم نقصد التقليل من شان أي نادي في فيديو تقديم أشرف بن شرقي”.

وكان نادي الجزيرة قد أعلن عن التعاقد مع بن شرقي بتدوينة: “أحلامهم واقعنا”.

Three uncapped players – Grenada fast bowler Nelon Pascal, Barbados batsman Dale Richards, and Jamaica medium-pacer Andrew Richardson – have been included in the squad.However, in a blow to West Indies’ hopes Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out of the two Tests after medical advice said he hadn’t recovered sufficiently from the ankle surgery that kept him out of the game for eight months. He returned with impressive results in the one-day series against England and was expected to make this tour but the management are taking a cautious approach.Powell was axed after a prolonged spell of poor form – he managed only 25 wickets at 60.80 in his previous 14 Tests – while Hinds was left out after a lacklustre showing in the final Test against England.Richardson was called up after playing a pivotal role in taking Jamaica to the domestic four-day title, bagging 33 wickets at 23.12. “This year Richardson has been bowling very well and deserves his selection,” Clyde Butts, the chairman of selectors, said. “He is tall, accurate and has the ability to get wickets at crucial stages in the game.”Pascal, 21, who has taken 20 wickets in his previous five first-class games, caught the selectors’ eye with his pace while the 32-year-old Richards regains a place after recovering from a foot injury that ruled him out of action in February.Guyana’s Narsingh Deonarine, who played four Tests in 2005, has been recalled after becoming the first West Indies batsman to make more than 1000 domestic runs this season. “We felt he needed to get scores and take his game to another level and he did just that,” Butts said. “He has been consistent and deserves this chance.”Another player who has been out of the national reckoning for a long time, allrounder David Bernard, makes a comeback while medium-pacer Darren Sammy, who burst onto the international scene with a seven-wicket haul on debut during the 2007 trip to England, also finds a place. South Africa’s officials say they hope to replace the controversial quota system with merit-based selection by 2011. The plan, which falls under the transformation process already in place, will be reviewed every year and culminate, officials hope, in merit-based selection across the board.”The goal is to get merit-based selection at all levels of cricket,” CSA chief executive Gerald Majola told . “We have decided to continue with the target transformation policy for the next three years, with a review at the end of each year. At the end of the three years we hope we can then move to merit-based selection across the board.”The target transformation policy – the formal name for Cricket South Africa’s so-called quota system – was introduced in 1998 to gain a better balance in the number of non-white players at the highest level of South African cricket. It has seen Makhaya Ntini, Ashwell Prince and Hashim Amla ranked among the world’s best.Yet it continues to polarise opinion with many concerns that the system is little more than tokenism. As recently as March this year, Andre Nel was rumoured to be considering his future after he was omitted from South Africa’s squad to tour India. A row subsequently broke out between coach Mickey Arthur and the CSA president, Norman Arendse, when it transpired that the squad didn’t feature sufficient players of colour as required by the transformation policy.Twelve months ago, South African Cricketers’ Association (SACA) chief executive Tony Irish confirmed that the top 25 cricketers in the country had called upon CSA to do away with quotas in the selection of the national team.”The players feel that as soon as a racial number is set for selection of the team it leads to a divisive dynamic within the team,” Irish said, “and it is also degrading to the players of colour who should be there on merit yet are labelled a quota/target player.”South Africa have picked seven coloured players – Prince, Amla, Ntini, Robin Peterson, Jean-Paul Duminy, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Monde Zondeki – in their 15-man squad to tour Australia next week.

Juranovic would seem to be a real coup for the Hoops should any move come to fruition, as he would add quality to Celtic in an attacking and defensive sense.

The 26-year-old excelled in Poland last season, registering nine goal contributions in 32 appearances with one goal and eight assists [Transfermarkt], a fine return for a defender. He is also renowned for his pinpoint crossing ability, something which Celtic could utilise when struggling to play through low-block defences.

Performing solidly in his two appearances at the European Championship over the summer, he managed to complete six ball recoveries and three clearances for Croatia during the finals [UEFA.com].

Given his wide range of attributes and their need for more experienced right-back depth, Celtic should definitely try to seize upon Juranovic’s apparent desire to join the Hoops and submit an offer to meet Legia Warsaw’s asking price.

The speculation about Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s availability for the Test series in Sri Lanka has been laid to rest with the BCCI making it official that he has requested for a break.
