The vast majority of a 4,000 crowd had already left.Having lost the toss and taken only 11 runs from their two powerplay overs, bowled by Azhar Mahmood and Charl Langeveldt, Hampshire quickly made up for lost time.Their left-handed opening pair of Jimmy Adams and Michael Lumb bludgeoned 28 from Simon Cook’s only over. Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte should unleash Steven Bergwijn in a new role as his side faces a daunting trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Premier League later this evening.

The Lilywhites remain in the race for a top-four finish and the prospect of Champions League football next season but currently sit two points behind arch-rivals and fourth-placed Arsenal, who they face later next week.

Meanwhile, the Reds sit one point behind defending champions Manchester City and need to keep the pressure on whilst the latter’s morale could be low following their agonising semi-final exit on Wednesday.

It leaves the Italian head coach with plenty to ponder heading into kick-off. One conundrum has to be at wing-back, where a mix of injuries and inconsistencies have caused something of a headache.

Without Matt Doherty, Conte has had to rely on summer signing Emerson Royal, but it is very evident that he’s just not fancied, with The Times suggesting back in January that the manager felt the 23-year-old wasn’t good enough to play the wing-back role as Tottenham targeted Adama Traore.

Some supporters around N17 think he’s a “liability”, while former Spurs centre-back Jonathan Woodgate has slammed him for being “horrendous” in recent outings.

There is a serious lack of options available to the Tottenham boss, though, which is perhaps why he has continued to persist with the struggling ex-Barcelona flop.

However, Bergwijn could provide an interesting solution to Conte, especially given the attacking demands from the position. Truth be told, he’s perhaps been unlucky to not be given more of a chance in north London.

On the left, he’s competing with a red-hot Heung-min Son and on the right, he’s having to battle January arrival Dejan Kuluseveski, who has already usurped the squad in assists (eight).

The £18m-rated dynamo, who earns a reported £73k-per-week, has started just one league game since his match-winning brace from the bench against Leicester City in mid-January.

It’s not too dissimilar to the role that Jose Mourinho asked from him last season, particularly against the Gunners, where he put in two tackles and two clearances, helping Serge Aurier out defensively.

It was a performance which saw the ‘Special One’ describe the Netherland sinternational as “incredible” for his energy and work rate.

As such, he could well have all the credentials to fill in for Emerson at right wing-back over the final four games of the season, starting with tonight’s tricky test.

Conte should give Bergwijn a chance in the surprise role – he could well unearth a vital secret weapon in the race for a top-four finish.

O técnico Thiago Larghi teve apenas dois dias de treino no campo para ajustar o Atlético-MG. O próximo desafio do Galo é a partida das quartas de final do Campeonato Mineiro contra a URT. O pouco tempo de preparação é por conta do jogo entre o Alvinegro e o Figueirense, na Copa do Brasil, na última quarta-feira.

A atividade desta sexta-feira foi fechada e o técnico não revelou o time titular. A expectativa é que o treinador mantenha a equipe que atuou contra o Furacão. As únicas certezas no time do Atlético-MG são os retornos do zagueiro Gabriel e do volante Elias.Para o meio de campo, Thiago Larghi escondeu o jogo. A dúvida é entre dar sequência à Cazares ou optar pelo atacante Erik,mexendo mais uma vez no trio ofensivo.

– A gente pensa em outras alternativas, mas também tem a ideia da continuidade. A gente tem pouco tempo de treino, então tem horas que a gente precisa repetir certas escalações para tentar encontrar um padrão de jogo e corrigir minimamente os detalhes. (…) Os treinamentos são poucos, então a gente tem que repetir os jogos para dar coerência e credibilidade ao jogador para amadurecer – afirmou o treinador.

O Atlético-MG vai encarar a equipe de Patos de Minas, neste domingo, às 16h, no Horto.

Em jogo sofrido, o Atlético-MG conseguiu arrancar um empate no fim contra o Tupi, neste domingo, pelo Campeonato Mineiro. Aos 43 minutos do segundo tempo, Cazares arriscou e selou a igualdade por 1 a 1. Do outro lado, Vitinho fez ainda no primeiro tempo. DUELO DE INTERINOS
Os times tinham em seus comandos técnicos interinos. Tanto Thiago Larghi quanto Ricardo Leão queriam mostrar serviço aos torcedores e à diretoria. Com isso, o que se esperava era um jogo brigado, apesar da diferença dos elencos.

GALO ATIVO
Antes dos dez minutos, o Galo mineiro teve três chances claras de gols, com Róger Guedes, e duas de Ricardo Oliveira. Em uma delas, o centroavante, dentro da pequena área, foi atrapalhado por uma imperfeição no gramado e acabou desperdiçando.

GALO CARIJÓ ABRIU PLACAR
Em jogada brigada na intermediária, aos 16 minutos, Vitinho pegou bola espirrada, arriscou cruzado de perna esquerda, e bola foi parar no cantinho, sem chances para o goleiro Victor.

MELHOR
Mesmo fazendo o gol, o time da casa continuou melhor na partida, conseguindo trocar passes no meio-campo e achar espaços. Já o Atlético-MG estava desorganizado, e apesar de obter maior posse de bola, mostrava deficiência nas finalizações.

AGRESSIVO
A segunda etapa começou, novamente, com o Atlético-MG arriscando e chegando com perigo ao gol de Vilar. Primeiro com Ricardo Oliveira, de cabeça, e depois com Erik, que recebeu na área livre, porém isolou a bola.

ESTRATÉGICO
O Galo Carijó continuou com a mesma tática de esperar o Galo mineiro chegar à área, e permaneceu no contra-ataque. Para tentar furar a defesa, Thiago Larghi substituiu dois jogadores de habilidades para colocar atletas de velocidade.

PERIGOSO
Enquanto o Atlético-MG tentava furar o bloqueio da zaga, o Tupi no momento que chegava era perigoso nos contra-ataques. Em uma dessas jogadas, Victor tirou a bola, que entraria e seria gol do time da casa.

NO FINAL
Após tantos toques de bola, o Atlético-MG conseguiu o empate, aos 43 minutos, com Cazares. O jogador arriscou de longe e o goleiro se esticou, mas a bola balançou a rede.

Three weeks ago the chances of a thrilling conclusion to the County Championship looked highly unlikely. It’s a northern finale, which means the weather could well play its part, while the ECB would do well to have the trophy in a high-speed car. That just adds to the potential drama. It’s a finish to match 2008 when Durham surged to their first title – something Somerset are looking to match this year – after Nottinghamshire bottled their chance. Chris Read’s team are clearly susceptible to vertigo.Even victory for Nottinghamshire may not be enough. Anything less than 22 points from their match brings Somerset and Yorkshire into the equation if they gain a maximum 24 points. Given the batting form of Nottinghamshire, passing 300 at Old Trafford to gain three bonus points may be too much, especially if the surface aids spin which is a strength of Lancashire’s and not of the visitors. Meanwhile, Oliver Hannon-Dalby’s emergence has helped cover for the absence of Tim Bresnan and Ajmal Shahzad with England and Tino Best’s disappearance.An advantage for Yorkshire in pursuit of a positive result is that Kent are equally desperate to win to maintain any chance of staying in Division One unless, or until, Hampshire secure the required points against Warwickshire to condemn Kent to the drop. So long as there is a chance of staying up Robert Key, Kent’s captain, will have to chase victory at all costs, which will keep Yorkshire in the match.One of the teams coming up to the top division is already known after Sussex’s expected return, but the second promotion slot is up for grabs with Worcestershire having a chance of overtaking Glamorgan, which would be a remarkable story given Steve Rhodes’ meagre resources. Leicestershire, with problems of their own, retain an outside chance but need huge favours from the other two sides. While that race will be interesting, it’s the sides vying for the £500,000 main prize that will take top billing.

Everton will invite Niko Kovac and Rudi Garcia to make ‘presentations’ to their decision-makers, according to The Mirror’s David Maddock. 

The duo will be given the chance to pitch to Farhad Moshiri and Alisher Usmanov as the search for Rafael Benitez’s permanent successor continues.

Moshiri and Usmanov held talks with Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira in Monaco last weekend, and his appointment looked ‘imminent’ before concerned board members talked them out of what they considered a ‘knee-jerk’ decision.

The lowdown on Kovac and Garcia

Kovac would probably be best known as a former manager of Bayern Munich. He earned that job after taking fellow Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt from relegation territory to the top half, and won a league-and-cup double with the Bavarians in his first season before he was sacked the following year.

He most recently worked at AS Monaco in France, where he would have faced Garcia’s Lyon.

Garcia left the Stade Gerland at the end of the 2020/21 season, having won 56.4% of his games in charge.

For context, the last permanent Everton manager to better his record of 1.88 points per game was Howard Kendall.
