Toluca clinch 2025 Campeones Cup with unbelievable extra-time winner from Federico Pereira in 3-2 victory over LA Galaxy

Antonio Mohamed said Toluca were hungry to lift the Campeones Cup and the Diablos Rojos delivered on his words in a thrilling 3-2 win over the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. Despite Gabriel Pec’s 84th-minute strike giving LA Galaxy the lead and a disallowed Paulinho goal earlier, Mohamed’s side dominated the second half and ultimately saw justice served on the field.

While LA were underdogs against the Liga MX champions, they got off to a strong start. Diego Fagúndez put the Galaxy ahead in the 37th minute, converting from the spot after Gabriel Pec was brought down by Jesús Gallardo in a controversial call from referee Iván Barton. Fagúndez has now recorded a goal or an assist in four straight matches for Greg Vanney’s side.

Tensions boiled over just before halftime, leading to the dismissal of Toluca head coach Antonio Mohamed for dissent as the teams headed into the break.

pressed early in the second half and quickly found an equalizer through Nico Castro, whose long-range strike in the 53rd minute clipped the post on its way past Novak Micovic. In the 78th minute, Paulinho appeared to give Toluca a 2-1 lead with a headed finish from a set piece, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.

Toluca were still reeling from the disallowed goal when the Galaxy struck what looked like the winner in the 83rd minute. Pec, capping off an outstanding performance, beat Hugo González to put his team ahead. But before the clock hit 90 minutes, Franco Romero silenced Dignity Health Sports Park by smashing home a rebound from a set piece in the 88th to make it 2-2.

The match seemed destined for extra time, but Toluca dashed LA’s hopes in the 90+3rd minute. Uruguayan defender Federico Pereira rose to head home a corner, delivering a dramatic 3-2 victory and the championship. Tempers flared at the final whistle but didn’t escalate beyond some shoving.

Manager Greg Vanney had admitted in his pre-match press conference that winning the Campeones Cup could help salvage what has been a disappointing MLS campaign, with Galaxy sitting bottom of the Western Conference. But that didn’t happen. The defeat puts Vanney back on the hot seat, as LA have had a disappointing title defense this season. The team is already eliminated from the playoffs and sits last in the Western Conference.

'Everyone is always going to say rubbish' – Brooklyn Beckham breaks silence on family feud after snubbing dad David's 50th birthday party

Brooklyn Beckham has broken his silence on the feud that has supposedly ripped an iconic sporting family apart. The eldest child of Manchester United legend David and former Spice Girls popstar Victoria has seemingly severed ties with his mother, father and siblings. Brooklyn was a notable absentee when his ex-England captain dad celebrated turning 50 in May 2025.

Are Brooklyn & David Beckham on speaking terms?

Booklyn formed no part of the lavish parties thrown by David Beckham, who is now working with eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi as a co-owner of MLS side Inter Miami. His brothers Romeo and Cruz were involved, along with sister Harper. Questions were being asked before that point of whether all is well in the Beckham family unit. It is claimed that Brooklyn is no longer on speaking terms with his famous parents.

There have also been reports to suggest that he has blocked his brothers on social media, meaning that no communication takes place there either. Brooklyn did wish a happy birthday to Harper when seeing her turn 14 in July. His wife, Nicola Peltz, also passed on a message. The American actress has found herself at the centre of much of the Beckham feud rumour and gossip. Brooklyn and Nicola recently renewed their wedding vows without inviting David, Victoria and Co to that ceremony.

  • What Brooklyn said about supposed Beckham feud

Brooklyn is focused on his own life for now, with the 24-year-old forming part of the pre-Ryder Cup activities in New York – ahead of that epic golfing showdown between Team USA and Team Europe taking place at the iconic and notoriously difficult to navigate Bethpage Black course. Beckham lined up for an A-list European side against American opposition in a celebrity event.

Brooklyn was inevitably quizzed on the apparent breakdown in his relationship with David, Victoria, Romeo and Cruz, but was quick to shrug off that probing and play down the intense speculation that he continues to generate. He told the : “There's always going to be people saying negative things but I have a very supportive wife. Me and her, we just do our thing, we just keep our heads down and work. And we're happy.”

Brooklyn went on to say, while pointing out that he “never” worries what people outside of his close circle of friends have to say in the global media and online: “Everyone is always going to say rubbish. I just try and do this, play some golf with some friends. It's good fun.”

Beckham taunted by fans at 2025 Ryder Cup event

Brooklyn and his family were last pictured together on Boxing Day 2024. He does not appear to have rubbed shoulders with them since, instead choosing to focus on his own work and lifestyle commitments.

He paired up with former NBA star Toni Kukoc at the Ryder Cup event, as they faced off against comedian Colin Jost and Super Bowl-winning ex-New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Unsurprisingly, Beckham found himself becoming an easy target for those in the crowd – not that he has any issue with that.

He said of attracting taunts on the tee box and fairways: “I feel like they didn't like me at all – but it was amazing. They gave me a bit of rubbish but I kind of expected it – being in New York, going against Eli… they were just laughing. But it is what it is, I was having fun out there. I did the best I could. It was honestly just really fun. Honestly, it was really nerve-wracking… but it was such a cool experience – I couldn't say no. It was amazing.”

  • What does Brooklyn Beckham do for a living?

Brooklyn said he is now planning to head back to Los Angeles, rather than hang around on the east coast, with his wife being left at home in California with their four dogs. He also stated that he needs to “get back to work”.

Beckham worked as a model and a photographer before building a hot sauce brand called Cloud 23. That number offers a nod towards the shirt that his father wore when representing Real Madrid and first moving to the United States and joining the LA Galaxy.

49ers agree personal terms to sign "powerful" ace as Rangers await decision

Still on the hunt for one more defensive addition, Glasgow Rangers have reportedly agreed personal terms to sign an in-demand centre-back, who has now been left to make his transfer decision.

Rangers react in style to Martin criticism

If there’s one thing that Rangers have learned in the early days of Russell Martin’s tenure, it is that anything less than 100% will not be accepted and will be called out. The former Southampton boss was left furious with his side’s efforts on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership campaign as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Motherwell.

Following a scathing review, Martin backed up his words with actions and dropped the likes of James Tavernier and Nicolas Raskin. Expecting a reaction, the new manager watched on as his side put Viktoria Plzen to the sword to win 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League third qualifying round tie.

Rangers managerRussellMartinapplauds fans after the match

The big test will now be following up on that improved performance against Dundee on Saturday evening. As the action continues to come thick and fast on the pitch, however, so does the transfer business away from it, with one more reinforcement now potentially on the way.

Rangers agree personal terms with Nobel Mendy

As reported by transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri, the 49ers and Rangers have now agreed personal terms with Nobel Mendy. The Real Betis defender is a man in demand this summer, but it’s now a battle between the Gers and Real Vallecano for his signature, with the player now set to decide the outcome soon.

As Martin waits on Mendy’s decision, he will be hoping to welcome an impressive young centre-back to counter Celtic’s deal to sign Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on loan from Manchester City.

Kent 2.0: Rangers join race to sign "big potential" talent from PL giants

As Russell Martin searches for more new signings, could Rangers bring in a “talented” youngster from a Premier League giant in a Ryan Kent repeat?

ByBen Gray Aug 7, 2025

Dubbed “powerful” by scout Kai Watson, Mendy would be another excellent addition at Ibrox this month.

As dispensable as Nsiala: Teams have major interest in Rangers flop

Glasgow Rangers have been focused on bringing players to Ibrox during the summer transfer window, as they have brought in the likes of Thelo Aasgaard, Emmanuel Fernandez, Djeidi Gassama, and Max Aarons, among others.

However, Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell also have to be wary of the size of the squad and the reality that some players will have to move on, amid interest in some of the fringe members of the team.

As you can see in the post above from Sacha Tavolieri, there are at least three teams interested in a deal to sign central defender Clinton Nsiala.

Martin has already admitted that the centre-back, who was not included in the squad to face Panathinaikos on Tuesday, could be on his way out of Ibrox this summer, and the former AC Milan man may not be the only one.

Two teams have major interest in Rangers forward

Nsiala is far from the only player on the fringes of the squad ahead of next season, as there will be plenty of people looking at their futures beyond this summer.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

According to the Daily Record, Rangers forward Ross McCausland is attracting interest from a number of clubs ahead of a potential move away from Ibrox.

The report claims that Aris Limassol and two teams in the MLS have a ‘major’ interest in snapping up the Northern Ireland international before the end of the window.

Ross McCausland for Rangers against Celtic.

It adds that they are weighing him up as a potential loan signing, whilst there are also unnamed teams from England monitoring his situation.

Why Rangers should allow Ross McCausland to go

The Light Blues should allow McCausland to leave, whether that is on loan or on a permanent basis, this summer because he is as dispensable as Nsiala, who Martin has already admitted could be on his way out.

Rangers forward Ross McCausland.

In the 2024/25 campaign, the French centre-back started ten of his 11 appearances in the Scottish Premiership, but ended the season as an unused substitute in the last two matches.

McCausland, meanwhile, only started four of his 13 appearances in the division for the Scottish giants, who have since signed Aasgaard and Gassama to play in the attacking midfield positions.

As you can see in the table above, the academy graduate offered very little in the final third from a right wing position, with zero goals and zero assists in those 13 games.

He ended the season with more red cards (one) than goal contributions in the league, having been sent off for two bookable offences against Aberdeen in April.

Pundit Tam McManus criticised the “poor” Rangers flop after those mistakes, as McCausland made a rash challenge whilst already on a yellow card to end up being sent off.

The 22-year-old dud is, therefore, just as dispensable as Nsiala is this summer, as both players failed to nail down a place as a regular starter in the league last season, and are now attracting suitors from elsewhere.

He's perfect for Kudus: Big-money Man City target wants to join Spurs

What started as a rather miserable summer with the sacking of Ange Postecoglou has turned into what could be a brilliant one for Tottenham Hotspur.

Thomas Frank has a massive task ahead of him both domestically and on the continent next season, but Daniel Levy and Co appear intent on giving him what he needs.

After making the required signing of another young prospect in Japanese defender Kota Takai, the North Londoners made the massive £55m purchase of Mohammed Kudus.

The former West Ham United star is undoubtedly going to add something special to Frank’s attack, and now the club appear likely to land another Premier League star who’d be his dream ten.

Tottenham Hotspur target Premier League stars

In an understandable bid to improve their terrible domestic form ahead of next season, Spurs have seemingly made a concrete effort to target players who did exceptionally well in the Premier League last season.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

One of those is Yoane Wissa, who, according to reports, could be available for around £50m.

That might sound like a lot for a 28-year-old Brentford player, but with 20 goals and five assists to his name in 39 appearances last season, he’d be more than worth the outlay.

That said, being a centre-forward, he is obviously not the target who could be Kudus’ dream ten; that tag goes to Morgan Gibbs-White.

Yes, in what is now turning into the latest transfer saga involving the North Londoners, a recent report from transfers expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Spurs have maintained their desire to sign the Nottingham Forest star.

The Italian journalist has claimed that, despite the Tricky Trees threatening legal action following the Lilywhites’ activation of the Englishman’s £60m release clause, the club remain confident that they will get their man.

That’s undoubtedly due to the player’s desire to make a move happen, with journalist Graeme Bailey also reporting that Gibbs-White has told Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis that he wishes to sign for Spurs. That’s despite interest from Manchester City.

Indeed, earlier in the window, it was reported that the Citizens have been working on a deal to sign the creative midfielder this summer and had allegedly already agreed on personal terms. Yet, they have preferred other options up to this point, namely new signing Rayan Cherki.

This deal would represent a serious financial commitment from the Europa League champions, but given Gibbs-White’s form last season, it’d be one worth making, especially as he’d be a dream ten for Kudus.

Why Gibbs-White would be a dream ten for Kudus

While there are several reasons why Gibbs-White would be a dream number ten for Kudus, one of the most crucial is simply his output.

For example, in just 34 appearances last season, totalling 2824 minutes, the “exceptional” midfielder, as dubbed by Pep Guardiola, scored seven goals and provided ten assists.

That means he averaged a goal involvement every other game, or one every 166.11 minutes, which is made all the more impressive by the fact that Forest only scored 58 goals in the league.

Just imagine then how many goals and assists the former Irons star could amass playing alongside someone that creative and effective.

Moreover, when we take a look at the 25-year-old’s underlying numbers, we can see some of the ways in which he could get the ball up to his potential future teammate.

For example, FBref ranked him in the top 8% of attacking midfielders and wingers for passes into the final third in the Premier League last season, and the top 9% for through balls, per 90, demonstrating exactly why some analysts believe that he is a “monster” in transitional phases of play.

Finally, it’s easy to overlook the simple fact that the Stafford-born ace is already proven in the league, so there should be little need for a bedding-in period, and therefore, he could start providing chances for the Ghanaian international from day one.

Morgan Gibbs-White for Nottingham Forest.

Ultimately, it will be an expensive deal, but Spurs look to be onto a winner with Gibbs-White, especially in tandem with Kudus.

Shakib: 'Happy with the way I contributed, it wasn't an easy wicket'

The senior allrounder scored his first T20I fifty in two years to help Bangladesh beat Netherlands

Shashank Kishore13-Jun-20241:42

Maharoof: Shakib was prepared for Netherlands’ short-ball tactics

Prior to Thursday, Shakib Al Hasan had last registered a T20I half-century in October 2022. Since then, he’s battled a number of issues, on and off the field, including an eye condition that has hampered his batting. In his first two matches at the T20 World Cup, he was knocked off for 8 and 3. But in a vital group fixture against Netherlands, he broke the 19-match streak without a half-century with an unbeaten 46-ball 64 that helped Bangladesh post 159, which proved to be 25 too many for Netherlands. This puts Bangladesh in an excellent position to make the Super Eights going into their final league fixture against Nepal on Monday.”It was important for someone from the top four to bat throughout the innings,” Shakib said after being named Player of the match. “Happy with the way I contributed. It wasn’t an easy wicket [to bat on] but we held our nerves and put on a decent total.”Related

Shakib, Rishad and Mustafizur take Bangladesh one step closer to Super Eight

Shakib walked into bat with Bangladesh in trouble at 23 for 2 but looked in sparkling form right from the outset. His counterattack along with Tanzid Hasan, with whom he added 48 in just 32 balls, caught Netherlands briefly off guard. The acceleration gave Bangladesh a little bit of breathing space on a surface that slowed down considerably as the match progressed. It set up cameos from Mahmudullah and Jaker Ali as Bangladesh made 54 off the last five overs.Shakib admitted assessing the surface wasn’t easy considering this was the first T20I at the venue in over 10 years. Shakib himself has had some experience of playing here, having featured in Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win overseas, back in 2009.While that may have elicited happy memories, it’s unlikely they could’ve drawn upon something from that experience. “There’s hardly been an international game here in the last four-five years, so we didn’t know what a good score was,” Shakib explained.”We had to keep wickets in hand to see where we would be after 14-15 overs and then see how far we go. Our total [159] was decent, in a World Cup can it’s always tricky to chase. I won’t say it was a winning total, but it was a challenging total.”Netherlands were in the hunt for the first 14 overs of the chase. After losing openers Michael Levitt and Max O’Dowd inside the powerplay, they accelerated courtesy Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht. Then with Scott Edwards coming in and picking off runs against spin, especially towards the shorter leg-side boundary with the breeze, they brought down the equation to 56 runs needed off 36 balls. It’s at this point that legspinner Rishad Hossain turned the game around by picking up Engelbrecht and Bas de Leede in the space of three deliveries to turn the game around. He would finish with figures of 3 for 33 to take his wickets tally to seven in the competition, just two behind the leader, Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi.”They [Netherlands] had their moments,” Shakib said. “In the 12th over, they were close to 90 for 3. Ten an over from there on this wicket with the wind going one way, it wasn’t easy to restrict them but credit to our bowlers for the way they held their nerve.”

Leeds now open talks for "incredible" £60k-p/w player with 10 England caps

Leeds United have now opened talks with the entourage of an “incredible” player with 10 England caps to his name, according to a report.

Leeds looking to avoid drop by building experienced squad

Upon their return to the Premier League, Leeds’ main aim next season will be to avoid an instant return to the Championship, and it looks as though Daniel Farke is planning to avoid the drop by building a squad with a wealth of top-flight experience.

Indeed, the Whites have been linked with players in a range of different positions, many of whom have proven themselves over a number of years in the Premier League.

The interest in Ramsdale comes about amid doubts over Illan Meslier, who was dropped for Karl Darlow during the promotion run-in, but the Southampton shot-stopper, who is available for £25m following the Saints’ relegation, is not the only English goalkeeper on the shortlist.

According to a report from Leeds United News, Leeds have now approached the entourage of Newcastle United’s Nick Pope, who has emerged as a top target for Farke now that Caoimhin Kelleher has decided to make the move to Brentford.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey also dropped a further update on Pope’s St. James’ Park future, saying: “Pope, he’s on a very good contract there and age is not on his side. It depends where Leeds want to go with it as well.

“Do they go experience or young? I think they are assessing all options. He’s a very solid option.

“Clearly he’s going to be on the radar, but I don’t think they have 100% decided which way they’re going to go just yet.”

"Incredible" Pope could be exactly what Leeds need

Meslier simply cannot be trusted, with the 25-year-old costing Farke’s side 10 points in the Championship last season, and there is every indication the Newcastle goalkeeper would be a more reliable option between the sticks.

The England international, who has 10 caps to his name, has proven himself in the top flight across spells with Burnley and Newcastle, making a total of 221 Premier League appearances, while also catching the eye in the Champions League.

Leeds expected to submit bid for "incredible" £10m ace "in the coming days"

The Whites are set to make a move for a defender in the very near future…

Journalist Liam Kennedy was left particularly impressed by the £60k-a-week goalkeeper’s performance in a 0-0 draw against AC Milan in September 2023, claiming the Magpies “wouldn’t have got a point without his incredible performance in goal”.

There is clearly a strategy to bring in proven Premier League players this summer, and Pope certainly ticks that box, while his Champions League and international experience indicates he could be a real upgrade on Meslier, who has been far too error-prone.

"Exciting" player will choose to join Arsenal over Man United and Man City

Arsenal have been handed a boost in the race to sign an “exciting” player for manager Mikel Arteta, with his transfer preference coming to light ahead of what will be a crucial summer window for new sporting director Andrea Berta.

Arsenal planning to make seven major signings this summer

Berta is expected to have a busy debut window at the Emirates Stadium, with as many as seven major signings anticipated, according to some reports.

With Arsenal now attempting to tie Thomas Partey down with a new contract, the need for two central midfielders has been pushed aside for now, but perhaps it could come back to the forefront if an agreement can’t be found on fresh terms.

The need for another left-back is obvious, with Kieran Tierney joining Celtic on a free transfer in July and Oleksandr Zinchenko likely to be sold. Jakub Kiwior can play in that position when required, as can Riccardo Calafiori, but Arteta has admitted that Arsenal need strength in depth if they’re to mount a more successful Premier League title challenge next season.

Gabriel Martinelli has been linked with the exit door and Leandro Trossard’s deal expires in 2026, while both Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz’s injuries exposed Arteta’s lack of depth up front recently – forcing Arsenal to use Mikel Merino as an emergency striker.

Goalkeeping number one David Raya also needs competition to keep him on his toes, and Neto is due to return to Bournemouth when his loan deal expires.

Joan Garcia likely to choose Arsenal move over Man United and Man City

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, promising young Espanyol keeper Joan Garcia remains on the club’s radar under Berta’s leadership.

RCDEspanyol'sJoanGarciain action with FC Barcelona's Hector Fort

The 23-year-old agreed personal terms with Arsenal last summer (Fabrizio Romano), but a move ultimately fell through. Garcia is set to have plenty of options again this year after another excellent season at Espanyol, and elite Premier League sides are in the mix, including Arsenal, Man United and Man City.

As per Sport, Garcia is likely to choose a move to Arsenal over City and United, with the Gunners seen as English favourites to sign him. However, Berta must also be wary of competition from abroad, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen also keeping firm tabs.

Garcia’s contract includes a £21 million release clause right now, but it could rise to £25 million if a club chooses to snap him up 15 days before the window shuts.

“An uber-athletic keeper with dominant cross-claiming, composure on the ball, standing at 6’3” tall, García is an exciting keeper ready for a step-up,” wrote Football Analyst Ben Mattinson about the keeper.

“García is such an athletic GK. His legs are so powerful and springy enabling him to generate more power to reach the ball. Good flexibility, agility and his proactiveness enable him to be an alert shot-stopper in the box and recover to make double saves.”

Postecoglou’s future remains in the balance, but the Australian could still make good on his promise of always winning silverware during his second season in charge.

A tough test in Bodo/Glimt awaits Tottenham in the semis, and despite their minnow status, they cannot be taken lightly – having just knocked out Serie A giants Lazio.

“From our perspective, we’ve had a difficult season and I think there’s some reasoning behind that. It was pretty evident that when we’ve got our strongest team out there, a lot of things we’ve suffered with this year I’m sure we wouldn’t have,” said Postecoglou on Tottenham’s chances of winning the Europa League.

“We’ve got the whole group. It’s not just them, it’s the whole group together. We know that we can be a team that’s pretty compelling against anybody. We’re in the final four now, so we’ve given ourselves a chance.”

Before their all-important battle against the Norwegians, which could make or break their season, Spurs have two tough Premier League tests in Nottingham Forest and champions elect Liverpool.

Postecoglou will be looking to maintain the positive mood around N17 after their quarter-final triumph, and hopefully not add more top flight defeats to their record after already losing 17 this term.

Hugo Larsson now considering move to Tottenham this summer

Summer transfer targets will also be keeping a keen eye on Tottenham’s end to the season, and one of them is believed to be Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Larsson.

The versatile Sweden midfielder is a mainstay for Dino Toppmoller’s side, racking up 40 appearances in all competitions, and he’s done enough to earn himself a £50 million price tag and interest from Man City (Pete O’Rourke).

However, according to GiveMeSport, the 20-year-old is also a wanted man at Spurs. As per their sources, Larsson is privately considering a move to Tottenham, so he’s fully aware of their interest, and it is claimed that Postecoglou’s side are now “increasingly confident” they can tempt him to N17 as a result.

Predominantly a defensive midfielder, the Scandinavian starlet has already drawn comparisons with Rodri, and Football Analyst Ben Mattinson believes Larsson is “one of the most exciting talents” to come out of Sweden in recent years.

However, Chelsea are also believed to be in race for Larsson, so there is plenty of competition.
