West Ham want to sign Fullkrug upgrade who scored 26 goals last season

West Ham had an extremely busy summer transfer window, spending around £120m on ten new signings, also making eight permanent sales, claiming back £37.5m.

One area the club identified was centre-forward, signing Niclas Füllkrug for a fee of around £27m from Borussia Dortmund, after being linked with Jhon Duran all summer.

niclas-fullkrug

This has backfired massively for the Hammers so far, with Duran netting six goals in ten appearances for Villa in all competitions, whilst Fullkrug has suffered from injuries, only making four appearances for the club so far, yet to score a goal.

So, it’s perhaps hardly surprising to see the Irons linked with another new forward.

West Ham interested in LaLiga striker

According to reports from the print edition of Tthe Sunday People, West Ham are interested in Norway and Atlético Madrid striker, Alexander Sorloth.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

The 28-year-old only just signed for the Spanish outfit this summer for a fee of around £26.5m, following his impressive 2023/24 campaign for Villarreal, making 41 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing six assists.

So far this season, the Norway international has played 11 times, only scoring just once but providing two assists in his 502 minutes played, finding his minutes rotated with other striking options, such as Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann.

Villarreal striker Alexander Sorloth

Sorloth has played in the Premier League before, making 20 appearances for Crystal Palace, only scoring one goal and providing one assist, so if he was to come back, joining West Ham, it is likely the 28-year-old would want to prove people wrong in and show what he can do in the top-flight.

Sorloth vs Fullkrug comparison

To compare Fullkrug to Sorloth, we are best off looking at the 2023/24 season of the German striker when he was able to string some games together and gather some good metrics.

In the 23/24 campaign, Fullkrug made 46 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 16 goals and providing ten assists in 3,605 minutes played.

It is also worth comparing Sorloth to Duran, who was nearly signed by the Hammers this summer. The 20-year-old already has 14 goals in 59 appearances for Aston Villa, scoring those in just 1,553 minutes.

Duran’s metrics are slightly skewed due to his minutes being off the bench, and the metrics being measured per 90 mins, but he clearly brings the most goal threat, generating the most xG, having an extremely high shot volume, and scoring the most goals per 90.

Sorloth and Fullkrug are different types of striker, who aren’t centered around their pace or running in behind, but instead, their intelligence, box movement, aerial prowess, and link-up play. Sorloth wins more aerial duels, takes more penalty area touches, provides more shot volume, and more assists/creation for others.

Fullkrug could prove many wrong at West Ham when he can get a sustained amount of minutes on the pitch to show his value. However, the longer he remains on the sidelines, and the more Duran continues to smash it, Hammers fans will want the striker situation addressed at some point. Sorloth could just be the remedy.

Club now want to sign "brilliant" 21 y/o from Rangers on permanent transfer

A “brilliant” Rangers player is catching the eye on loan at an English club and his current manager wants to make his temporary switch from Ibrox a permanent one in the future.

Latest Rangers news

The Gers haven’t made the happiest start to the season, with Philippe Clement battling hard to keep his job amid some patchy performances, leaving them five points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

It looks as though the Belgian is safe for the time being, but if a strong winning run of form isn’t on show from Rangers after the international break, the calls for him to be replaced in the Ibrox dugout may only become more deafening.

Injuries aren’t helping him, in fairness, and he will know the importance of having a fully fit squad as soon as possible, with Rabbi Matondo giving the Gers a possible boost earlier this week. The attacker took to social media to post the word “soon”, suggesting that his return to the team is imminent.

That said, youngster Oscar Cortes could be more of a “long term” absentee, not only acting as a blow for Clement but also the player himself, who has struggled to get a consistent run in the team during two separate loan spells from Lens.

Manager wants "brilliant" Rangers player permanently

One player who is out on loan at Exeter City from Rangers currently is Johnly Yfeko, with manager Gary Caldwell admitting he would like to sign the Gers youngster permanently and calling him “brilliant”.

“Johnly is a young player with a huge future and if we could tie him down to be a permanent player at this club, then I think it would be a brilliant thing to do. Those discussions will happen and hopefully, that will be a thing where we can bring him into the club on a permanent basis because he is a brilliant player and a player with a huge future.”

Yfeko is enjoying an impressive start to the season at Exeter, having joined the League One club during the summer transfer window, starting all nine league games in 2024/25 to date, helping his side sit seventh in the table and just outside the playoff positions, and he looks like a centre-back who could carve out an excellent career for himself.

It could be the best decision for all parties to allow Yfeko to move away from Rangers for good at the end of the season, should the Scottish giants not see him as an important part of their plans moving forward. He has only played one game for the Gers to date, having joined back in 2022, which suggests that may be the case.

Should the Englishman excel for the rest of the campaign, however, Rangers may feel that the young defender is worth persevering with, rather than risk losing a player with a high ceiling.

Kohli: Mental health management will become 'a norm of the future'

“You’re literally going to the ground and coming back to the room, and you don’t have a space where you can just disconnect from the game”

Varun Shetty02-Jun-20214:53

Kohli: Mental health a huge factor that shouldn’t be neglected

Virat Kohli believes that mental health management will become “a norm of the future” alongside the physical workload management that is already prevalent in cricket. The India captain said he doesn’t want a situation where his players fall away for a lack of space to express their issues. The resumption of cricket, after the Covid-19 pandemic hit, starting with the English summer last year, has come with additional mental stress, especially for touring players. As the team that – alongside England – has played the most amount of cricket during this period, while also having the additional load of the IPL, India’s top cricketers have had to deal with the challenge of going from one biosecure bubble to another with little break in between. Now they are scheduled to play the World Test Championship final and a five-match Test series in England, followed by the remainder of IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup in the next four months. All that apart from the second-string team that will be playing in Sri Lanka through July.”The kind of structure we’re competing inside, for a long period of time it’s difficult for players to stay motivated and find the right kind of mental space in one area and just do this stuff day in and day out, and [then] dealing with high-pressure situations,” Kohli said. “So this will definitely become a norm of the future, where apart from the workloads, the mental health side of things will also come into the picture big time.”You don’t have an outlet at all in today’s day and age. You’re literally going to the ground and coming back to the room, and you don’t have a space where you can just disconnect from the game and go out for a walk or a meal and a coffee and say, ‘Let me refresh myself. Let me just get away from the game a little bit.’ I think this is a huge factor, which should not be neglected. Because as much hard work as we’ve done to create this team, you don’t want players falling out because of mental pressures and not having the capacity or space to express themselves.”Kohli has often endorsed this view on mental health. Using his own mental troubles on the 2014 England tour as an example, he has spoken of a “strong need” for professional help in Indian cricket. As things stand, there has been no official move in that regard on the part of the BCCI but seated alongside India coach Ravi Shastri, Kohli said he believed it could become a priority.”And you’ll see it during the Test series,” Shastri said. “I’m not talking of the WTC, but if you add that as well – when you have to play five Test matches in this environment, in six weeks, it’s no joke. Even the fittest will need a break. More than the physical part, it’s the mental part. You can be destroyed mentally, being asked to do the same things day in, day out, and then go out and perform. And it’s not easy to recover, especially if you’ve had a bad day. So it’s important that you shuffle the guys around, and keep them mentally fresh. It’s not the physical part. You keep them mentally fresh – because of the circumstances.”Coincidentally, the structure of the England tour will allow Kohli and Co some time off•Getty Images

Coincidentally, the structure of this tour will allow India players time off and perhaps a lot more freedom of movement than the confines of the recently suspended IPL. While India was in the middle of an aggressive second wave when the tournament was called off, England recently recorded its first day without a Covid-related death in over a year, and vaccination has hit a steady pace. The WTC final ends on June 22, and the England series won’t begin until August 4.Kohli welcomed this break and said it wouldn’t affect any momentum they could pick up from the WTC final. The lack of cricket in the interim is not something they’re fazed by, he said, adding that preparation is “all in the head” if you’ve played in the conditions before, like most of the Indian team has – either at senior level or for India A.”I think it’s a great opportunity to refresh, restructure,” Kohli said. “Hopefully, if things are okay out in England, we would have finished our quarantine periods – [would be nice] just for the guys to be normal for a few days and just disconnect again, understanding the pressure of a five-match series. Like in Australia, if we had to compete inside a [biosecure] bubble for that long a period of time, the whole tour would have been very tough.”The fact that we had a little bit of freedom to go out and access the kind of things that the locals were, gave us a bit of space and time to reset and refresh. So I think it’s absolutely fine. It’ll give us time to regroup as a side and prepare again for a long series. That kind of setup is very important before you go into a lengthy series. We know that playing five Tests in England can be very challenging and daunting. So we want to have the most time before that series to set up for that series and be in the zone.”

West Brom hit gold on Hawthorns ace who’s now worth more than Thomas-Asante

Although still reeling from a mass exodus of top players this summer, West Bromwich Albion comfortable opening day win in the Championship, overcoming Marti Cifuentes' Queens Park Rangers on their own patch 3-1, was perhaps a tad surprising.

Josh Maja was the star of the show at Loftus Road, scoring a hat-trick after being gifted the starting spot up top by Carlos Corberan, and showed to the overjoyed West Brom masses in West London that losing Brandon Thomas-Asante doesn't have to be the end of the world.

Away from Maja, Tom Fellows also shone brightly against the Hoops, as the West Brom youth product aims to reach even higher heights than he managed last campaign when he broke into the first team and never looked back.

Fellows' time at West Brom

Fellows constantly terrorised the QPR defence last weekend to ensure West Brom comfortably picked up all three points ahead of their clash with Leeds yesterday.

It was Maja's second of the day that was all the 21-year-old's making, however, supplying the chance for his teammate to put away.

Moreover, the tenacious winger was brave and alert with five duels won in total, to give his side the energy they needed to push on to pick up the win.

His aim will just be to keep performing at this high level and strive to become an even more concrete part of Corberan's first-team plans going forward, having had his breakout moment in the spotlight last campaign.

Fellows would finish his promising 2023/24 season with five goals and four assists next to his name from 38 games in all competitions, having previously just starred at youth level for his boyhood employers, before finally going on to make the grade in the senior mix.

As a result, his transfer value for the West Midlands club has also risen, with his current price tag higher than that of Thomas-Asante's – according to Football Transfers – even with the former Baggies man recently winning himself a move to divisional rivals Coventry City.

Fellows' transfer value at West Brom

The standout Baggies prodigy is now worth in the region of £2.4m, with Thomas-Asante having been sold to the Sky Blues this summer for around £2m.

It's been quite the sharp rise for Fellows, who was once just a wide-eyed youngster shipped out on loan to League Two with Crawley Town, but there were signs he would eventually spark into life and become a top Championship performer in the fourth tier, with former Crawley coach Darren Byfield labelling him as "unbelievable" when the pair had previously worked together.

Only two years ago, before his rise to stardom in the first-team mix, Fellows was worth just £429k, and his value could soar way above £2.4m if he continues to be a star for West Brom this season, on the way to another promotion charge taking shape.

Whilst the youngster's value continues to go up and up, West Brom might have cashed in on Thomas-Asante at the perfect possible time, with his price-tag standing at a far higher £2.9m in March of this year, before tumbling down to a lesser £2.1m.

Brandon Thomas-Asante for West Brom.

The Baggies will continue to look for their next main man up top to complement Fellows' creativity, with Maja undoubtedly benefiting at this point in time, in the wake of Thomas-Asante leaving.

Whoever is chosen to be Corberan's next leading man going forward will love playing alongside Fellows you imagine, who will want to be a key player for his boyhood club moving forward after dazzling against QPR, as promotion is eyed up as the main objective once more.

Fabrizio Romano: New update on Mount’s future at Man Utd contrary to reports

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided a new update regarding Mason Mount's future at Manchester United, with a twist emerging.

Mount struggling to impress at Man United

The Englishman moved to Old Trafford during last year's summer transfer window, completing a big-money move from Chelsea and being considered an exciting piece of business, given the impact he had enjoyed at Stamford Bridge.

Mount's first season as a United player ended up being a hugely disappointing one, however, with his performances a long way short of their best, and injuries playing a big role in his struggles. In the end, he started just five matches in the Premier League, with only nine more coming from the substitutes' bench.

Manchester United player Mason Mount

The 25-year-old's lack of action ultimately cost him a place in England's Euro 2024 squad, having done nowhere near enough to justify being a part of Gareth Southgate's plans in Germany. In fact, some rumours have recently linked Mount with a quickfire move away from the Red Devils this summer, with the club believed to be open to selling him.

Now, a significant update has emerged over the midfielder's future at United – one that suggests things may pan out differently for him than has been predicted of late.

Romano drops update on Mount's Man Utd future

Taking to X on Saturday, Romano claimed that there is "no plan" for Manchester United to sell Mason Mount this summer, with the Englishman expected to stay put beyond the current transfer window:

While Mount's first year at United was unquestionably underwhelming, there is still a reason why they were willing to break the bank for him last summer, so persisting with him for at least another year makes sense.

The hope is that the influence of Sir Jim Ratcliffe is beneficial to the 36-time capped England international, with a more settled feeling at the club helping him find his best form, as well as bringing in the right players for him to bounce off in midfield areas.

At 25 years of age, Mount remains a relatively young player with lots to offer, and the fact that none other than Kylian Mbappe once described him as a "superb" footballer says a lot about his ability.

There is no doubt that more is needed from the former Chelsea ace moving forward, however, with more quality and intent needing to be shown in attacking midfield areas, but he has shown in the past what he is capable of, scoring 33 goals and registering 35 assists for the Blues. Should his second season at United also not work out, it would then be more understandable for the club to consider moving him on.

Pole position: Southampton lead race to sign 20 y/o midfielder for Martin

Southampton are "in pole position" to complete the signing of an award-winning international player in the summer transfer window, according to a fresh claim.

Southampton transfer news

The Saints are edging towards their first game back in the Premier League after a year away, with supporters hopeful that a new era under Russell Martin is only improving all the time. New signings are needed to ensure that happens, however, and the south coast club continue to be linked with players.

Southampton are believed to be in a strong position to sign Ben Breteton Diaz from Villarreal this summer, having spent last term on loan at Sheffield United. The Blades' relegation to the Championship back in May means the Chile international could remain in a top European league with Southampton, though.

Another rumoured Saints transfer target is Crystal Palace youngster Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who could be viewed as one for the future by Martin. He may also be considered someone who could shine alongside Adam Armstrong in attack, providing good service to the speedy striker.

Attacking players seems to be the order of the day for Southampton in the current transfer window, with West Brom's Brandon Thomas-Asante also linked with a switch to St Mary's before the 2024/25 season gets underway.

Southampton "in pole position" to sign 20 y/o

According to journalist Sebastien Denis on X, Southampton are also leading the way to sign Metz midfielder Lamine Camara this summer, with the French club rejecting a bid of more than €15m (£12.6m) from Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah. They've also seemingly turned down the "latest offer" from the Saints.

"Lamine Camara refused a crazy offer from Al Qadsiah who offered more than €15 million to Metz. The Senegal international wants to join the Premier League. Southampton are still in pole position to recruit one of L1's revelations but the latest offer submitted by the Saints does not suit FC Metz…"

Camara may not be the household name that some Saints supporters crave this summer, but that's not to say that he doesn't possess real pedigree as a footballer, not to mention being a young player with great potential.

The 20-year-old was voted the Best Young Player in the African Cup of Nations group stage earlier this year, scoring two goals in three appearances for Senegal in the competition. He already has 23 caps to his name for his country, scoring six times, and there is no reason why he shouldn't only improve in the coming years.

He wants to join: Southampton looking at “extraordinary” Adams upgrade

Southampton would get over the blow of Che Adams leaving a lot quicker if this star was to join soon.

Having enough firepower is essential for Southampton as they look to avoid a quickfire return to the Championship next season, and Camara is someone who can not only thrive in attack-minded midfield areas, but also play a more disciplined role in the middle of the park. Such versatility could appeal to Martin, as he looks to add as much depth as possible, making this one to watch.

Maratona Tricolor!
