According to , United approached Sporting about the 17-year-old – even before they moved to sign new manager Ruben Amorim. The report adds the Red Devils want to secure the teenager's services as soon as possible, with a summer transfer on the cards.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportTHE BIGGER PICTURE

The report adds that before Quenda signed a contract extension until 2027 in September, the forward had a release clause of €45 million (£38m/$47m) but that has since risen to a whopping €100m (£84m/$105m) – the same amount as team-mate Viktor Gyokeres. Sporting expect the player will be their next 'big sale' and initial bids to sign him will have to be well north of €40m (£33m/$42m).

WHAT RUBEN AMORIM SAID

Following his switch from Sporting to United earlier this month, Amorim denied he would snap up his former players in the next transfer window, saying: "I won't be signing [Sporting players] in January, that's what I said."

He added: “I don’t know about the summer. The main thing is to hold on until the summer [laughs]. After that, we’ll see, Sporting’s players are very good players. I don’t know. We’ll see.”

U.S. international Tyler Adams is finally back to club action with AFC Bournemouth after spending months in recovery from a back surgery following the 2024 Copa America. The midfielder made a late appearance as an 80th minute substitute and played a small part in the club's surprising 1-1 draw over third-placed Aston Villa.

With Bournemouth staring at a 1-0 defeat, Evanilson would deliver a crucial headed goal at the 90+6 mark of extra time – ensuring the Cherries would split the points at Villa Park.

Adams didn't have much time to make an impression but his return will only boost a Bournemouth side that have turned heads in Andoni Iraola's second season in charge.

The side, expected to be among the bottom half of the table, is currently 10th and have stunned top tier sides like Arsenal and now Aston Villa.

Adams, when healthy, is one of the top ball-winning midfielders in Europe. It will be interesting to see how he is integrated back into the squad as injuries limited him to just three league appearances last season.

Iraola actually played his final professional season in MLS as a member of the 2016 NYCFC squad, which finished second to the Eastern Conference-leading New York Red Bulls – a team that Adams was on.

While Adams and Iraola didn’t face each other that season — Adams was mainly starring for the Red Bulls' development team — both men have been part of the Hudson River Rivalry. Now, they work together in the Premier League.

Ex-England captain working with MessiFocused on commitments in FloridaTipped to become a knight at some stageFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Talk of the ex-England captain becoming a knight has raged since his playing days, with the iconic No.7 taking on a number of charitable roles before hanging up his boots. He has rubbed shoulders with royalty down the years, including King Charles and Prince William, but has never been invited to receive the most distinguished of individual honours.

Beckham does have an OBE and is expected to become Sir David at some stage. That may not happen until his commitments at MLS side Inter Miami – where is now working with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi – are reined in.

WHAT PAUL BURRELL SAID

Ex-royal staff member Paul Burrell, who was once butler to Princess Diana, has told : “We haven't seen [Beckham knighted] yet because A, he's not old enough and B, he hasn't earned his stripes yet and C, he's still in a very commercial world.

“David Beckham is everywhere. He's sponsoring and commercialising himself. Obviously, this is the end of his career. And once this phase is over, the commercial phase, and he goes back into charitable work because you've seen him with William, you've seen him with the King. He's obviously been fast tracked for a knighthood, but not just yet and they're keeping him just dangling for a while. Because, you know, they're waiting to see what happens.”

Burrell added: “I think he is an excellent ambassador, not only for charitable foundations, but for our country. I think he's shown his worth, and I'm expecting it. Of course it's going to happen. The question is, when. When will the King finally say it's time for David to receive his knighthood?

“I think he has to put some more work into the King's Trust, and I think he'll be seen many more times with the King and William before that honour comes his way. It's a much sought after honour, it's one that's eluded him, but it will come his way, he just has to be more patient. It's on its way. It’s not in the post yet, but it's on its way. His name is on the King’s desk!”

Man Utd struggling in the Premier LeagueFind themselves two points behind BrentfordFrank had Ten Hag's back before the pressFollow GOAL on WhatsApp! 🟢📱WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite United spending approximately £200 million ($261 million) during the summer transfer window to strengthen their squad, they find themselves in the lower half of the Premier League table after seven matches, sitting three places and two points behind Frank’s Brentford side.

Advertisement(C)Getty ImagesTHE BIGGER PICTURE

United’s disappointing run has included several poor results, with their most recent home match resulting in a humbling 3-0 defeat to Tottenham last month. This weekend's fixture against Brentford is the Red Devils' first at Old Trafford since that loss, and the pressure on Ten Hag has only increased as the team has struggled to find consistency. Following that defeat, United drew back-to-back matches, first against Porto in the Champions League and then at Aston Villa, before heading into the international break.

WHAT THOMAS FRANK SAID

Despite the dwindling results, Frank believes that the growing criticism aimed at Ten Hag is unwarranted.

"It's incredible how much scrutiny he's had to face," he said. "As a head coach, I acknowledge how it feels to be in a situation like this. I think [the criticism] is too much. He's clearly a good coach, he's won two trophies in two seasons.

"But I understand how it is: if the team wins, the head coach is absolutely fantastic; if the team loses, the head coach is absolutely sh*t! Whereas it's probably somewhere in between. It's never only the head coach, or the players, or the fans, or the board – it's a combination of all of these things."

Interestingly, Frank himself has been mentioned as a potential successor to Ten Hag should United decide to make a managerial change. However, the Brentford boss was quick to dismiss such talk. In a recent interview with , Frank reiterated his happiness at Brentford but left the door slightly open for future opportunities.

“I’ve said many times I’m very happy here,” he said. “Who knows what happens in the future? I’m open, but right now, I’m just working hard every day to make Brentford better.”

INEOS talk to 51 y/o over Man Utd return; Neville called exit a "travesty"

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are in contact to bring a Manchester United legend back to Old Trafford, according to a new report.

Man Utd manager rumours

The Red Devils are preparing for an FA Cup final against rivals Manchester City this weekend in what could prove to be Erik ten Hag‘s final game in charge.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag

There has been plenty of speculation over with Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio saying that a decision has already been made to say “goodbye to Ten Hag”. Publicly, Ratcliffe refused to give his backing to Ten Hag, saying:

"This is not about the manager, if you look at Manchester United in the last 11 years, it's not doing terribly, none of the managers have done terribly well. There's been some really good coaches that have come to Manchester United so you know the conclusion from that has to be that the environment for the coach has not been a successful one because none of them have been successful.

"And, you know, Erik's working in that same environment, so our focus is on how do we change that environment and the structure that provides the environment for the coach.”

"Can confirm" – Fabrizio Romano drops manager news he's heard from Man Utd

There have been rumours about Mauricio Pochettino.

ByCharlie Smith May 23, 2024

Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino, Kieran McKenna, Gareth Southgate and Roberto De Zerbi have all been linked with taking over from Ten Hag ahead of the 2024/25 season. Should one of the aforementioned bosses take charge, they could have some communication with former Man Utd defender Jaap Stam.

Man Utd in contact with Jaap Stam

According to reports in Italy, relayed by Sport Witness, Man Utd are in contact with Stam over an Old Trafford return. The 51-year-old has gone on to manage the likes of Reading, PEC Zwolle, Feyenoord and Cincinnati, but his potential return to Manchester wouldn’t be as a manager.

It is believed that United could offer Stam ‘a position which would be a link between the club and the technical staff’, potentially talking to players who could report any issues. A move at this moment in time is being ‘evaluated’, so it looks that everything is at an early stage.

Stam spent three years at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson between 1998-2001, playing his part in the famous treble-winning campaign. However, he was sold to Lazio, a decision which Gary Neville recently called a “massive shock” and a “travesty”.

However, it looks as if he could soon return to Old Trafford, making this situation one to keep an eye on, alongside a potential new manager of course.

Pochettino livid with Chelsea board ready to green-light £50 million sale

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is said to be upset with the board, as they're ready to green-light the sale of a key star this summer amid PSR concerns.

Pochettino praises Chelsea form as European football possible

The mood around Stamford Bridge has been lifted somewhat recently, with Pochettino overseeing a good run of form and qualification for next season's Europa Conference League – or even better – now in their grasp.

Talks ongoing as Chelsea ready £65 million bid to sign Real Madrid target

ByEmilio Galantini May 14, 2024

While a section of supporters would still like to see Pochettino replaced ahead of 2024/2025, if Chelsea decide to stick with the Argentine past their end-of-season review next week, there is certainly something to build upon.

Chelsea have lost just once in the Premier League since mid-February, winning eight out of their last 14 top flight matches and drawing the other five.

Brighton 1-2 Chelsea

Nottingham Forest 2-3 Chelsea

Chelsea 5-0 West Ham

Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham

Aston Villa 2-2 Chelsea

The vast majority of their victories in that time have come at home, but Chelsea's form on the road is now showing signs of improvement with consecutive away wins at the expense of Nottingham Forest and Brighton.

Following their latest triumph at the Amex Stadium on Wednesday evening, with the Blues sealing a 2-1 victory against Brighton thanks to goals from Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku, Pochettino has praised Chelsea's recent performances.

"Full credit to the players, we fully deserved the victory, that's why I'm so happy and it allows us to dream to play in Europe next season," said Pochettino to Sky Sports (via TNT).

"We need to think about recovery and keep the mentality of going to win and see what happens. The most important thing is belief and performances and the performances and results are really good. We dominated from the beginning against a team that's not easy to play, that's why we're so proud and so happy. The evolution of the team is there."

If Chelsea do seal a Conference League place for next term, which looks pretty likely barring a final day disaster, Pochettino will need summer backing in the transfer market with the extra layer of games.

It is believed Pochettino personally wants Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo to replace Thiago Silva, as the 52-year-old makes plans despite some uncertainty regarding his future. However, there is the club's potential PSR battle to consider, and Pochettino could end up waving goodbye to a host of star players as Todd Boehly looks to balance the books by June 30.

Pochettino livid with Chelsea board ready to green-light Gallagher sale

Boehly has already been forced into selling Armando Broja at a discounted rate, down from his £50 million price tag in January, with TEAMtalk now sharing an update on Conor Gallagher.

They claim Pochettino is "fuming" with the Chelsea board ready to sanction Gallagher's sale – despite his importance to the team. They're demanding around £50 million to let him go, which would go on the books as pure profit, and their London rivals are taking note of this situation.

It's added this feud between Pochettino and Chelsea chiefs could add fuel to the fire regarding his tenuous position as head coach, with the end of season review looking even more crucial now.

Which football teams do Premier League referees support?

Premier League referees have a great deal of influence on match results, since they are the arbiters of the beautiful game and the keepers of justice. But, what everyone often wants to know is which football teams these officials root for.

There has been plenty of controversy since VAR was introduced from red cards for kicking the ball away in 2024/25 – we’re looking at you Declan Rice – to Nottingham Forest going as far as to inferring that Stuart Attwell’s apparent allegiances to Luton Town influenced him to turn down three penalty decisions against Everton in April 2024.

Forest were notably on the wrong end of some key decisions in 2023/24, even hiring Mark Clattenburg as a Referee Analyst in a bid to get more clarity on officiating at the highest level. He has now left that post.

While VAR has got no better and the officiating goes from bad to worse, here is a look at every Premier League referee with known allegiances to other clubs…

£40,000-per-week star hints at exit after claim Arsenal are preparing a bid

A club's star player has hinted at a potential summer exit, with Arsenal thought to be very interested in securing a deal for the star.

Edu planning to sign new striker for Arsenal this summer

Sporting director Edu is set to try and bring in a world-class new forward option at the Emirates Stadium when the window reopens, with reliable media sources like Fabrizio Romano claiming this will indeed be the case.

Arsenal ready to sell Gabriel Jesus and replace him with £43 million star

Arsenal are looking to part ways with Gabriel Jesus this summer.

ByJosh Barker May 5, 2024

Both Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus face uncertain futures at Arsenal, despite the pair standing out as Mikel Arteta's only natural senior striking options. The form of Kai Havertz in a makeshift forward role has thrown the latter's place into question, and some reports suggest Arsenal are ready to sell Jesus this summer and bring in a replacement.

The Gunners' current attackers haven't exactly failed to impress over 2023/2024, with no Premier League side scoring more goals than Arsenal this season. However, with Jesus and Nketiah potentially departing, the addition of a prolific alternative could be needed.

A few big names have been linked with moves to north London, as Arteta seeks an outstanding natural new number nine. Arsenal are in the race to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, with Edu also registering interest in Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee.

“We still can't rule out Arsenal in the race for Osimhen," said journalist Ben Jacobs recently.

"It’s also true that PSG have Osimhen very, very high on their list of targets and can move in the market because they will free up money due to Kylian Mbappe’s departure. I'm still told by sources that Osimhen’s priority is the Premier League, which is encouraging for Chelsea and Arsenal. He would be looking for about £250,000 per week, which Arsenal, Chelsea and PSG would all be happy to pay.”

Another very interesting target is Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres, who has enjoyed the season of his life after making the move to Portugal from Coventry City last year.

Viktor Gyokeres in action for Sporting

Called "unplayable" by former Coventry teammates, the £40,000-per-week Sweden international has bagged a quite incredible 41 goals and 15 assists across 47 games in all competitions this season.

His form has led to reports that Arsenal are preparing a bid for Gyokeres this summer, though it is unclear whether they'd be willing to pay his seismic £86 million release clause.

Gyokeres hints at possible summer exit as Arsenal allegedly prepare offer

Speaking to the press this week, Gyokeres has now hinted at a possible exit from Sporting, as Arsenal apparently target him.

“Stay next season? It's football, it's normal, I can't promise anything,” he is quoted as saying by A Bola (via Standard Sport).

“I really like being here, but in football everything happens very fast and we have to adapt. I can't make so many predictions, it's difficult, there are still games this season, then we'll see."

Even though there is a case to be made that the Premier League is a much more competitive division than the Primeira Liga, over 40 goals is impressive no matter where you're playing, so he could definitely bolster Arteta's ranks.

Trent Boult confident of making 'dream' Boxing Day appearance

Trent Boult is confident he will be able to take his place in the Boxing Day Test and the dream not afford to New Zealand for more than 30 years.Boult missed the opening Test in Perth having not recovered sufficiently from the side strain he picked up against England – a call he made himself to admit he wasn’t ready – but is increasing his workload as the squad prepares in Melbourne. They have a two-day game against a Victoria XI later this week where Boult hopes to get three or four spells under his belt with the slightly longer break between the first two Tests working in his favour.”It’s about being confident with the overs under my belt and having enough behind me,” he said. “Feel like I’m in that place and ticking the right boxes. It’s a day-by-day thing, it’s about getting through each session. As I’m tracking right now, touch wood it keeps going that way. I’m very eager to get out there.”It’s nice to have seven or eight days. I’ll be using it the best I can. It will be nice to get some cricket but guess they’ll make a call as late as they can.”New Zealand have not played a Boxing Day Test since the 1987-88 tour when they came within one wicket of levelling the series only to be denied by a dodgy umpiring decision and Mike Whitney. Boult has only played twice at the MCG, once in the 2015 World Cup final and another ODI in 2016, but wants to use the significance of the occasion, which is expected to see an influx of New Zealand support, as motivation.”I don’t really want to ignore it, I want to embrace it, appreciate that stage for what it is,” he said. “Test cricket is my favourite format and this is a stage a lot of people dream of being on so to get this opportunity in my career is definitely something I’m looking forward to. If I can tick all the right boxes with my body, I can’t wait.”Boult is likely to be a straight swap in the XI for the injured Lockie Ferguson whose tour was ended by the calf strain he picked up on the opening day in Perth. The uncapped Kyle Jamieson has been called up and joins Matt Henry as the reserve pacemen.Neil Wagner and Tim Southee put in a huge shift during the opening Test after Ferguson’s injury, bowling 60 and 51.3 overs respectively, taking 16 of the 19 Australia wicket to fall.Jeet Raval is facing the axe after two failures in Perth to continue his poor run of form which would mean a recall for Tom Blundell and a potential reshuffle of the batting. Mitchell Santner’s position may also come under scrutiny after he went wicketless through 41 overs and struggled to tie down Australia’s batsmen.
