It was also Ireland’s first-ever win over South Africa.South Africa stumbled from 77 for 4 to 95 all out, losing six wickets for 18 runs, all between overs 16 and 20. Trisha Chetty, the only batsman to score more than 20, top-scored with 28, in an innings in which the highest partnership was worth only 19 runs.Four South African batsmen, including Chetty, were run out as Ireland completed a win with three balls left in the match. Kim Garth picked up 2 for 12 in her four overs while every other Ireland bowler, except Amy Kenealy, picked up a wicket apiece.Ireland’s total of 115 for 7, after they were put in to bat, may have seemed below par at the halfway stage given how well their openers, Clare Shillington and Gaby Lewis, began the innings. The pair added 78 in 13 overs before Shillington fell for a 41-ball 48 that included six fours and a six. In the next over, medium-pacer Marcia Letsoalo struck twice in the space of five balls to dismiss Lewis and Jennifer Gray and Ireland slipped further when Isobel Joyce was run out for 1 in the 15th over.Garth and Shauna Kavanagh added 24 for the fifth wicket and took Ireland past the 100-run mark, but their dismissals in the last two overs limited the side’s chances of a few extra runs at the end.The two sides will square off in the first of four ODIs in Dublin on Friday.

Arsenal Keen On "Electrifying" £65m Dynamo

Arsenal will be back amongst Europe’s elite next season, having qualified for the Champions League due to their excellent performances in the Premier League.

They may, of course, still win the title, but with Manchester City a point ahead and with a game in hand, Mikel Arteta may just have to settle for second spot and the chance to spend the summer transfer window strengthening his side ahead of another tilt next term.

The Spaniard appears to already be making a head start on improving his squad before 2023/24, with the Gunners reportedly interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, according to the Evening Standard.

It’s stated that the club looked at Diaby during January, but the Bundesliga side were reluctant to let him go mid-season. However, a move is more realistic during the summer, with the player expected to cost around £65m.

Given their preparations for the Champions League, the 23-year-old could be an excellent addition to Arteta’s team and would certainly give them something extra as they will face tougher opposition in Europe next season.

Could Arsenal sign Moussa Diaby this summer?

A return to the Champions League after six seasons away will help the club secure higher-profile targets, and this will certainly boost Arteta’s squad.

Diaby has shone since arriving in Germany from Paris Saint-Germain four years ago, scoring 49 goals and grabbing 48 assists – excellent numbers for a winger. This proves he can be not only a wonderful goal threat, but create countless opportunities for his teammates.

He has been described as “electrifying” due to his pace by journalist Aaron Stokes, while analytics site FBref considers him statistically similar to Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr, which could be an excellent omen for the Gunners.

According to FBref, the Brazilian sensation is the third-most similar player to Diaby across Europe’s big five leagues, and given the impact he has had at Real Madrid over the previous few seasons – including scoring the winner in the Champions League final last term – it’s not a bad comparison to have.

This season has seen Vinicius and Diaby register impressive stats with regard to goals (ten to nine), goal-creating actions (21 to 16), crosses (91 to 60) and progressive carries (210 to 117), suggesting that they offer a dangerous threat from a wide position.

Moussa Diaby

While Vinicius Jr has the statistical edge over the Frenchman, he has evolved into one of the finest talents on the continent, while there may be some benefit to playing for Real Madrid – so there is every chance Diaby can grow his game even further if he made the move to join Arsenal.

It may cost the club £65m, yet it would be a wise investment indeed.

Liverpool Must Unleash World-Class Star Vs Leeds

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping Liverpool can return to winning ways against Leeds United this evening following a run of five matches without a win since their incredible 7-0 drubbing of Manchester United at the start of March.

To say it has been a transitional season for the Reds would be putting it politely, with Klopp’s men so far off the pace in the Premier League they may not even secure European football next season.

A 2-2 draw against Arsenal last time out was a solid enough result, although the German could switch things up slightly as the Anfield side make the short trip to Elland Road and three points would cut the gap to six points to fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Curtis Jones didn’t have the best of matches against the Gunners, ranking as statistically the second-worst performer for the club behind Virgil van Dijk with a Sofascore rating of 6.2/10.

He lost possession 13 times during his 60-minute spell on the pitch while winning just three duels and completing only 26 passes, and it’s clear that Klopp needs to replace him ahead of tonight’s tie.

With the news that Thiago is fit and ready, this should be enough for the 55-year-old to ditch Jones and slot the Spaniard into the heart of the Liverpool midfield for the first time since February.

Will Thiago start for Liverpool against Leeds United?

The 31-year-old made an appearance from the substitutes bench against Arsenal, his first league outing since being ruled out two months ago, and it’s evident that Klopp needs to unleash him from the first whistle tonight.

He has only played 15 times in the Premier League this term, yet he is currently the second-best performer in the squad, as per Sofascore's rating system, proving just how important he is when he starts.

The former Barcelona midfielder will be crucial in terms of Liverpool keeping the ball against Leeds. He has averaged 80.9 touches per game this season and has a pass success rate of 86% while making 1.1 key passes per game, suggesting he can also create chances for his teammates too.

Thiago for Liverpool

Thiago has been lauded as “world-class” by former footballer George Chomakov and this is certainly justified by his statistics across Europe’s big five leagues where he ranks in the top 10% for pass completion rate, progressive passes, tackles and interceptions compared to positional peers.

If Klopp wants to add some extra dynamism and bite into the Liverpool midfield, Thiago should be the first name on the team sheet, helping to the club to three points this evening.

Aston Villa interested in signing Correa

Aston Villa are interested in a move to bring Inter Milan forward Joaquin Correa to the Premier League, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Senior attacker required

Following the departure of Danny Ings in January, Unai Emery moved to replace him with Jhon Duran, but being just 19 years of age, the boss is likely to be in the market for a more senior replacement and has identified the 28-year-old as an ideal candidate.

The Argentinian international’s contract at the San Siro isn’t due to expire until 2025, but having made just four starts this season in the Serie A under Simone Inzaghi, has fallen out of favour.

Emery already came close to working with the striker before having arrived at Sevilla shortly after the boss departed in 2016 but it appears that he’s now planning to try and capture him himself.

The Latest: Villa eyeing Correa

According to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), West Ham United are currently in ‘pole position’ to sign Correa but are set to face ‘competition’ for his signature from Aston Villa.

The Midlands outfit are ‘lurking’ in the background and have already ‘expressed interest’, though it’s made clear that they would have to ‘rebuild him both physically and mentally’.

Inter are reportedly ready to ‘offload’ him in the summer with a sale being sanctioned ‘increasingly probable’, and the two clubs mentioned are ‘very wealthy’.

It’s believed that the attacker ‘wouldn’t mind a different challenge’ regarding a move to England after the last two ‘unforgettable’ seasons.

The Verdict: Potential bargain

Inter Milan wanting to get rid of Correa may mean that they are willing to let him go at a cut price so Aston Villa would be getting a bargain should they secure his services for a reduced fee.

The 6 foot 2 colossus has posted 102 goal contributions (63 goals and 39 assists) in 346 career appearances and ranks in the 99th percentile for pass completion, highlighting how prolific he is in the final third and how strong his link-up play is with his fellow teammates.

The Juan Bautista Alberdi would also bring plenty of versatility to Villa Park having played in six different positions since emerging onto the scene, including out wide on both flanks and at centre-forward.

Finally, Correa has been dubbed a ‘formidable’ player by his manager Simone Inzaghi and he has all of the qualities to fit the profile of striker that Emery has been looking for.

Spurs should hire Vincent Kompany

TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur should consider Burnley manager Vincent Kompany as a replacement for Antonio Conte.

What’s going on with Conte at Spurs?

The Italian has come in for criticism, with Spurs set for another year without winning a trophy, and he looks ready to depart with his contract running out at the end of the season.

With Spurs still in the race for a top-four spot, there have even been calls to sack Conte now, with it unlikely that he will have a successful future at the club.

Mauricio Pochettino has been mooted for a possible return to the club, but Cascarino has claimed that former Manchester City defender Kompany should be targeted by Spurs instead.

Speaking on TalkSport, Cascarino praised the job Kompany has done at Burnley and stated that Spurs should make him their top candidate to replace Conte.

He said: “I think if they do lose Conte, which looks pretty much like it’s going to happen in the summer, there’s one person that stands out for me, and it’s Vincent Kompany.”He stands out, for me, as the one to jump the queue and get in, because I’ve listened to his team-talks, you can look at how he’s changed the football club so dramatically in a very short space of time.”The Burnley fans will hate me but will love the way that he’s producing the team to play football, how exciting they’ve been.”You’ve got to try and find someone that ticks a lot of boxes, and I think the way he conducts himself – he’s done a lot of stuff in Anderlecht in Belgium, he retired young enough, he’s smart enough.”He’s a captain, he’s a leader – and leaders do lead – and I think he ticks all them boxes.”If I was Daniel Levy and I was really looking for a guy I could get, he would be top of my hit list, he really would. I think what he’s done at Burnley is nothing short of incredible.”Would Kompany join Spurs?Given that Burnley look set to reach promotion back to the Premier League, Kompany could continue his project at Turf Moor in the top flight, with his side currently flying high at the top of the Championship. He may not wish to move to a bigger club too early in his managerial career for risk of failure, particularly given that proven coaches such as Jose Mourinho and Conte have failed at Spurs in recent years.Kompany could be a smart appointment, and one comparable to Arsenal appointing Mikel Arteta as a younger coach who has learnt from Pep Guardiola. If he does choose to move to north London, he could be a good long-term hire for the club if Daniel Levy and ENIC back him with players fit for the present and future, in a similar way to how Arteta has built a young squad at Arsenal to compete at the top.If Kompany does join and it does not pan out as expected, his reputation as a manager could take a blow. It would be a huge risk, but perhaps one worth taking for Spurs.

Leeds: Ayling could improve under Iraola

Leeds United are still without a permanent manager to take over from Jesse Marsch at Elland Road, with former youth coach Michael Skubala taking the reins for forthcoming fixtures.

The caretaker has given glimpses of his capabilities when he led the Whites to a draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford last week, and he has been confirmed as the coach who will lead the team in their must-win relegation six-pointer against Everton at Goodison Park this weekend.

The Whites are teetering on the edge of the Premier League relegation zone, just one point clear of Saturday’s opponents in 18th, so it will be imperative that Skubala picks up the crucial points needed to widen the gap between Leeds and the jaws of potential relegation back to the Championship.

As a result, the precarious position in which they find themselves will require caution from the powerbrokers at the club when appointing the next permanent manager should they do so before the end of the season, as the wrong appointment could be an absolute disaster and cause major uproar should it lead to the drop.

A silver lining has emerged, though, with stalwart Luke Ayling signing a contract extension to remain at the West Yorkshire club until the summer of 2024, which means the new manager will have the experienced right-back at his disposal whenever they take charge at Elland Road.

One manager who has been linked with the head coach vacancy this week is Andoni Iraola, as the Elland Road hierarchy continue talks with the Rayo Vallecano manager, who is set to be out of contract with the Spanish club this summer.

Could Iraola get the best out of Ayling?

The 40-year-old has had a limited managerial career so far, although his invaluable experience as a player could be hugely valuable to Ayling over the remainder of his time at Leeds.

Iraola was a combative right-back in his playing career, tallying 551 appearances, 38 goals and 47 assists. Most of his playing time was earned with Athletic Bilbao, completing 12 years of service with the Basque club before moving onto New York City FC, playing under Patrick Vieira.

The now-Crystal Palace manager held his former player in high regard in terms of his presence on the pitch when coaching him in the latter stages of career in America, saying of Iraola’s qualities: “A lot of players get a lot of credit but the work he does on and off the field deserves recognition.

“There are players who work really hard for the team but never get mentioned and those kind of guys are really quite special because they sacrifice themselves for the team. Andoni is the perfect image of a team player – everyone loves him on and off the field.”

Across 31 MLS appearances in his final season in New York, Iraola tallied a pass completion rate of 87%, registered one assist and completed 72% of his dribbles, along with averaging 56.6 touches, 38 accurate passes, 1.4 interceptions, 2.2 tackles and four successful duels per game, proving to be a huge presence on the pitch right up until he ended his playing career.

The Spaniard could channel that experience, quality and work rate into Ayling by coaching the Leeds stalwart to improve his game even further and give the team their best chance at competing comfortably should they remain in the top flight next season.

If Leeds could secure the prospective appointment of Iraola, it could be massively advantageous to Ayling to have a coach with an expert knowledge of his position and teach him a few things about that particular role in the team.

Man United: ETH can bin Martial for Osimhen

Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against bitter rivals Leeds United exposed a notable concern for Erik ten Hag at present, with the lack of a quality number nine having been laid bare as a result of Wout Weghorst’s limp display.

The January arrival – who was described as “really poor” on the night by journalist Samuel Luckhurst – has featured heavily in recent weeks as a result of the continued injury woes of fellow centre-forward Anthony Martial, with the long-serving Frenchman simply unable to stay fit for a consistent period.

While that may be through no fault of his own, it is growing rather tedious that the 27-year-old is frequently absent from the matchday squad, having now made just 14 appearances in all competitions this season, with only nine of those coming from the start.

Although Ten Hag only recently admitted that his team play their “best football” with the former Monaco gen on the field, the lingering frustration is that the £250k-per-week dud is simply too often unavailable for selection.

Even when the 30-cap marksman he has featured, he has still underwhelmed somewhat, with the “lazy” forwards – as described by journalist Josh Bunting – having scored just eight goals in the Premier League since the start of the 2020/21 campaign (less than half of what he managed in 2019/20 alone).

As The Athletic’s Carl Anka pointed out, it is now more than two years since the struggling hotshot last completed 90 minutes in the top flight, with a club harbouring ambitions of returning to trophy-winning standards in need of a far more reliable goalscoring presence.

The Old Trafford outfit could well find their ideal candidate to fill that role in the form of Napoli sensation Victor Osimhen, with The Telegraph’s James Ducker reporting that Ten Hag is “weighing up” a possible move for either the Nigerian ace or Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane.

Should the Dutchman opt to snap up the former Lille predator this summer, he would be securing the services of a player who is in simply sensational form at present, with the 24-year-old having scored 16 goals in just 17 Serie A games this season.

The 6 foot 1 speedster was described by journalist Gianni Visnadi as a “crazy” talent and a “jewel” who has the ability to do “things that others don’t even think about”, having only recently produced a moment of “Pele style” magic – according to Napoli and Brazil legend Antonio Careca – to score in the win over Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

The “brilliant madman”, as described by Visnadi, has been integral to helping to steer Luciano Spalletti’s side to the top of the table, hence the lack of surprise that he could command a fee of at least £100m come the end of the season.

That price tag has been warranted by the prolific form that Osimhen has showcased throughout his career so far, having scored 83 goals in 173 games across spells in Italy, France, Belgium and Germany, with only his brief stint at Wolfsburg – in which he failed to score – proving something of a letdown.

By contrast Martial has racked up 369 club career appearances to date and boasts a tally of 101 goals in that time, having only reached double figures for league goals during his time in England on three occasions. Osimhen has now done that for five seasons running.

Amid reports from Manchester Evening News that the injury-prone Frenchman could be moved on by Ten Hag ahead of next season after almost eight years at the club, his exit could well be hastened if United can get a deal for Osimhen wrapped up.

Everton set to sign Arnaut Danjuma

Everton have been linked with a move for Arnaut Danjuma over the last few weeks and now a major new update has emerged from a reliable source on the club’s pursuit of the player.

What’s the latest?

Italian journalist and transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Villarreal winger is now set for a medical with the club today ahead of joining the club on loan for the rest of the season.

Romano tweeted: “EXCL: Danjuma to Everton, here we go! Full agreement reached during the night and details now sorted. It’s done deal, Danjuma’s back to Premier League 🚨🚨🔵 #EFC”

“Understand the medical tests will take place on Saturday morning. Straight loan from Villarreal, NO buy option.”

It could save Lampard’s job

There is no doubt that Frank Lampard will be feeling the pressure as he heads into the Premier League clash with West Ham United this afternoon, however, the signing of Danjuma could be the linchpin in saving the manager’s job at Goodison Park.

The talented winger has been in the UK speaking with a number of clubs about a loan move ahead of the second half of the season including Nottingham Forest and his former club Bournemouth, but it now looks like he will imminently be announced as the latest player to join the relegation scrap on the blue side of Merseyside.

The Toffees are currently 19th in the top-flight table ahead of their game with the Hammers in East London, with just 15 points collected and 15 goals scored over their first 19 outings, so strengthening the attacking threat will be essential if they are to have any hope of retaining their Premier League status at the end of the campaign.

Over 217 career appearances, Danjuma has scored 73 goals and registered 36 assists with a goal contribution every 128 minutes so far – proving that he could be a hugely valuable asset to Lampard if he can continue his rate of consistency in front of goal.

The 25-year-old Dutchman has been the recipient of high praise for his potent attacking skills, with pundit Kevin Phillips hailing Danjuma “a nightmare for defenders” whilst analysing the player’s qualities:

“On his day he is a nightmare for defenders. He can create and score goals. He can hurt any defence with his pace and directness.”

“I know it was in the Championship but he’s proved he can perform in this country.”

“He is a player who can hurt any defence on his day. He’s shown that countless times. Players like him are a rarity in this day and age.”

With that being said, the signing of Danjuma would be a major coup for Everton and could give Lampard a player who can make a genuine impact in his pursuit to save the club from a spell in the Championship next season.
