West Ham United: Fans in meltdown at latest from ExWHUemployee

Flocking to Twitter, a number of West Ham fans have gone into meltdown following a deadline day update from Hammers insider ExWHUemployee.

The Athletic’s West Ham correspondent Roshane Thomas has reported that as it stands, the Hammers are not expecting to sign a player this window.

This comes following numerous transfer links, many of which have come in the past week, with a number of deals seemingly close to being agreed.

Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car was one deal fans expected to go through following multiple discussions between the two clubs. However, the negotiations came to a halt as an agreement could not be made regarding the structure of the deal. West Ham were looking for a loan deal with an option to buy, whereas Marseille were demanding a permanent sale.

Just today West Ham had a bid rejected for Benfica star Darwin Nunez, as the club looked to bolster their attacking options with a new striker. It was thought that the club were considering an improved offer, but it appears unlikely that this eventuality materialises.

West Ham fans fume at Ex’s post

A Hammers fan shared The Athletic’s report on Twitter, asking popular insider ExWHUemployee for confirmation of the news.

Ex confirmed the news, saying: “That’s my feeling at this point yes. Unless something dramatic changes.”

Fans flooded the comments with hysteria, with many entering into meltdown following the club’s lack of transfer activity. Here’s what some of them had to say…

LFC dealt potential double injury blow

Coming off the back of two impressive wins against Arsenal in the Premier League and FC Porto in the Champions League, scoring six goals and keeping two clean sheets in the process, Liverpool are back in action once again this weekend with a league clash at home against Southampton.

Unfortunately for Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, it seems as though he will have to work around the fact that he will be without two key senior players on this occasion.

What’s the news?

It has recently been reported by the Liverpool Echo, prior to Klopp’s press conference, that Reds duo Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita were not seen in the club’s Thursday training session and are presumably unexpected to feature in the clash against the Saints, which would surely have Klopp fuming.

Both players have been suffering from hamstring injuries with Keita’s coming during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion and Firmino’s in their 2-0 home win against Atletico Madrid.

In addition to Keita and Firmino, the report also claims that Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez were also not involved in the latest training session.

Keita and Firmino have managed to rack up six goals and two assists between them in the Premier League so far this season, showing how useful they have been in an attacking sense alongside the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah who have 18 league goals between them.

Looking ahead to the Southampton game, if the pair aren’t fit enough to play, Klopp will be left hoping that the likes of Mane and Salah will be able to secure victory against a stubborn Southampton defence which has only conceded three more goals than the Reds at this stage of the season.

Liverpool’s two previous games may have shown that they may not necessarily be struggling without the injured duo. However, given the hefty number of fixtures coming up for the Reds across the Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup, Klopp will undoubtedly be hoping that they will be able to make full recoveries sooner rather than later so that he has more options at his disposal and more opportunities to rotate his players and give some a rest if they need it.

West Ham fans flock to Arthur Cabral update

Flocking to Twitter, many West Ham United fans have erupted over a fresh transfer claim involving FC Basel forward Arthur Cabral.

The Brazilian has emerged as a transfer target for both Irons manager David Moyes and new recruitment chief Rob Newman in recent weeks as they expand their search for more attacking options.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-developments-2/” title=”West Ham developments” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Cabral has been in red-hot form for the Swiss giants over 2021/22 so far, racking up an incredible 17 goals and four assists across 19 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

This has attracted West Ham’s interest amid their year-long search for a replacement for Sebastien Haller, with journalist Andre Oechsner now sharing an update on their bid.

Speaking to Hammers News, the correspondent for Swiss media outlet 4-4-2 explained that a €20m (£17m) offer has come from the Premier League and his ‘sources’ tell him its ‘probably’ West Ham.

West Ham fans erupt…

Taking to social media, it’s little wonder so many Irons supporters are excited about this reveal, taking into account Cabral’s prolific goalscoring record, age and his inclusion in the Brazil squad in recent months.

The 23-year-old earned his first Selecao call-up in October, with his electric form attracting the attention of Brazil general manager and former Middlesbrough star Juninho (TEAMtalk).

As their club potentially make an offer, there have been no shortage of reaction from West Ham fans – check out some of the best responses below:

Man Utd fans fume at Fernandes display

A number of Manchester United supporters have been left fuming at Bruno Fernandes’ ineffective performance against Newcastle United on Monday night.

Ralf Rangnick’s side returned to Premier League action after 16 days without a game, as they looked to respond to wins for the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham in the race for top four.

It proved to be a hugely disappointing evening at St James’ Park, however, with Newcastle the better team for much of the night and deservedly taking home a point.

[freshpress-poll id=“378953″]

It was a match that saw numerous United players underperform but Fernandes was arguably the worst of the lot, giving the ball away an eye-watering 26 times (Sofascore), by far the most on the pitch.

Gary Neville was unhappy with the former Sporting CP man’s whinging towards the younger players, criticising both Portuguese superstars after a bad night at the office for Cristiano Ronaldo too (Sky Sports).

Man United fans fume at Fernandes display

These United fans took to Twitter to lay into his woeful display.

“Anyway that was a disgrace. We lucky to get a draw. Attack has been abysmal for so long now. Can’t keep relying on Ronaldo. Bruno and Rashford are my favourites players but good lord they’ve been horrendous for so long”

“Bruno Fernandes is a disgrace, take him off”

“Bruno Fernandes has lost possession 52 times in his last two games vs relegation fodder. I’m a fan of Fernandes however he simply cannot be so careless in possession. There’s a difference between risk-taking and carelessness. 60 yard passes fall in the latter”

“These days Bruno Fernandes doesn’t read well before making a long pass he just play it anyhow. Playing silly passes over and over again”

“I tweeted it before game man Bruno has been woeful glad he’s suspended he needs to see the bench. Rashford has been abysmal also let’s hope for a reaction Thursday”

Celtic: Mechelen in talks over Shved deal

KV Mechelen are in talks with Celtic over a summer deal for winger Marian Shved.

That’s according to a report in the Daily Record [print edition 20/3/21, p.60], cited by 67 Hail Hail.

The 23-year-old has impressed on loan with the Belgian side, especially since the turn of the New Year, making 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring four times and registering three assists.

Shved, who is on the same wages as David Turnbull (£7,500 per week), is under contract with the Hoops until 2023.

He has only made three appearances for the club since his £1.8m move to Glasgow in 2019, and it seems as if he could be leaving Parkhead for good over the coming months.

Transfer Tavern take

Shved may not be the only Celtic player to complete a permanent move to Belgium this summer. Hoops defender Jack Hendry has also starred in the Jupiler Pro League with Oostende, who appear to be keen on activating an option-to-buy clause at the end of the current campaign.

It seems as if there will be a major Parkhead rebuild both on and off the pitch over the coming months, and moving on the likes of Shved and Hendry could be just the beginning.

Wolves: When Ocampos terrorised Nuno and co

When it comes to Wolverhampton Wanderers’ summer transfer plans, they are focused solely on improving their attack.

You can hardly blame Jeff Shi’s thought process. With Raul Jimenez missing since November, the Old Gold have looked a shadow of their former selves.

The Mexican has been out with a fractured skull, which has left Wolves to fall into the bottom half of the Premier League.

New signing Willian Jose is yet to score since penning terms in January while Fabio Silva’s £35.6m price tag has not been worth it; he has netted only twice since arriving.

The likes of Goncalo Guedes and Trincao have been linked but it’s Lucas Ocampos who stands proud as one of their most attractive targets.

Boasting a release clause of £62m, he presumably won’t come cheap, but judging by his previous accomplishments, he’d be an excellent pickup for Wolves.

The Argentine has scored seven times in 2020/21, providing four assists in the process. It’s hardly a surprise that Shi and Nuno Santo are interested in prising him away from Sevilla, however.

That’s because Ocampos demonstrated firsthand what he can do when the Spanish outfit defeated Wolves in Europe last season. Sevilla ultimately knocked the Old Gold out of the Europa League and it was largely thanks to the flying Argentine.

Playing on the left-hand side at the MSV-Arena in Duisburg, Ocampos tore Wolves to shreds and gave Matt Doherty a particularly tough evening.

The 26-year-old scored the goal which separated the two sides, while he was a constant menace with the ball at his feet.

Ocampos completed an eye-catching five dribbles during the contest, a number which happened to usurp Adama Traore’s tally on the night. That is certainly no easy achievement.

On top of that, Ocampos provided two crosses and managed four shots during his time on the field. Doherty had a night to forget as he was constantly pressured by the Wolves target.

The Irishman completed only 55% of his passes and failed to block a single shot from the boot of Ocampos. He did manage four successful tackles but that was indicative of what the Sevilla winger was doing to him.

Based on that night back in August, the 26-year-old would be a wonderful acquisition for Wolves.

AND in other news, Wolves could find big Adama upgrade in “unpredictable” gem with a £427m release clause…

Man Utd boosted in efforts to sign De Jong

Manchester United have been boosted in their efforts to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer following a fresh transfer update.

The Lowdown: United linked with De Jong move

Erik ten Hag has been confirmed as the Red Devils’ new manager ahead of next season, with the Dutchman hopefully making numerous good signings in the summer as they look to improve drastically in the Premier League.

One player with whom United have been linked is De Jong, with the 24-year-old impressing for Barcelona this season, chipping in with three goals and three assists in La Liga.

A fresh update further suggests that Ten Hag could get his man, with the pair having worked together during a successful spell at Ajax.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-29/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Journalist provides De Jong update

Speaking on El Chiringuito [via Barca Universal],  journalist Jose Alvarez claimed that Barca would be happy to let De Jong leave if a €70m (£58.9m) offer were to arrive on their desk.

The Dutchman’s current deal at Camp Nou expires in the summer of 2026.

The Verdict: Sign him up, Erik

De Jong could be a perfect summer signing for United, with midfield an area which has often come in for criticism at Old Trafford.

The Netherlands international would bring poise and control in the middle of the park, enjoying a 91.4% pass completion rate in La Liga this season, along with being hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by his manager Xavi.

De Jong joining United would feel like a statement signing, and the fact that he and Ten Hag know each other so well would further suggest that it would be a match made in heaven.

Rangers will rue missing out on Doughty

Glasgow Rangers director of football Ross Wilson may be regretting his failure to sign Alfie Doughty after he swapped Charlton Athletic for Stoke City.

What’s the story?

If you cast your minds back to the beginning of the January transfer window, Rangers and Celtic were among the clubs chasing the 21-year-old, who had entered the final six months of his contract at Charlton Athletic.

However, Stoke have pulled off a major coup with the signing of the highly-rated winger.

According to Glasgow Times, Doughty opted for the English Championship instead of the Old Firm. The report adds the Accies also rejected two cash bids from Celtic, which should soften the blow of any disappointed Rangers fans, knowing he turned The Hoops down.

The ever-reliable Ryan Kent was among the scorers as Rangers ran rampant over Ross County in a five-goal thriller at Ibrox. Yet Doughty’s last performance for Lee Bowyer’s side gave Stoke fans a glimpse of what he has to offer, and showed Wilson exactly what he missed.

Missed the boat?

Able to play at left-back or on the left wing, Doughty’s ability to operate anywhere on the left-hand side of the pitch is no doubt an added bonus for Michael O’Neill’s side.

Having excelled on loan at National League side Bromley, the Accies took a chance on their academy prospect and were duly rewarded, as he has received a WhoScored rating of 7.15, which put him firmly at the top of the leaderboard for Bowyer’s side, tied with his former teammate Jake Forster-Caskey.

Just like Kent himself, his dribbling is arguably one of his biggest strengths and he delivered with great aplomb against Northampton Town, as evidenced by his 66% win rate in his individual battles, winning two out of three duels against the Cobblers before succumbing to injury.

Off the ball, he is also prepared to work hard to to deny opponents any opportunities to score goals. This season, Doughty has made 2.4 tackles per game in League One, which suggests that he still chips in defensively as well. For context, that’s more than can be said for the likes of Rangers fringe players Brandon Barker (0.6) and Jordan Jones (0.7).

Opposition players have also found it difficult to get the better of Doughty, who was dubbed “outstanding” by his former boss Bowyer, as he is dribbled past just 0.9 times per game, as per SofaScore.

And it’s not just his hard graft that has caught the eye, either, as he has shown a willingness to bring the ball forward and put his team on the front foot. The left midfielder currently averages 1.7 key passes per game, which is only slightly fewer than Kent himself (1.9).

With Doughty now plying his trade at the bet365 Stadium, it seems Rangers have missed the boat on signing a player who could have been a perfect replacement for Kent, who former Scotland star Alan Hutton thinks could be sold “if the price is right” amidst reports linking him with a move to Leeds.

AND in other news, Glasgow Rangers must get rid of Jordan Jones this month…

Liverpool: Fans desperate to sign Vlahovic

Some Liverpool supporters are desperate for the Reds to snap up Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic this summer following a fresh update on his future.

While much of the talk this season has understandably revolved around Liverpool’s centre-back woes, that has been far from their only issue.

It could actually be argued that their wastefulness in front of goal became even more problematic as the campaign went on, with the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino well below their best.

[freshpress-quiz id=“355458″]

Fortunately, it didn’t cost Jurgen Klopp’s side in the end, with a third-place finish sealed on Sunday, but the manager may still be eyeing up summer reinforcements in attack.

One player who has been linked with a move to Anfield in the summer is Vlahovic, who has taken Serie A by storm in 2020/21, scoring 21 goals in 37 appearances for Fiorentina.

According to Corriere dello Sport [via LFC Transfer Room on Twitter], the Reds are still keen on signing the 21-year-old, although a big offer will likely need to be made to prise him away.

Everton fans on Olsen transfer update

Many Everton fans have been reacting to a transfer update on Robin Olsen as Tuttomercatoweb have reported that he could stay at Goodison Park.

As per the news outlet, AS Roma director Tiago Pinto is trying to renew the loan deal of the Sweden international to the Merseyside club, with him currently set to return back to the Serie A team.

Olsen looked assured enough in between the posts for Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the 2020/21 term, keeping three clean sheets in 11 games in total over all competitions (Transfermarkt).

However, with both Jordan Pickford and Joao Virginia still with the Toffees, one may question whether they actually need Olsen back.

Nonetheless, the news on the 31-year-old goalkeeper has certainly caused a debate among the Blues faithful over whether they should bring him in on another loan for next season.
