Sachin Tendulkar’s absence from the Rajya Sabha, the upper house in India’s parliament, has come under scrutiny. Since he took oath as an MP in April 2012, Tendulkar has a 3% attendance record, having attended parliament on just three days and last in December 2013. He has not attended a single sitting this year.The issue was raised in the house by P Rajeeve of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) who asked if Tendulkar had sought permission for his extended absence and demanded his seat be vacated. In response, deputy chairperson of the Rajya Sabha, PJ Kurien said, “As per Article 104 of the Constitution, if a member is absent from either House of Parliament for a period of 60 days then the seat is considered vacant. In case of Sachin Tendulkar, he has not attended the Parliament for 40 days, so he hasn’t violated Constitutional provisions.”Tendulkar, however, said he had been missing because of a medical emergency in his family. “My absence in parliament has been discussed too much,” he told reporters in Delhi. “I do not wish to disrespect any institution. I had a medical emergency in the family. My brother had heart surgery.”Tendulkar’s decision to accept the Rajya Sabha nomination while still being an active cricketer had been received with surprise. At the time Tendulkar had described the nomination as an ‘honour’. Rajiv Shukla, a minister in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of the time and a senior BCCI official, was seen as the driving force behind convincing Tendulkar to accept the role. Shukla has also been critical of Tendulkar. “Why have you chosen to become a member of Parliament if you don’t attend?” he told a television news channel and said he had spoken to Tendulkar, who had promised to join the next Rajya Sabha session.According to the Indian constitution, 12 members are nominated by the President of India from “among persons who have special knowledge or practical experience in respect of such matters as literature, science, art and social service. By adopting the principle of nomination in Rajya Sabha, the Constitution has ensured that the nation must also receive services of the most distinguished persons of the country who have earned distinction in their field of activity, many of whom may not like to face the rough and tumble of the election.”

عقدت اللجنة الثلاثية المكلفة بإدارة نادي الزمالك برئاسة عماد البناني وعضوية أيمن شعراوي مدير النشاط الرياضي وأحمد فؤاد الوطن المدير المالي، جلسة مساء اليوم الأحد، مع المرشحين لانتخابات القلعة البيضاء، التي ستقام على هامش الجمعية العموميه العادية المقرر لها يوم 20 أكتوبر المقبل.

ووضعت اللجنة خلال الجلسة التي حضرها عدد كبير من المرشحين ومن ينوب عنهم، خارطة المرحلة حتى موعد الانتخابات المُقبلة.

وجاءت أبرز النقاط التي تم التأكيد عليها خلال الجلسة، عقد ندوات انتخابية للمرشحين بالملعب الخماسي، بحيث يتم عقد 3 ندوات انتخابية فقط في اليوم الواحد، على أن يتم بثها عبر جميع شاشات النادي لأعضاء الجمعية العمومية.

ورفضت اللجنة الثلاثية فكرة وضع أي لافتات للمرشحين داخل مقر القلعة البيضاء، مع الاكتفاء فقط بتوزيع منشورات كدعاية انتخابية على أعضاء الجمعية العمومية.

وأكد عماد البناني أن اللجنه تبذل قصارى جهدها من أجل راحة جميع الأعضاء وتسليم النادي لمجلس منتخب في الفترة المقبلة.

كما قررت اللجنة الثلاثية في الزمالك فتح باب عقد الندوات للمرشحين داخل النادي مقابل مبلغ مالي قدره 15 ألف جنيه للمرشح الفردي وله ندوة واحدة فقط.

وبالنسبة لبعض المرشحين من القائمة الواحدة الذين يرغبون في عقد ندوه معًا ستكون بمقابل 25 ألف جنيه وذلك بحد أقصى ندوتين لنفس الأفراد.

جدير بالذكر أن جميع المرشحين اللذين حضروا اليوم اجتمعوا على نقطة مهمة وهي ضرورة إزالة القيمة المضافة من على الأعضاء حتى يتمكنوا من التصويت واللجنة ردت أن هذا شأن الوزارة وليس من حق اللجنة التصرف في هذا الشأن

Graeme Smith, the former South Africa captain, has said that Jacques Kallis retired from international cricket because he realised he might no longer have the mental strength to last till the 2015 World Cup, and that he could not face the possibility of letting his team down.Kallis had quit Tests late last year and decided to call time on his limited-overs career after making 0, 1 and 4 in Sri Lanka earlier this month.”I’ve been calling him an ‘old man’ and asking him what he’s doing out there, but I had a hint that he might decide to retire after he came back from Sri Lanka and realised that it would take a lot of hard work for him to get through to the World Cup,” Smith told . “When you’re playing full-time it’s easier, but focus is very crucial at international level and I think he was wondering if his mind is really on it.”He really wanted to win the World Cup, but I’ve always appreciated his honesty and I think he realised that he might let the team down. He was honest enough to realise he might not be strong enough to make it through to next year, especially in terms of bowling and mentally.”After Kallis’ return to the ODI side last year, the challenge for South Africa had been to build the side around him but Smith said the timing of his exit six months before the World Cup had given the team time to make up for his absence.”He’s given the team enough space tactically to fill his gap with other guys but it’s obviously always sad when players of his calibre move on. But he’s had an incredible career which we can all celebrate and look back on fondly. He brought so much happiness and South African cricket got a lot out of Jacques in so many different eras.”Smith said that Kallis was among the greatest to have played the game. “It’s always difficult to compare players from different eras, but if you consider the amount of cricket Jacques played, the length of consistency at the top of the game and all the different conditions and challenges he performed in, then he’s got to be up there with the best who’ve ever played the game. In time, I’m sure his reputation will only go from strength to strength.”Hashim Amla, the South Africa Test captain, also praised Kallis, calling him a “one-in-50-years” cricketer. “Jacques was a one-in-50-years cricketer who had a huge influence on so many Proteas players over a twenty-year period. I was privileged to have been one of those. You appreciate the magnitude of the cricketer not only when you look at his record but also when you play alongside him.”

تحدث داويت وبيشيت عضو مجلس إدارة نادي سان جورج الإثيوبي عن مباراة الأهلي التي أقيمت مساء الأحد في ذهاب دور الـ32 لبطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا.

وكان الأهلي قد نجح في تحقيق فوز كبير بثلاثية دون رد على سان جورج في اللقاء الذي أقيم على ملعب استاد القاهرة الدولي.

وقال وبيشيت في تصريحات لبرنامج رقم 10 المذاع على القناة الأولى: “الأهلي لعب مباراة منظمة تكتيكًا وفنيًا، وفريقنا لا يزال شابًا يحتاج للمزيد من الوقت ليكون مناسبًا للمرحلة الحالية”.

واستكمل: “لعبنا المباراتين في القاهرة لعدة أسباب، منها أن ملعبنا لم يكن جاهزا لاستضافة المباراة وفقا لشروط الاتحاد الإفريقي، وأيضا الفترة بين المباراتين قصيرة أن نذهب إلى بلد أخر لخوض الذهاب والسفر إلى مصر لخوض الإياب، الأمور ستكون صعبة لذلك لعبنا في مصر المباراتين للحفاظ على لاعبينا”.

وواصل: “أكثر من أعجبني في لاعبي الأهلي بيرسي تاو وحسين الشحات هما لاعبان جيدان من الناحية الفنية هما على أعلى مستوى”.

وأتم: “من حظنا السيء أن نواجه الأهلي في دور الـ32 لان هدفنا كان الذهاب بعيدا في البطولة لما لدينا من امكانيات”.

O confronto

A etapa inicial foi do Londrina. Dentro de casa, o Tubarão apresentou um bom volume de jogo e teve as melhores oportunidades para balançar a rede. Na casa dos 31 minutos, Dagoberto aproveitou o desvio no primeiro pau e mandou para o fundo da rede.

The allrounder last played for India in the 2012 World T20 and has since struggled with injuries. In the last two domestic seasons, Irfan has played just five first-class games, including four in the Ranji Trophy, but has played more matches in the limited-overs tournaments.Irfan last bowled in the first-class format during the 2012-13 season, in which he sent down 44 overs during a Ranji Trophy match and an India A game against an England XI. During the 2013-14 season, he played three matches for Baroda only as a batsman. In T20s across the same period, Irfan bowled more than 100 overs and played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the IPL, for Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 and 2014 respectively.”When anyone questions my credentials in the team, it really hurts but I don’t think too much about it. When people talk about not playing the last two domestic seasons, they don’t talk about me playing as a batsman for half of the Ranji season even when the physio had told me to wait,” Irfan told ESPNcricinfo after the launch of Cricket Academy of Pathans, a forum created with brother Yusuf, that aims at conducting short-term training modules for budding cricketers.”The physio had told me I couldn’t do any harm if I played as a batsman. I could have easily taken that away and sat out. But I thought it was my duty to serve Baroda cricket, and [for] half of the season I played as a batsman when I could have easily said ‘Let me get fully fit and I would wait and play only as a bowling allrounder’. Besides, I played one-day cricket and the Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well. People in Baroda cricket and those who know me know well that just before the Mushtaq Ali Trophy I had typhoid. And I hadn’t recovered fully.”I want to make sure that those kind of questions don’t arise. People don’t talk about it which is very unfortunate. You know what you are doing, you believe in God and you know you are honest. So eventually, I keep working hard towards playing for country again which I will do very soon. Let people talk what they want to talk.”Irfan was confident about an India comeback and said that the larger goal for him was to get fitter and better by playing more games.”Yes, the World Cup is in mind. But at the same time I need to be realistic, making sure to play as many Ranji Trophy matches and a full domestic season,” Irfan said.”Once I do that, as a bowler you know that the more matches he plays the better he gets, the fitter he gets. His bowling gets to the level which he wants. I also want to do the same by playing as many matches as many possible. And then there is an aim of playing for India. That may happen either before the World Cup or after it. But that’s gonna happen for sure.”Irfan had been picked in India’s squad for the Champions Trophy in England last year but did not get a game. He was a part of the squad for the tri-series in West Indies but was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. He then suffered a rib injury that sidelined him for the early part of last season’s Ranji Trophy.
