Menos pressão e trabalho cuidadoso: jovens vivem cenário ideal no Timão

É importante ressaltar a coragem do Carille.

Créditos a Fábio Carille.

Man City fans react to Declan Rice links

A number of Manchester City fans have reacted negatively to reports linking Declan Rice with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

The Athletic’s West Ham correspondent Roshane Thomas wrote in a mailbag for the website on Friday that there is “every chance” of the Premier League champions making a transfer offer in 2022 for the England midfielder, who was reportedly a target for the Cityzens this year as well. Man City fan feed @City_Chief later shared the update via Twitter.

A core presence in the Three Lions’ run to the Euro 2020 final in the summer, Rice has also drawn admiring glances from the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United, with some reports claiming that West Ham had placed a £100m price tag on him to ward off prospective suitors. Incidentally, that was the same amount which City paid to Aston Villa for his England team-mate Jack Grealish in August.

Despite his tender age, he has already captained David Moyes’ side on numerous occasions and exceeded 150 first team appearances. City reportedly want him as Fernandinho’s long-term successor at the Etihad, with Rice and Rodri potentially playing together or even vying for just one place in Pep Guardiola’s midfield.

Man City fans don’t want Rice

These City fans on Twitter weren’t overly keen on the idea of the club making a big-money move for the “overpriced” West Ham midfielder, with some stating their preference to see City academy starlet Romeo Lavia promoted to the senior squad instead and others believing Rice to be surplus to requirements given the presence of Rodri at the Etihad.

“One of the most overrated players I’ve ever seen. Rodri is 10x the player Rice is. This fella can’t make a progressive pass to save his life and is slower than a snail facing counters. Just promote Lavia or even get Kalvin Phillips who defo is better than Rice”

Woakes takes out West Indian top order

At a time when young English quick bowlers are making the headlines, Chris Woakes enhanced his claims for higher honours as he starred for the England Lions by taking out the West Indian top order on a rain-hit opening day at Derby.Woakes ended with the fine figures of 4 for 26 as the tourists struggled to 76 for 4 in the 28 allowed by the weather. Play had started on time, but the opening passage of action lasted just 3.1 overs however that was still enough time for Woakes to make his mark. Lendl Simmons was drawn into a loose push which sent an edge through to Tim Ambrose for what was the first of three all-Warwickshire dismissals.Rain prevented further play until well into the final session, but the lengthy stoppage hadn’t effected Woakes who soon had Devon Smith caught behind. That was quickly followed by Denesh Ramdin’s wicket as the stand-in captain was caught by Ian Bell. However, Woakes’ most notable scalp was still to follow when he removed a well-set Ramnaresh Sarwan for 31 with Samit Patel taking the catch as the West Indians staggered to 55 for 4.Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Brendan Nash managed to resist until bad light brought an early close, but it was another troubling day for the West Indian top order – following their poor display against Essex, with the opening Test less than a week away.

Leeds United facing transfer howler with Barkley

Leeds United could be facing another Seth Johnson-esque nightmare by making a move for Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley.

What’s the story?

According to recent reports from 90min, the English ace is free to leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window, and is wanted by the likes of Leeds, Newcastle United and Burnley.

Shades of Johnson

A profile done by Goal, said: “Having starred for Derby County, Johnson was being tipped as the future of England’s midfield, and as such Leeds forked out £7m for his services.

“Injuries plagued his time in West Yorkshire, though, and he made just 54 league appearances in four seasons with the club. His massive wages, meanwhile, are cited as the best illustration of the mass overspending that crippled the Whites during the early 21st century.”

Leeds Live added: “The poster child of the Ridsdale era of over-indulgence. A £7m signing with a hefty wage packet who turned out just 54 times in four years.”

If Johnson’s career at Elland Road could be mirrored by a modern player, then Barkley arguably fits that bill the most.

Earning a reported £100k-per-week, the midfielder just endured a shocking season while on loan at Aston Villa, managing only three goals and one assist in the Premier League – indeed, he had a shocking second half of the season in particular, with no goals in the top flight since the end of January when he netted in a 1-0 victory over Southampton.

Speaking on The Athletic’s Aston Villa-themed 1874 podcast, journalist Gregg Evans said: “He doesn’t do enough for me now. I’ve seen enough of Ross Barkley now to realise that he’s becoming a bit of a liability for Villa. He’s not helping out enough as he should, really.”

And, speaking after he was taken off yet again in the second half against Leicester, Sky Sports pundit Alex Scott slammed him for his display, saying: “For me it’s another missed opportunity for Ross Barkley to show up and demand, he’s been subbed off again and you can see in his face he’s not happy. But how many chances does a player need?

“You need to take it upon yourself. There’s only so many chances that he can be deserving. He’s missed another opportunity today.”

Barkley has faced numerous injury problems that have really plagued his career since really making his breakthrough at Everton, and given his big wages too, he doesn’t scream a player who could really take Leeds to the next level.

The Whites must simply avoid a major disaster by going after Barkley.

Meanwhile, Leeds are eyeing this La Liga starlet…

Price spins Northerns to top of the table

A round-up of the fourth-round action from the Logan Cup as Northerns leapfrog Easterns at the top

Northerns took over the lead of in the 2008-09 Logan Cup with a rousing innings-and-290-run thrashing of Centrals at Harare’s Alexandra Sports Club.Northerns massive first innings of 510 for 9 was built around Regis Chakabva’s career-best 131 and good contributions from Brendan Taylor (95) and Tatenda Taibu (92). Taylor was playing in Zimbabwe for the first time since last year after striking a deal with board officials, but he is unlikely to feature again in the Logan Cup as he is due to leave to take up a club commitment in England in the next few days.Centrals never looked likely to offer any serious resistance and were bowled out for 122 and, following on, for 98, losing with more than a day and a half to spare. In the first innings Ray Price returned fine figures of 8.5-6-6-5 and he added 4 for 28 in the second, with Admire Manyumwa chipping in with 5 for 25. Price leads the competition wickets tally with 23 from four matches.Easterns slipped to second despite beating bottom side Westerns by 56 runs at Harare Sports Club. For a while it looked as if an upset could be on the cards as Westerns, set a target of 212, reached 117 for 4. But Hamilton Masakadza struck twice in three overs, and then the offspin pairing of Prosper Utseya and Timycen Maruma polished off the innings as the last four wickets fell for five runs.Until then, Westerns had looked the better side. They bowled Easterns out for 200, John Nyumbu taking 5 for 78, and then took a first-innings lead of 65 thanks largely to a maiden hundred from Mbekezele Mabuza. He had only been in a brief time when Westerns slumped to 99 for 7, but he marshaled the tail to great effect and the last three wickets added 166.Stuart Matsikenyeri ensured that Easterns stayed in the game, his 142 from 204 balls almost single handedly keeping them afloat. He came in at No. 4, saw his side slide to 143 for 6, but was last man out after he had helped them to reach 276. As it turned out, that was just about enough.

A temporada acabou?

No intervalo, 0 a 0 no placar do Mineirão.

O lance animou tanto a torcida quanto o resto do time. A pressão aumentou e o gol ia amadurecendo.

Handling Twenty20 domination needs new mindset – Majola

Administrators must strike a balance between Twenty20 and traditional formats, the SA cricket boss has said

Ajay S Shankar25-May-2009

A future packed with five Twenty20 leagues a year, apart from Tests and ODIs is in store, if Gerald Majola and Lalit Modi are to be believed•Associated Press

World cricket administrators must be prepared for change in the near future where they are likely to have to strike a balance between five high-profile Twenty20 tournaments every year and traditional formats like Tests and ODIs, Gerald Majola, chief executive of Cricket South Africa (CSA), has said.In an interview to Cricinfo a day after the second IPL ended in South Africa, Majola said the ICC’s Future Tours Programe (FTP), the current version of which lapses in 2012, is also likely to adjust accordingly.CSA is a founding partner of the Champions Twenty20 League, a multi-nation club event that will be held in India in October, and is in negotiations with Cricket Australia and New Zealand Cricket to hold a separate Southern Twenty20 league involving domestic teams from the three countries. With the ECB approving plans last month for their own P20 league, and Lalit Modi, the IPL chairman, floating the idea of a second annual season, world cricket will soon confront a future packed with five Twenty20 leagues a year, apart from Tests and ODIs.Majola believes, though, that there is room for all formats to thrive if there is a willingness to change. “Cricket remains a dynamic sport, and administrators must also be prepared for change if it is needed,” he said “There is room for all forms of this great game. With the advent of the IPL and similar tournaments, the FTP is most likely to adjust accordingly.”Majola, however, dismissed as a “misconception” suggestions that Test cricket was in danger because of these Twenty20 leagues. “South Africa and Australia have recently completed a six-Test, home-and-away series with every match going to the wire and producing a result — there were no draws,” Majola said. “All matches drew full houses and the players responded accordingly with exciting, positive cricket. If this vein continues, Test cricket will stay healthy. I am sure it will also gain from the new generation of spectators coming from the T20 arena. Certainly, T20 has produced a lot more adventure in Test cricket and there is definitely a place in both forms for skilled players.”Majola also said that the “enormously resounding success” of the IPL has come as a surprise, given the short span of time in which it was relocated from India. The Indian league also taught CSA valuable lessons, he said, and the most important one was that everyone involved, “from the State Presidency to the car park attendants”, need to share the vision for an event of this magnitude to succeed.Majola admitted, though, that he didn’t expect the IPL to be such a success in South Africa. “We always expected to host a successful IPL tournament because we have the expertise, excellent facilities, an equable climate and a cricket-loving public that shows a great penchant for limited-overs cricket,” he said. “We also had the full support of the South African government from the outset and this made a huge difference. However, taking all these pluses this into account, we never expected that IPL 2009 would be such an enormously resounding success.”The key ingredient for the IPL’s success in a foreign country, he said, was the marketing effort that went into the event. “There is no doubt that the difference between hosting a successful IPL and producing an outstanding one was the expert marketing put into place at short notice by the organizers,” he said. “It hit the right note to a public that adores limited-overs cricket and the glamour and glitz of cricketing superstars mixing with Bollywood personalities.”Indians for new leagueTop Indian players are likely to feature in the Southern Twenty20 league that is being planned, possibly from next year, by South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Gerald Majola, CSA’s chief executive, said. “Nothing concrete has been decided,” he said. “It is most likely that Indian players will be involved, just like non-Indian players are involved in the IPL.”For CSA, the main difference between hosting the ICC World Cup in 2003 and the ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, and the IPL this month, Majola said, was the Indian league’s handling of its stadium rights.”The difference was mainly in the full manner in which the IPL exercised its stadium rights,” he said. “The hosting agreement was based on that with the ICC, but the IPL rightly took full advantage – they wanted a clean stadium, including hospitality areas, which put a big strain on the agreements the stadia had with suite renters. We had to make alternative arrangements to accommodate the locals. CSA and the stadia are going to have to bring all our hosting agreements into line so that we do not have this issue again.”During this IPL, there were reports from South Africa about how the organizers had faced problems in getting full access to the sponsors’ suites at the grounds after owners refused to step aside, citing separate agreements with CSA. On many occasions, the deadlock was resolved only after the IPL provided separate seating and hospitality arrangements for the original suite-holders.Yet, the biggest lesson to emerge from this IPL was the need for all “relevant stake-holders” to share a common vision, Majola said. “The single biggest lesson coming out of the 2009 IPL in South Africa is that it is essential that all relevant stake-holders are on board and share the same vision for the event as was the case here,” he said. “Everybody got behind this event, from the State Presidency to the car park attendants. People helped each other, even to the extent of the media giving mammoth below-the-line support to the formal advertising and marketing programme. The impact was huge. Everybody felt they had ownership of an extremely exciting event.”Majola said that CSA will now take a careful look at any opportunity to host another IPL. “Having a shorter, second season of IPL has been mooted and CSA would have to take a careful look at hosting one of them if it was offered to us,” he said.

MCFC fans want to sign Zakaria

Manchester City fans want to sign Denis Zakaria after they were linked with a move for the central midfielder.

The Citizens have made a strong start to the new campaign as they sit third in the Premier League table, just two points behind leaders Chelsea (Sky Sports). They have cruised through their Champions League group stage games so far and are still in the League Cup (mancity.com).

All of this has been done with only one recognised striker in Gabriel Jesus but, instead of adding a new forward to his squad, it seems Pep Guardiola is interested in strengthening the midfield with Zakaria

Calciomercato say the Citizens are ready to challenge Jose Mourinho’s Roma for the £24.3m-valued Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder (Transfermarkt), who will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The news was shared on Twitter by @City_Xtra, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about the Zakaria news below
