Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer believes Jose Mourinho must be judged at the end of the season.

After managing to pick up a bit of form, Tottenham have once again found themselves in a difficult moment. The north London club recently lost against their fierce rivals Arsenal before their humiliating 3-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb, which saw them get knocked out of the Europa League.

Going into that second leg last-16 tie, Mourinho was already coming under heavy criticism due to what some have perceived as a negative approach to the north London derby.

The sharks will no doubt continue to circle after that horror show in Croatia with The Daily Mail reporting he’ll be sacked if he doesn’t secure a top-four finish, but Palmer is adamant a verdict on Mourinho should not be made until the end of the campaign and has defended the Portuguese coach’s style of football.

Speaking prior to the loss against Dinamo, Palmer told FFC:

“That’s the way Mourinho plays, so that’s nothing new. That’s the way he plays and he gets results, he wins football matches, he wins trophies. You have to judge Mourinho come the end of the season.”

Discussing Mourinho’s philosophy further, the ex-England international added:

“I know people are saying it’s a negative system, but Harry Kane is still creating a lot of opportunities and scoring a lot of goals, so it cannot be that negative. I think they’ve scored over 100 goals as well, you know, so yeah.”

While their elimination from the Europa League would have come as huge disappointment, Spurs’ season is far from over.

Mourinho’s men are still in the race to finish in the top four and also have a Carabao Cup final against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to look forward to in April.

وفاز لاميلا بالجائزة بعد هدفه على طريقة “رابونا” في مرمى آرسنال، بالديربي اللندني في الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز الموسم الماضي.

وقال لاميلا: “أشكركم على الجائزة وسعيد جدًا للفوز بـ بوشكاش، لم أدر أن الهدف بهذا الجمال، لكنني قمت بتسجيله بهذه الطريقة، ولم تكن المرة الوحيدة”.

Aston Villa should make a move for Chelsea star Tammy Abraham this summer amid Lee Hendrie’s transfer claim.

What’s the story?

Reports in recent weeks have linked Dean Smith’s side with a move for the striker in this upcoming summer transfer window, with Abraham of course having worked under the Villa boss for a season when the Midlands club were earning promotion back to the Premier League in 2018/19.

Hendrie has now thrown his weight behind a potential move for Abraham, insisting that the £36m-rated centre-forward would be a “fabulous fit” at Villa.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, he said: “I’m a big fan of Tammy, I really am. I just feel that he’s got great energy. When he was at Villa for that period of time, he was immense, he really was. He was a breath of fresh air, he gave it that belief, he gave fans a lot of pleasure and he scored a lot of goals. It might be that Tammy has to leave Chelsea, and I do feel that coming to Villa, I think it’d be a fabulous fit.

“He’s a player I’d have all day at the club because, at the moment you’re looking at the overload that Ollie Watkins has gone through this season, (he’s) played a hell of a lot of games. Imagine having those two in your squad. I just feel that’d be a massive positive push for Villa.”

Reunion with Dean Smith

Having netted a whopping 26 goals in 40 games during Villa’s Championship run in the 2018/19 campaign, it’s no surprise that Smith has previously raved about the striker.

Speaking after he netted against Swansea that season, the Villa boss said: “Tammy is a handful and he knows better than me that he should have been walking away with the match ball tonight. But he scored the winning goal, he’s a hell of a talent. Tammy put in a hell of a shift up front on his own and proved he is a fine player.”

Called the “real deal” by former Villa boss Tim Sherwood, Abraham’s previous experience in working with Smith would likely see him hit the ground running at Villa Park as there should be no need for adjusting to what the manager wants or his style of play.

The 23-year-old has since had ample experience playing at Premier League level, and has shown he can handle the step up – last year saw him bag 15 goals in the top flight, while he has netted six in 20 league games this season despite not being a first team regular..

Villa would be making a shrewd move by landing Abraham this summer.

Rangers are reportedly considering a summer move for IF Elfsborg centre-back Joseph Okumu as they eye up potential replacements for Filip Helander in Steven Gerrard’s squad, with the Swedish international having been linked with a move away from Ibrox in recent weeks.

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, the Light Blues have made preliminary enquiries for the 23-year-old defender, as they prepare for the possibility of both Helander and Edmundson leaving this summer.

Helander has played a key role in Rangers’ title success this season and has earned admirers from the Premier League as a result, with both Leicester City and Aston Villa said to be keen on the former Bologna man.

Would he be a good signing?

After spending time in his home country Kenya, Okumu has had spells in South Africa and the USA before finding his feet in Sweden with Elfsborg.

Since then, he has made 34 appearances for the Allsvenskan side, in which he has contributed no goals and one assist.

The Kenyan international clearly had an impressive impact last season, as Elfsborg lost just two league games when he featured, which helped them to a second-place finish in the 2020 league table.

When Okumu made the move to South Africa earlier in his career, a source at the club praised Okumu as one of the best signings the club made that year and praised the defender, saying:

“He spent few days with us training with us and did well to impress the coach. He is a young, talented boy destined for a great future in football.”

The 23-year-old could help realise that potential should he make the move to Rangers in the summer, although with the report suggesting that there has already been a £2 million bid for the youngster, it seems that he won’t come cheap this summer.

However, the 6 foot 3 defender could well prove to be an excellent replacement for Filip Helander, so Ross Wilson and Gerrard should definitely look at bringing him to Ibrox ahead of next season.

Eddie Howe is ‘a serious candidate’ to become Celtic’s next permanent manager, according to the reliable Alan Nixon.

Howe has been out of work since leaving Bournemouth back in August and has been linked with the Hoops job on numerous occasions since the turn of the year.

Nixon, who writes for The Sun, was simply asked on Twitter by a Hoops fan on Tuesday evening ‘Howe to Celtic?’, to which he replied: ’He’s a candidate. A serious candidate.’

The Hoops are yet to confirm any off-field appointments following Neil Lennon’s resignation in February, with a director of football set to be brought in prior to a new first-team manager.

Transfer Tavern take

To us, Howe is the sort of manager Celtic should be after. At just 43 years of age, the Englishman could inject a fresh youthful approach to the Hoops and already has an impressive CV.

He took Bournemouth from League Two to the Premier League in the space of six seasons during his second stint in charge of the Cherries.

Celtic appear in desperate need of a rebuild this summer, and with Howe having previous experience of that on the south coast, he could be the man to bring an exciting attacking style of football back to Celtic Park.

Michel Bastos tem contrato com o São Paulo até dezembro de 2017. Se comunicar à diretoria que não quer mais jogar pelo clube, haverá uma dificuldade para seu futuro. Isso porque ele já disputou sete jogos no Campeonato Brasileiro e não pode atuar mais na competição por outro clube. Além disso, a janela de transferências internacionais está fechada na maioria dos grandes centros. O que fazer?
