Lee Johnson is doing marvellous things with this Sunderland side. He has taken them to fourth in the League One table and is extracting the very best from the Mackems’ front line.

Aiden McGeady has recorded ten assists in just 16 outings for Johnson while Charlie Wyke has become the second top scorer in the entire division, although injuries are still wreaking havoc with the team.

On the chalkboard

Every week seems to spring more bad news for Johnson in the injury department. Last weekend the casualty happened to be Grant Leadbitter. The experienced midfielder was introduced as a substitute in the draw with Crewe but hobbled off within a matter of minutes.

The stretcher was brought out for Leadbitter, who went down in enormous pain. The positive was that he eventually walked off the field of play but he had still sustained a dislocated shoulder, the second such injury of this variety after Luke O’Nien’s dislocation a few months ago.

He is now set for a number of weeks on the sidelines, which could open up other opportunities for players to step up and take on the mantle in the middle of the park.

The solution

Josh Scowen has started two successive games in the middle now, but with games coming up thick and fast, Johnson will have to use the very depths of his squad to get Sunderland over the line and promoted.

O’Nien has been playing as a makeshift centre-half with further injuries to Bailey Wright, Tom Flanagan and Jordan Willis.

As a result, he won’t be able to offer a solution in midfield. Instead, the manager should turn to Carl Winchester, someone that started against Swindon last time out.

The midfielder signed in January from Forest Green Rovers but has been used sparingly since. Winchester has only started three matches and is yet to really see his career take off at the Stadium of Light.

That being said, he’s a player that Johnson and indeed managers throughout the EFL rate incredibly highly. The Black Cats boss took charge of the 27-year-old during his days at Oldham, where he waxed lyrical about his qualities.

“He’s been superb,” Johnson began. “He’s had a really good pre-season and I think he’s been Championship-class at least since the start of the season,” he concluded.

That was a number of years ago but the sentiment has remained. Mark Cooper commented last year: “He’s a top, top player and should be playing at a much higher level. He’s at least a seven and a half out of ten each week.

“He’s a Championship player and if I was a Championship manager, he’d be one of the first players I would take.”

Like Leadbitter, Winchester possesses the ability to gently keep things ticking over. His passing success rate is north of 85% while he’s strong in the tackle, producing two successful challenges per game for Forest Green this season.

With Sunderland’s options consistently dwindling, Johnson could do far worse than turning to the midfielder this weekend. He simply has to be unleashed in the starting XI during the run-in.

In the end, it turned out to be yet another miserable trip to the capital for Leeds United on Monday night.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side extended their wretched run of results in London with a dismal 2-0 defeat to West Ham in the Premier League, with the Whites now having lost 13 of their last 14 visits to the city.

Goals from Jesse Lingard and Craig Dawson were enough to consign them to a defeat, and while there were a number of poor performers on the night, Mateusz Klich’s shocker really stood out among the rest.

The Poland international’s form in recent weeks surely warranted him being dropped from the starting line-up against the Hammers, but once again, Bielsa chose to place his loyalty and faith in his midfielder.

And boy, was he made to regret that. Klich looked well off the pace in the opening 45 minutes of the contest, winning just one of his seven duels in total, losing 86% – the worst percentage of any Leeds player on the pitch.

There was none of the energy and dynamism on display that we see when Klich is at his absolute best, with the 30-year-old looking a shadow of his former self.

He made just the one tackle and recorded no interceptions, blocks or clearances whatsoever, while he wasn’t even a presence going forward either, with no shots on goal and no dribbles attempted.

The Leeds boss seemed to finally lose patience with him, and ended up hooking him at half-time, with Gjanni Alioski coming on in his place at the break.

And, writing in his post-match player ratings for Leeds Live, Beren Cross noted: “Has looked like a passenger for weeks and again was well off it in the capital. Just seemed totally empty and unable to provide any kind of control or presence in the centre. Overrun by Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice.”

If he needed to be dropped before the game, then there simply cannot be any excuses for Bielsa from not reaching that conclusion after watching Klich’s performance on Monday night against the Hammers.

وأضاف: “الزمالك في (مصيبة)، هناك 10 لاعبين عقودهم تنتهي بنهاية الموسم الجاري، وعلى رأسهم طارق حامد وأشرف بن شرقي وعناصر أساسية أخرى، هذا الأمر أزمة كبيرة ويعرض الفريق لخسارة العديد من العناصر الأساسية”.

وتابع: “سر استقرار فريق الكرة الأول بالأهلي هو عقود لاعبيه، هناك 8 لاعبين في الأهلي ما زال في عقودهم موسم ونصف، والإدارة تتعامل مع تجديد عقود اللاعبين بالشكل الأمثل، فأي نادي يجب أن يجدد للاعب عندما يكون متبقي في عقده موسم ونصف، إذا كان اللاعب متبقي في عقده موسم وحيد سيكون قد دخل النادي في منطقة الخطر، واللاعب وقتها يكون هو المتحكم في الأمر مع وكيله”.

وعن أزمة شيكابالا بشأن التلاعب في عقده، قال ميدو: “المسؤولون في الزمالك وضعوا بندًا في عقد شيكابالا يجبره على تحمل السكن الخاص به والذي يبلغ 26 ألف جنيه شهريًا، هل هذا منطقي مع لاعب يعد من أبناء نادي الزمالك؟، من الطبيعي أن تكرم الأندية أولادها وكل أندية العالم تفعل ذلك، ولكن الزمالك النادي الوحيد الذي يظلم أولاده”.

وواصل: “شيكابالا يستحق الحصول على 10 ملايين جنيه في الموسم وهذا أقل شئ بعد كل ما قدمه مع الزمالك، وتضحيته بالأموال في مواقف كثيرة من أجل حبه للنادي وآخر تلك المواقف رفضه الحصول على جزء من قيمة عقده من أجل صرف مستحقات زملائه في الفريق”.

وأكمل: “اتفق مع مسؤولي الزمالك على راتب 30 مليون جنيه خلال 3 مواسم ولكن الاتفاق تم تغييره في العقد، ليحصل على 35% فقط من عقده مع الزمالك، وهذا منافي تمامًا للاتفاق الذي تم معه”.

According to recent reports, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the possibility of making a move for Juventus forward, Paulo Dybala, this summer.

The report by France Football (via Sport Witness) claims that Juventus could look to offload the £237,000 per week Dybala in the summer transfer window and that both Tottenham and Chelsea are contenders for the signature of the 27-year-old, should he indeed leave Turin.

According to the report, Thomas Tuchel and Jose Mourinho would be willing to part with between €50 million (£43 million) and €55 million (£47 million) for the £63 million-rated Argentina international, who has struggled for game time at Juventus this season due to a number of injury problems.

Transfer Tavern Take

With Tottenham seemingly being linked with a move for Dybala in almost every transfer window over the past few seasons, the fact the story has popped up once again is hardly surprising. Mauricio Pochettino was reportedly (talkSPORT) very close to signing his compatriot, who he described as a ‘special’ and ‘wonderful’ talent who is one of the world’s best.

However, if it is indeed true that Juventus could be actively looking to offload the 27-year-old this summer, the path to the signing of the forward would appear rather more clear than on previous occasions.

And, with Chelsea now also reported to be keen on the signing of the 29 times capped Argentine, perhaps this will force Tottenham’s hand in a move to finally get a deal over the line for one of their long term targets.

No entanto, antes do Palmeiras começar a pensar na sequência complicada de quatro jogos no Campeonato Brasileiro, os jogadores serão obrigados a “virar a chave” para a Copa do Brasil. Quarta-feira, às 19h30, o Verdão recebe no Allianz Parque o Botafogo-PB, pelas oitavas de final da competição. Para Jean, está claro qual é o objetivo principal na temporada, mas, mesmo assim, uma competição paralela não vai atrapalhar.

– Temos que dar mais atenção ao nosso principal objetivo, que todo mundo sabe que é o Brasileirão. Mas temos condições de dar o máximo e brigar pelo título tanto de um, como de outro.
