Son Heung-Min is likely to play for Tottenham Hotspur against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Wednesday, Mauricio Pochettino has said, per The Independent.

What’s the word?

The South Korea international was at the centre of a grisly injury on Sunday, as his tackle led to Everton midfielder Andre Gomes sustaining a fracture-dislocation of his ankle during the 1-1 draw.

Son was sent off for the tackle – the red card has since been rescinded – and was left in tears after seeing the extent of the injury Gomes had sustained.

Reports had suggested that he could subsequently miss the European encounter but Pochettino has now confirmed that he is likely to play a part.

He said: “Son was devastated after the action.

“It was a mix of everything, it was a mix of the injury, a mix of the red card, the situation of the game it was an emotional moment for everyone.

“Now after a few days, everyone is available to play. He is in a very good way, he feels sorry like everyone, but he is in good form.”

Clinical

This is vital.

Son has been in clinical form in the Champions League thus far this season and has netted three goals in his first three appearances.

Those strikes include a brace against Red Star at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Spurs ran out 5-0 winners over a fortnight ago.

Having him available, then, will be a major boost for Pochettino, who has started Son in every available game this season bar two, the draw with Olympiacos and the loss to Colchester United. Even there, he came on as a substitute.

Since his time at Spurs, Son has made 28 appearances in the Champions League, scoring 12 goals, while also registering one assist.

As a left winger who is there to supplement the form of the likes of Harry Kane, that is an impeccable record and one that will surely worry the Red Star defenders on Wednesday night.

Arsenal could make a move for Merih Demiral during the January transfer window, as reported by Bleacher Report.

What’s the story?

Demiral only moved to Juventus from Sassuolo in the summer of 2019 for a fee of €18m (£15.4m), but could be set to make a move again due to a lack of game time.

The Turkey international has managed just one solitary Serie A appearance this campaign, though there were positive signs to be had, as he won 5 aerial duels, while making 1 tackle and 3 clearances.

It is suggested that Arsenal will be kept in the loop if the 21-year-old becomes available at some point during the winter window.

The Gunners are also reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano.

Fulfilling a prophecy

Demiral has been a nomadic figure in 2019. Initially he joined Alanyaspor from Sporting Lisbon in the January window before he moved to Sassuolo on loan.

His temporary move to the Serie A outfit was made permanent in the summer but he almost immediately moved to Juventus just four days later.

If he was to make a move to the Emirates, this would see him fulfil a prophecy set by Sergen Yalcin, his manager from Alanyaspor, who 90min report to have said: “Merih Demiral will be a ​Premier League player within 1-2 seasons. The Turkish national team has its new centre-back for the next 10-12 years.”

It would be slightly bizarre if Arsenal were to sign Demiral as they would be the fifth club he has been involved with in 2019.

There are positive signs from his time at Sassuolo regarding his ability though, as he averaged 1.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 5.6 clearances per game.

When Arsenal’s defensive issues this campaign are taken under consideration, he may be able to make a difference for the team.

If the Gunners do indeed decide to swoop in January, Yalcin will proudly be able to say “I told you so”.

It is fair to suggest that the quintet of Sam Johnstone, Kyle Bartley, Semi Ajayi, Jake Livermore and Romaine Sawyers are the first names on the teamsheet as they have all started in every single game when available – only suspension has stopped two of them from playing 100% of matches this term.

Despite that, it is likely that Bilic names a fully unchanged starting line up even with so many names pushing for places.

Charlie Austin has scored in back-to-back matches from the bench while Hal Robson-Kanu has been gifted with starts following a very similar run of form – given that he has five goals in seven games now, he is likely to be the man that starts.

While Darnell Furlong had to make way for Nathan Ferguson on Wednesday night with Kieran Gibbs also returning to the side for the first time since August, and then there is Conor Townsend too.

Gibbs even scored in their thrashing of Bristol City while the 19-year-old starlet, who could leave in January, slotted back in at his regular right-back position as if he had never been gone. Therefore, these two should keep their places at full-back.

وأضاف: “نادي الزمالك مؤسسة كبيرة محكومة باللوائح، النادي كان يسير بلائحة 2019 والتي طعن عليها ممدوح عباس، ولا توجد مؤسسة تسير بدون لوائح، وننتظر البديل من اللجنة الأولمبية والوزارة، ولا أعلم متى سيحدث هذا”.

وأردف: “أعتقد أن البديل ستكون اللائحة الاسترشادية (الاحتياطية)، وهي بها أمور جيدة جدًا وأخرى تحتاج إلى دراسة وإعادة بحث، من الأمور الجيدة هي تنظيم العمل الإداري وتمثيل للشباب داخل المجلس”.

وتابع: “أما في حالة عدم وجود مجلس إدارة ففي اللائحة الاسترشادية لا توجد بنود خاصة بذلك، والأمر يعود للجمعية العمومية”.

واستكمل: “حالة نادي الزمالك الأن ليست موجودة في اللائحة الاسترشادية، اللجنة الحالية في الزمالك قد ترحل لأن اللائحة التي تم تعيينها على أساسها ألغيت”.

وواصل: “لم أبلغ بأي شيء بشأن الاستقالة، وتم إبلاغي أن اللجنة ذهبت لوزارة الرياضة من أجل المناقشة في أمر شركة كرة القدم، لا أعرف هل أصدق إبراهيم عبد الله الذي قال إن اللجنة استقالت أم صاحب الشأن نفسه الذي نفى، وقد يكون قرار الاستقالة بعد مباراة طلائع الجيش في الدوري”.

واستطرد: “لماذا تحدث الأزمات في وقت المباريات الهامة، لماذا لا يحدث هذا في أوقات الفراغ؟!، لا أريد أن يتأثر اللاعبون، أتمنى ألا يتأثروا، الزمالك كيان كبير وأي أزمة قد تحدث ستؤثر على باقي الكيان، وأنا لا أحب أن يحدث ارتباك”.

وكشف: “الوضع المالي لنادي الزمالك متأزم، المتطلبات تفوق قدرات النادي، ونفكر في حلول، منها أن نحصل على قرض لنسد المتأخرات، وتم رفض هذا المُقترح لأنه مخالف للقانون، لأن السنة المالية تنتهي في شهر يونيو، وحاليا نحاول أن نحصل على أموال من كيان كبير ويتم رد الأموال لهم بعد ذلك”.

واستكمل: “آخر مرة اشتكى اللاعبون من عدم حصولهم على مستحقاتهم، كانت بعد مباراة الأهلي، وقالوا إن عليهم أقساط، ونحن نشرح لهم الوضع وطالبناهم بالصبر، ووصل الأمر أن يحصلوا على شيكات آجلة الدفع، هم لهم حقوق وعليهم التحمل لأيام وليس أشهر”.
