A Maurizio Sarri favourite at both Chelsea and Napoli, many have asked the question of what happens to Jorginho now that the manager who put so much faith in him is no longer managing him?

We might not actually find out, with The Times reporting that Sarri is pushing for his superiors at Juventus to bring the 27-year-old to Turin.

However, with Chelsea expected to be managed by Frank Lampard, some might suggest Jorginho has a part to play at Stamford Bridge. Indeed, looking at Lampard’s choice of formation at Derby and the style of football he has been trying to implement, perhaps the Italian will be the man to steer the ship, just like Tom Huddlestone did.

Like Sarri, Lampard favoured a 4-3-3 system and set up his Rams side to keep hold of the ball and be brave on it. With 53.4% possession, only four teams (Norwich City, Brentford, Swansea City and Leeds United) in the Championship averaged more (as per WhoScored).

It is something the Derby boss has spoken about before and you would expect him to take that to Chelsea.

Considering that, £58.5m-rated Jorginho (via Transfermarkt) could be the perfect midfielder for Lampard. After all, how many players in Chelsea’s squad and the Premier League in general are better than the former Napoli man when it comes to doing the above?

Jorginho has the confidence to receive the ball from anywhere on the pitch and the intelligence and ability to recycle it efficiently. It is no surprise that his 3,118 passes in the Premier League last season were the most made by a single player.

For most, a pointless statistic perhaps. But if you are going to be playing a possession-based game, then it certainly makes for good reading and shows Jorginho’s worth to this team.

If you cast your minds back to a summer afternoon in August 2015, you might well see a baby faced Reece Oxford containing the threat of a player who at the time was one of the best creative midfielders in the world.

The player was Mesut Ozil and he was busy being pocketed by the youngster who has since unfortunately not lived up to expectations.

However, like a certain Jadon Sancho, Oxford is a trailblazer for young English footballers.

The defender has gone away and refined some of his skills in the Bundesliga, first with Borussia Monchengladbach and then also with Augsburg. But he could now be on his way back to England.

The Telegraph have suggested that with a permanent move to Augsburg stalling, West Brom could swoop for the 20-year-old.

It’s a transfer that could see him reunited with former manager Slaven Bilic who of course has just taken charge at the Hawthorns.

Their initial time together may not have been particularly beneficial for either party but Oxford is now a more mature and disciplined player than he was under Bilic previously.

He’s still an incredibly raw individual but it’s a potential signing that could be game-changing for their promotion hopes.

Reflecting upon the numbers Oxford produced during the eight times he played in the Bundesliga last term, there is some huge promise to be seen, especially from someone who has still only played 28 senior matches.

The statistic that stands out most is the number of fouls he makes per game. At a rate of 0.5 per match, it shows he has a tremendous amount of discipline for someone so young.

If you compare that to the current members of Albion’s backline, it isn’t bettered by anyone, something that supplements the huge role he could have as the club look to achieve promotion next term.

Craig Dawson made 1.1 fouls per game in 2018/19 whilst Ahmed Hegazi made a further 0.8. Kyle Bartley also made 0.9.

As a result, it’s evident that Oxford would offer a more calming nature among the defence, an attribute that was lacking under Darren Moore.

Two other areas that particularly catch the eye are the number of clearances and long passes he makes.

The two stats are near in tandem with each other and to put things into perspective, only Hegazi who made 6.1 clearances per match completed more than the West Ham man did in the Bundesliga.

Oxford did play far less, but it gives an insight into what he can bring to the Hawthorns.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is trying to oversee a difficult period for the club which could well see a wealth of changes within the Old Trafford club’s squad, as big players seek moves away and the club’s management look for big players to come in and make a difference.

United have as yet only added Daniel James to the ranks, but it is a move which seems to spell out a different transfer strategy from the club.

That strategy seems to be being carried through too with the potential signing of Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who could be set to join the club in a move worth an initial £42.5m.

And while here in the Tavern we feel it’s a good signing, Wan-Bissaka has shown in recent weeks with England that he is far from the finished product United might seek.

The Red Devils will need to show patience with a player who only burst onto the scene last season at Selhurst Park, with the 21-year-old amassing an impressive 35 Premier League appearances.

However, Wan-Bissaka is still very much a raw talent, and we have seen in the under-21’s for his country this past week that he has a mistake in him, while positionally, he still has a lot to learn. Indeed, Aidy Boothroyd even said the saga surrounding him had an impact on some of his performances.

When we look around the Premier League at the top right backs such as Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, you’d have to say Wan-Bissaka is some way off reaching that level as it stands, considering the fact the former has played in two European cup finals and the latter has struggled after a mini-transfer saga.

All the tools though are in place for the Palace youngster to succeed at Old Trafford. His pace, athleticism, and ability to create chances – three assists last season is not too shabby at all – all mark him out as someone who can fulfil the needs of the modern full-back.

In the long-term, all the signs point to this being money well spent by United.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are confident that Divock Origi will sign a new five-year contract with the club.

Origi’s future has been the subject of recent speculation with Real Betis said to be interested in a swoop for the Belgium international.

However, according to Football Insider, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp recently held talks with the attacker on holiday and a new deal is now in the offing.

Origi was far from first choice at Anfield last season due to the presence of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane in the final third of the field.

The 24-year-old still managed eight goals in 22 appearances for the Reds during the 2018-19 campaign, though, including a brace against Barcelona in the semi-finals of the Champions League and late goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

After being at the heart of the AS Monaco side that thrilled all in their run to the Champions League semi-finals back in 2017, Tiemoue Bakayoko’s career took a huge nosedive following a move to Chelsea.
