A sweet Wednesday night in Munich was slightly soured for Liverpool, who saw captain Jordan Henderson having to be taken off after suffering an ankle injury.

While his departure didn’t really impact the result as the Reds rode on Sadio Mane’s brilliance to progress into the Champions League quarter-finals, an injury at this point could be worrying. Indeed, according to the club’s official site, he suffered a twisted ankle, though the extent isn’t yet.

However, thanks to their varied options, Liverpool have players to fall back upon. Indeed, a player who could be blessed by this unfortunate incident is Naby Keita, seemingly exiled from the starting XI in recent weeks.

The summer signing hasn’t proven to be as effective as Jurgen Klopp thought he would but is getting the slow grind towards immersing into the system. Keita now has the opportunity to prove his ability and be the hard-working midfielder who can take the pressure of their front-three.

Like Fred at Manchester United, he’s also had enough time to adapt to the Premier League’s conditions and is now primed to make his mark. He scored six goals and assisted five in the Bundesliga last season and will want to replicate similar numbers in the final stretch of the season.

A creative midfielder who adds more fuel to the attack, Keita now needs to take control and dictate Liverpool’s midfield in the next couple of weeks. The midfielder’s dominating potential is well known, but the next few months will determine whether he’ll thrive at Liverpool in the long term or be discarded as Jurgen Klopp’s failed experiment.

If he’s ever going to prove he’s worth the money, now’s the time.

استقر مجلس إدارة النادي الأهلي برئاسة محمود الخطيب على تعيين ‏كيفين جونسون ليكون مساعد لبيتسو موسيماني بعد رفض رولاني موكوينا.

وكان بيتسو موسيماني المدير الفني الجديد للنادي الأهلي قد طلب من رولاني موكوينا القدوم إلى القاهرة والعمل ضمن جهازه المعاون كمدرب مساعد مثلما كان معه في صن داونز.

وطلب موكوينا مهلة للرد على عرض بيتسو موسيماني، إلا أنه في النهاية أعلن رغبته في الاستمرار مع الفريق الجنوب إفريقي.

ويشغل كيفين جونسون منصب المدير الفني لفريق بلاك ليوبار الجنوب إفريقي، وسبق له تدريب أندية سوبر سبورت، وبلاتنيوم ستارز، وأمازولو.

ويستعد الأهلي لمواجهة إنبي مساء الأربعاء المقبل ضمن منافسات الجولة 32 من بطولة الدوري الممتاز.

Changes are happening at Parkhead next season, that much is obvious. 

However, why change with something which isn’t broken? Indeed, that’s a mentality which Neil Lennon and those planning upstairs should keep in mind while shaping Celtic’s team. They already have some bright talents capable of taking it up a notch.

Among those blooming talents is star loanee Oliver Burke. After arriving at the winter transfer window, the 21-year-old’s taken Celtic Park by storm and looks to be the kind of player many thought he’d turn into upon leaving Nottingham Forest for RB Leipzig in 2017. In just nine appearances, he’s scored four goals and glittered up their attack with his presence, looking a cut above pretty much everyone else in Scotland.

However, with his tenure set to end next summer, the Bhoys have a decision to make.

According to reports from the Birmingham Mail, Celtic are hopeful of signing him on a permanent basis from the Baggies in the summer. Allegedly after Darren Moore’s departure, Burke’s unsure about returning to West Brom and is rallying for the move north, in what could be a happy marriage.

However, the Hoops will need to shell out a decent fee for his services. Indeed, having failed to splash the cash on John McGinn over the summer, Peter Lawwell and those behind the scenes have to prove they can move on in the transfer market.

It might be costly, but one which almost guarantees big rewards. Burke’s already settled into Celtic Park really well in the last few months, becoming popular with fans while also forming nice chemistry with his attackers. He’s comfortable on the ball, can run past defenders and create chances from far afar.

Burke compliments James Forrest as well as new sensation Odsonne Edouard really nicely in the final third. A creative, sparkling figure who can create and score goals at will, Burke seems primed to get even better and Celtic should definitely want him at his best.

حرص بعض لاعبي الزمالك على إظهار دعمهم لرئيس القلعة البيضاء مرتضى منصور بعد صدور قرار بإيقافه 4 سنوات عن مزاولة أي نشاط رياضي من اللجنة المصرية الأولمبية.

وصدر قرار اللجنة الأولمبية بناءً على الشكاوى المقدمة من عدة جهات رياضية أبرزها النادي الأهلي ورئيس مجلس إدارته محمود الخطيب وأيضًا الاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم ولجنة الحكام.

ونشر طارق حامد عبر حسابه على “إنستجرام” صورة مرتضى منصور معلقًا عليها: “الجميع من أجل واحد وواحد من أجل الجميع” داعمًا بها رئيس الزمالك.

وحرص المغربي أشرف بن شرقي مهاجم الزمالك على توجيه رسالة الدعم السابق ذكرها أيضًا، فيما نشر محمود علاء صورة تجمعه بمرتضى منصور، أما زميلهما حازم إمام  فعلق على صورة لرئيس الزمالك قائلًا: “سنظل في ظهرك ولن يستطيع أحد أن يٌسقطنا”.

تواصل لجان التفتيش المشكلة من المختصين والخبراء ممن يملكون صفة الضبطية القضائية من وزارة الشباب والرياضة والجهاز المركزى للمحاسبات أعمالها الرقابية والتفتيشية على العديد من الهيئات الرياضية في مختلف المحافظات بدءاً من صباح اليوم الأحد وتستمر خلال الفترة المقبلة.

وتضمنت أعمال التفتيش اليوم الأحد العديد من الهيئات أبرزها أندية الأهلى والزمالك واللجنة الأوليمبية المصرية واتحادات المصارعة والتجديف وسموحة والمنظمة المصرية لمكافحة المنشطات (النادو) وغيرها من العديد من الهيئات الشبابية والرياضية في جميع محافظات الجمهورية.

وأبدى مسؤولو الأهلى والزمالك وسموحة واللجنة الأولمبية ومختلف الأندية والاتحادات الرياضية اليوم تعاوناً تاماً مع لجان التفتيش في تقديم المستندات والأوراق والملفات والدفاتر اللازمة لاستكمال عمل تلك اللجان.

وتم الاتفاق مع بعض الهيئات الرياضية على استكمال تسليمها لطلبات اللجنة غداً الإثنين تمهيداً لعمل ومراجعة التقارير النهائية متضمنة أعمال الفحص المالى والإدارى لكل هيئة على حدة.

وفى ذات السياق عقد الدكتور أشرف صبحي أمس اجتماعاً مطولاً مع ممثلي لجان التفتيش لحثهم على المتابعة الدقيقة لكافة المستندات والدفاتر لجميع الهيئات فضلاً عن تكثيف عمل تلك اللجان حتى تستطيع الانتهاء من التفتيش على جميع الهيئات الرياضية والشبابية واتخاذ الإجراءات القانونية المناسبة تجاه كافة الوقائع بالتنسيق مع مختلف الجهات والمؤسسات الرقابية في الدولة.

جدير بالذكر أنه وفى ضوء التنسيق الذى يجريه وزير الشباب والرياضة مع مختلف الجهات المعنية فقد صدر قرار وزير العدل القرار رقم 6741 لسنة 2020 بتخويل العاملين والمختصين من وزارة الشباب والرياضة أعضاء لجان التفتيش صفة مأمورى الضبطية القضائية وذلك حتى يتسنى لهم مباشرة أعمالهم التفتيشية والرقابية على مختلف الهيئات الرياضية واتخاذ الإجراءات القانونية المناسبة تجاه مختلف الوقائع التي تتبين لهم خلال سير عمل تلك اللجان خلال الفترة المقبلة.

Taking a risk with Ryan Yates has certainly paid off, hasn’t it? Since Martin O’Neill gave him a chance in the Forest side, he hasn’t looked back, and what a decision it was the manager.

It was a brave choice to give the 21-year-old an opportunity in the centre of the park where usually experience is key, particularly in the Championship. However, since making his first appearance against Reading he’s fit in well and has solved an issue the club could have spent millions fixing.

Yates wasn’t in a single matchday squad until their 4-1 victory over Leeds in January, but here he is, having now started the last eight games. He’s a product of the youth academy, and that’s endeared him to the fans even more, bringing more positivity to the City Ground than there was before Martin O’Neill.

Forest sit 11thin the Championship and don’t have much of a chance at reaching the play-offs, so it’s obvious investment is needed in the summer to catch up with clubs above them. By promoting Yates into the first team, it means the club don’t have to buy someone like him in the summer, and instead they can concentrate on other areas.

His success also sends out a great message to the rest of squad, saying ‘if you work hard enough, you’ll get your chance’. This will keep existing first-choice players on their toes and give confidence to other young or out-of-favour players.

The Forest fans will always have a greater connection with one of their own, so promoting him, while saving money and sending out a positive message to the rest of the squad is a masterstroke that can gift O’Neill success in the long run.

Aston Villa’s Andre Green has looked a changed player ever since returning to Birmingham following his short stint at Portsmouth last year and manager Dean Smith hasn’t hesitated in making him part of the plan to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Green has made an immediate impact since his return, scoring a thrilling stoppage-time equaliser against Sheffield United at the beginning of February. Indeed, as fans reading this will have been hugely frustrated by the amount of money wasted on big-name signings over the years, seeing a youngster flourish is great.

He has since then been in and out of the starting lineup but has been a key contributor to the recent success of the Villans, which have seen them win four games on the bounce, including a famous derby win at St Andrew’s earlier this month.

Green’s versatility and pace have even helped Smith adjust his team on occasions due his ability to play on both flanks, although he might be more threatening on the right-wing.

Nonetheless, it has helped and improved Villa’s attacking ability quite significantly and has made life easier for someone like Tammy Abraham, who at stages this season was forced to do and create everything on his own due to a lack of creativity in the team.

But since the return of Green and captain Jack Grealish, Villa have looked a completely new team and are in a good position to earn a spot in the playoffs. The momentum they have at the moment will certainly inspire them to see the season out on a high note and the comprehensive victories in recent weeks will add as a warning to opposition teams, especially ones that have to visit Villa Park.

Having come through the system at Aston Villa, Green has been in need of a proper mentor in the form of a manager to get properly get his career up and running and Smith appears to be just the guy to take Green’s game to a new level and make him a recognised footballer for Villa.

Manchester City fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on Phil Foden, after the attacking midfielder made his first Premier League start in the 2-0 win over Cardiff on Wednesday evening.

The teenage prospect had only previously featured for the Cityzens in the cup competitions from the first whistle, but he was handed his first league start by Pep Guardiola against the Bluebirds and he performed excellently.
