According to The Daily Echo, Southampton midfielder Stuart Armstrong is in line to be available for the Premier League clash against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday having missed the loss against Cardiff City earlier this month.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the 26-year-old has been a regular in the side since Ralph Hasenhuttl was appointed as Saints boss at the beginning of December, but he missed out on the squad for the first time against the Bluebirds because of a minor calf strain, as per The Daily Echo.

However, The Daily Echo report that the Scotland international took part in the warm weather training camp in Tenerife and having seemingly come through that unscathed, he could be in line to make his return to the starting XI against the Gunners.

The south coast outfit are certainly in need of a positive result given that the reverse against Neil Warnock’s men at St Mary’s before their trip to the Canary Island saw them slip back into the relegation zone.

Will he start?

It may well depend on what formation and tactics Hasenhuttl decides to go with.

The form and emergence of James Ward-Prowse in recent weeks has certainly meant that competition for places in the middle of the pitch is stronger than ever, and if the Austrian goes for a more conservative approach in north London then it could mean Armstrong has to settle for spot on the substitutes’ bench.

That said, if the 51-year-old fancies taking the game to the hosts and tries to take advantage of a defence that has looked leaky at times this term, then the former Celtic man is someone who can make an impact in the final third from the beginning.

Loads of Leeds fans have been reacting to an update on the fitness of Jack Clarke, who is set to return to outdoor training next week.

Clarke has been one of the most exciting parts of this exhilarating season at Elland Road, as the teenager looks more than capable of becoming a true Leeds great.

Born and raised in Yorkshire, it’s no surprise fans are very fond of the 18 year-old, and he has bagged two goals and two assists this season despite starting just four Championship games.

He was stretchered away from the sideline during the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough though, and fans were extremely worried over the youngster’s future.

According to Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post, the winger was suffering from a virus, and has been doing indoor gym work this week, before returning to outdoor training next week.

This will come as a huge relief to Marcelo Bielsa, who is already without Kemar Roofe for an estimated eight weeks due to a knee injury.

Liverpool swept Watford aside at Anfield for the third year running on Wednesday, and Fabinho proved that he is now the Reds’ most important midfielder with a Mascherano-esque performance.

Liverpool desperately needed a big performance and result on Wednesday night, and that’s exactly what they got.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was magnificent, Virgil van Dijk was his usual self with an extra dose of goals and Mohamed Salah looked back to his best despite not finding the back of the net.

No one impressed more than Fabinho though, who completely dominated the middle third and proved once and for all that he is the star man in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.

Mascherano 2.0?

Fabinho had to wait for his chance at Anfield, as the 25 year-old didn’t start a Premier League match until late October, but he has not looked back since breaking into the side.

He produced a stunning performance at home to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League, but his true breakout came in December, when he dominated wins against Manchester United and Wolves.

The Brazilian international has since been forced to fill in at right-back and centre back, both of which he has done with little difficulty, and Wednesday’s performance felt like the culmination of everything he has learned so far under Klopp.

The ex-Monaco ace was tenacious in the tackle, read the game expertly, and most importantly he always looked forward with the ball, breaking lines with high-tempo, incisive passing.

Liverpool have not had a truly elite defensive midfielder since Javier Mascherano left the club back in 2010, but Fabinho might even be better than the feisty Argentinian, as his skills on the ball are far superior.

Bad news for Henderson

His form could be bad news for Jordan Henderson – the two don’t really fit in the same team because they attempt to cover the same spaces, which sacrifices attacking returns.

Negative passing is always the most common criticism levelled at Henderson, and it was one that you simply cannot fire at Fabinho as he constantly looks over the top to his pacey wingers.

The Brazilian international is well and truly coming into his own, and with fans calling him the midfield version of Virgil van Dijk, it could be very hard for Henderson to force his way back into the side.

It’s been one hell of a journey for Rangers, hasn’t it? Liquidation in 2012 then up from the third division to the Premiership in five seasons, but they’re yet to win a major trophy and the Scottish Cup would prove they’re truly back.

Since returning to the Scottish top division in 2016 they’ve reached the semi-finals of every League Cup and Scottish Cup they’ve played in, 5 in total. This year they’ve drawn Aberdeen in the quarter-finals and the replay is to be played next Tuesday at Ibrox, so it’ll be massive for the club and the fans alike.

Watching Celtic win the last seven Scottish Premierships, last two Scottish Cups and last three Scottish League Cups will have been a nightmare for the Gers, and Steven Gerrard will hope to end his club’s heartache this season to get the monkey off their backs. After the draw at Aberdeen on the weekend, his players will have the confidence they can win the tie and progress to the semi-finals.

Progression would not only mean a spot in the final four but confirm confidence that Rangers are moving in the right direction with Gerrard. They’ve finished third in each of their two seasons back in the top flight, but now sit second eight points above their Scottish Cup opponents who are third.

The gap between the top two that used to be clear before Rangers’ fall is now becoming closer again.

The distance between Celtic and the Gers is eight points too, so the gap is still there, but with Brendan Rodgers leaving it’s Rangers who appear to be the most organised team at the moment. All Gerrard and his team need to do now is add the Scottish Cup to their comeback climb and then next stop is the big one – the Scottish Premiership.

وخسر طنطا من الأهلي بهدفٍ وحيد في إطار منافسات الجولة 30 من الدوري.

وقال رضا عبد العال خلال مقابلة معه على قناة “أون تايم سبورت”: “أنا تحدثت بانفعال بعد الهدف الذي سجله كهربا اليوم وهو لم يتقبل ذلك”. وتابع: “أعذر كهربا بسبب الضغط الواقع عليه وانا قبلت إعتذاره، وهو قال لي كلمة غير لائقة وأنا رددت عليه بنفس الطريقة وإعتذر لي وأنا قبلت”. 

وكان كهربا قد سجل هدفًا للأهلي في الشوط الأول لكن الحكم أحمد حمدي ألغاه بعد الاحتكام لتقنية الفار.

وأضاف: “لكنه جاء وقبل رأسي واعتذر والمياه عادت لمجاريها ولا يوجد موضوع”.

Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Niall Ennis impressed and scored twice for the U23s in their 3-1 win against their Southampton counterparts at Molineux on Monday night, and his display suggested he is ready to following in Morgan Gibbs-White’s footsteps.

On the chalkboard

Well, the 19-year-old made his first-team debut as a late substitute in the FA Cup replay win against Shrewsbury Town last month, but aside from that and some outings in the EFL Trophy he has had to settle for appearances in the Premier League 2 this term, netting eight times.

This was the case again on Monday in what was a top-of-the-clash, but it was the hosts who came out on top with the teenager playing a huge part in his team picking up all three points.

Ennis opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a simple tap-in, but it was his second that was particularly special as he weaved through some Saints players outside the penalty area before firing a low shot into the far corner.

He came close to netting his hat-trick before he was denied by the woodwork, in a display that surely would have impressed Nuno Santo.

Big chance incoming?

Gibbs-White has taken full advantage of the opportunity he was given earlier in the season, making 21 Premier League appearances this term – even if the majority of those have come from the substitutes’ bench.

His emergence proves that Santo isn’t afraid to blood youngsters if he feels they are good enough, and having already handed Ennis a few minutes last month it proves that the starlet is very much on the Portuguese manager’s radar.

With little to play for in the top flight aside from securing a seventh-place finish, the teenager should get the same chances that Gibbs-White has already had – who knows, he may even prove himself as a viable attacking option for the 2019/20 campaign.
