Fans react as ex-Southampton target Quincy Promes scores crucial Netherlands goal

[ad_pod ]

Former Southampton target Quincy Promes scored a crucial goal for the Netherlands in their 2-2 UEFA Nations League draw with Germany on Monday night, and fans on Twitter were quick to react.

Saints reportedly came close to bringing the talented attacker to St Mary’s during the January transfer window at the beginning of this year, but no deal materialised as Mauricio Pellegrino looked to add to his side’s firepower as they battled relegation.

While some supporters of the south coast outfit may have hoped that a move would perhaps be reignited during the summer, it didn’t prove to be the case and the Dutchman joined La Liga club Sevilla instead from Spartak Moscow.

The 26-year-old stepped up to the plate for the Oranje on Monday with a fine curling finish that was followed by an equaliser by Virgil van Dijk that ensure Ronald Koeman’s men qualified for the finals in Portugal next summer alongside the host nation, England and Switzerland.

Fans on social media were quick to have their say on Promes, and while one described him as “a baller”, another said he is a “really promising young talent”.

2 Crystal Palace players who’d fit right in at Liverpool

Liverpool and Crystal Palace’s seasons are having quite contrasting fortunes to say the least at the moment.

While the Reds continue to challenge at the top of the Premier League, the Eagles continue to struggle somewhat down near the bottom of the table as Roy Hodgson appears to be struggling to get the best out his side.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is blessed with a superb squad at his disposal this time around, and it would be little surprise to see the Reds right in the Championship mix come the end of the season.

However, we at the Transfer Tavern think that a few new signings wouldn’t go amiss for the Reds, and with the mention of Palace, we believe a couple of Eagles players have the potential to fit right in with the squad at Anfield.

With that thought in mind, we’ve taken a look at TWO Crystal Palace players who would fit right in at Liverpool…

Wayne Hennessey

Not the obvious choice, but Hennessey has proved himself to be quite the goalkeeper over the last few years, and with the Reds only really having Brazilian Alisson as a reliable stopper, Hennessey would be a smart signing.

Big, a an excellent shot stopper, and with plenty of experience, the former Wolves man would be the ideal number two at Anfield.

Wilf Zaha

A more obvious choice but a player who would fit in with most teams in the top flight, Zaha has been the main man once again for Palace and his manager Roy Hodgson.

Lightning quick, excellent with the ball, and now adding goals to his game when needed, Zaha would surely relish the chance to go and play with the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane at Anfield.

Manchester United fans wished their club had signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang instead of Romelu Lukaku

[ad_pod ]

Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to slam their club for signing Romelu Lukaku instead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, after the Gabon international hit a match-winning double against Tottenham in the north London derby.

The brace takes the former Borussia Dortmund man’s tally to 10 Premier League goals this season, where he now tops the scoring ranks ahead of Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero.

On the other hand, a player who cost significantly more than Aubameyang in Romelu Lukaku has spent more time falling over his own touch this season than finding the back of the net, and Red Devils’ supporters aren’t happy that their club signed the Belgian instead.

United’s faltering £75m striker has scored just five goals this season, although his goal against lowly Southampton did help take the club a point clear of Leicester into seventh.

Let’s take a look at some of the best tweets…

Opinion: Tottenham should sign PSV Eindhoven forward Hirving Lozano

[ad_pod ]Tottenham should make an astonishing move for PSV Eindhoven forward Hirving Lozano, who has been making headlines across Europe in recent years for his eye-catching but consistent displays.

What’s the word, then?Â

The Mexican international is no flash in the pan – he is the real deal and has been proving that for some time now. Lozano has recorded an astonishing 14 goals in all competitions already this season and we’re only midway through December, showcasing his ability to deliver the goods week in, week out.

Tottenham have been proactive in signing young stars in recent season, moving quickly and shrewdly to acquire the talents of names such as Dele Alli and Davinson Sanchez, both of whom are thriving under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino.

We have also seen players such as Harry Kane, Kyle Walker and Erik Lamela mature into exquisite international-class footballers, having previously been decent players but who were perhaps guilty of lacking substance before Pochettino got his hands on them.

What could Lozano offer Spurs?

As aforementioned, the 23-year-old is perhaps having the season of his life after particularly making waves in Russia at the World Cup. Lozano scored one goal and set up one more for Mexico at the biggest tournament in football, cementing his status as one of Europe’s finest goal machines at the moment.

However, he hasn’t just starting finding form out of nowhere. He also managed to hit 19 goals for the Dutch side PSV last season, whilst he also scored three times in two starts for his country in qualifying for the aforementioned tournament.

Lozano also recently scored against Inter in the Champions League to help Spurs progress, which as you can see in the comments to the attached tweet, endeared him to the north London club’s fans by some lengths – he’d be a cult hero at the club before he even kicks a ball for them if he were to sign.

Queens Park Rangers must make January approach for Browne

[ad_pod ]

According to The Sun, West Ham United attacker Marcus Browne is a loan target for a number of Championship clubs, and Queens Park Rangers should ensure that they are in the hunt for the Englishman.

What’s the word, then?

Browne is currently on loan at Oxford United, and has been in excellent form for the League One outfit during the first half of the 2018-19 campaign.

Indeed, the 21-year-old has scored seven times and registered four assists in 23 appearances for Karl Robinson’s side in all competitions this term.

Who are the best away fans in the Championship? Playmaker FC’s Thogden gives his top 10 in the video below…

Oxford want to keep Browne for the remainder of the season, but according to The Sun, West Ham are considering cutting the loan short in January before sending him to a Championship club for the remainder of the campaign.

West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, Stoke City, Derby County and Bristol City have all been credited with an interest.

However, QPR should ensure that they are in the hunt for a player who is capable of starring in the second tier of English football.

What is Browne’s history?

Browne belongs to West Ham, coming through the youth system with the Hammers before making his first-team debut in August 2016.

The attacker has not been seen in a West Ham shirt since debuting in the Europa League, but seems to be getting some valuable first-team action at Oxford.

Former Hammers defender Rio Ferdinand recently drew attention to Browne’s form, and the pair are regularly seen in contact on social media.

Browne, who has scored 11 times in 45 games for West Ham’s Under-23 side, will certainly feel that he can make the step into the Championship.

And QPR, who are only five points off the playoff positions in the second tier, should make a strong play for the versatile attacker at the start of 2019.

Liverpool fans are enjoying Fabinho and Jordan Henderson’s midfield partnership

Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to express their approval of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho’s partnership in midfield, after the duo were in dominant form as they swatted Newcastle aside by four goals to nil.

It is only one of a handful of times that the summer signing has started alongside the Reds’ captain this season, with much of the debate being over which one of the two should start in the team, with no one really considering the prospect of them playing together.

Jurgen Klopp looks to have stumbled across an extremely effective midfield pairing, however, as the £44m Brazilian international’s clever defensive work allows the England international to be more adventurous and play the ball forward more.

It also allows the Premier League leaders to have a solid midfield base for their attackers to express themselves freely, as they feel comfortable with the security behind them.

Henderson has taken loads of stick from fans all season, but plenty are changing their minds about the skipper, as you can see from the Twitter reactions down below…

Tottenham’s clash with Wolves should serve as an audition for ideal Pochettino signing

Tottenham are in a great run of form, but they’re set to face their toughest challenge in a while on Saturday in the form of a game against Wolves.

Wolves have taken points off of some big teams this term, and in terms of personnel, they’ve got one of the better squads in the Premier League outside of the top six.

In particular, Ruben Neves has been brilliant since he moved to Molineaux, and on Saturday, the game should serve as an audition for the Portuguese – as he’s perfect for Tottenham.

A modern midfielder in every sense of the word, Neves is the kind of player that would be right at home in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield. A fantastic passer of the ball, Neves would serve as the perfect player to help link the Tottenham defence and attack, with his range of through-balls, lobbed passes and simple, short deliveries serving to help Wolves tick.

He’s got incredible technique, and so whether you’re asking him to play a short pass, a cross-field pass or, indeed, a set-piece at goal, the 23-year-old is almost always the ideal man for the job.

Significantly, contextually, Tottenham have a particular need for a player like Neves. They’re lacking depth and quality in the midfield, and in particular, they’ve got a lack of technical skill in the heart of their team. Neves, then, could command a starting role at Spurs, and given the Lilywhites’ lack of signings over the summer, he’d be a worthy capture in January.

Neves has been in good form this season, and he’d be right at home at Tottenham.

Opinion: Liverpool could inflict further misery on Chelsea with Callum Hudson-Odoi deal

The form of Mo Salah at Liverpool has served as a cruel reminder of what might have been for Chelsea.Â

First Chelsea were made to rue their decision to offload Kevin de Bruyne and now they find themselves staring at another Premier League superstar who they let slip through the net.ÂIt’s becoming an unwelcome trend at Stamford Bridge in an era in which both De Bruyne and Salah would easily command transfer fees in excess of £100 million.

But have Chelsea learned their lesson? Well, a genuine answer to that particular question will only emerge as time passes, but the decision to part with £58 million for Christian Pulisic hints that a familiar mistake could be in the offing.

Indeed, in light of Chelsea’s decision to sign Pulisic, journalist Daniel Storey revealed that Callum Hudson-Odoi may well seek a £25 million transfer as competition for a place in Maurizio Sarri’s starting XI continues to intensify.

Chelsea’s apparent refusal to lend opportunities to aspiring young players has been an unwanted theme at the core of their recent history, one which is in stark contract to Liverpool’s youth policy.ÂThat the likes of Raheem Sterling, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all risen through the ranks and into the senior squad at Anfield speaks volumes about their willingness to trust in genuine talent.

If Hudson-Odoi is indeed available for £25 million, that policy may well play into their hands. Whether Liverpool would be interested in the 18-year-old wonderkid is another story altogether, but considering the enormity of his raw talent and his attractive price-tag it’s fair to say Jurgen Klopp should be strongly considering a move.

Hudson-Odoi is a left-winger by trade with the ability to play as a number ten or on the right-wing, where he can utilise his blistering speed and tight ball control to bypass opponents and unsettle defenders with flair and incisive vision. Anybody who has seen him in full flow will be acutely aware that he is a talent Chelsea simply cannot afford to lose, but the decision to sign Pulisic implies that something is afoot for the England youth international.

Salah’s unprecedented success at Liverpool has served to rub salt into Chelsea wounds so far this season but the Reds could yet inflict further misery onto their title rivals by clinching a deal for one of the most exciting prospects to emerge at Chelsea in recent memory.

Revealed: 74% of polled Crystal Palace fans think the club should sign Sao Paulo keeper Lucas Perri

[ad_pod ]

Crystal Palace currently have three strong options in the goalkeeping department for the first time in years, with Vicente Guaita, Wayne Hennessey and veteran keeper Julian Speroni all vying for the number one jersey at Selhurst Park.

However, it is the latter of those options who is the main concern. Speroni is soon to be entering his 40s, where retirement will most likely be on the horizon for the Argentinian stopper.

As a result of that, Roy Hodgson should be looking to get another player in that department who would act as an option for the future, but who also has bags of potential.

Coincidentally, Palace have recently been linked with a move for 21-year-old Sao Paulo keeper Lucas Perri, who would be an ideal candidate for the aforementioned role.

We recently asked fans of the Eagles if they’d like to see the Brazilian stopper arrive in south London to cover the impending loss of Speroni.

As shown by the results below, a whopping 74% of those who voted said that they would like to see Perri sign…
