Sheffield Wednesday fans all want Pelupessy dropped vs Hull

Sheffield Wednesday fans were really not impressed by Joey Pelupessy last week, and they’re begging Jos Luhukay to drop his very first Owls’ signing.

Pelupessy made the switch to Hillsborough in January, becoming Luhukay’s first coup as the new Owls boss.

While scoring against Millwall isn’t a bad way to start life in the Championship, the Dutch midfielder hasn’t exactly set the world alight, and he had a shocker in the season opener against Wigan last weekend.

Fans are now calling for him to be dropped for the clash against Hull, hoping for a bit more steel in midfield.

Pelupessy’s performance in the defeat to Wigan really doesn’t make for good reading, scoring the lowest rating of any of the 22 starters on Whoscored.com.

According to the ratings, the 25 year-old had zero shots, zero successful dribbles, made just one tackle and managed just 27 passes.

Luhukay may have to swallow his pride on this one, as you can see from some of the Twitter reactions down below…

January move for Adrien Rabiot might just push Liverpool past City in title race

Liverpool had a great transfer window as they brought in four top quality signings and if their first game is anything to go by, the Merseyside club look like they are going to be serious title contenders this year.

In midfield former RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita has finally arrived, while Liverpool also brought in Fabinho from Monaco to replace Emre Can.

Under Klopp’s high press and fast-paced style of play, Liverpool’s midfielders are going to have a crucial role to play.

While the permanent transfer window is now closed for English clubs, Liverpool have been linked with a future move for PSG’s contract rebel Adrien Rabiot according to the Liverpool Echo via the Mirror.

The Breakdown

Adrien Rabiot only has 12 months left on his current deal and has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants, Barcelona.

Left out of France’s World Cup squad, Rabiot is an incredibly talented midfielder and has turned into one of the better midfielders in Europe since making his debut in 2012 and is now valued at £45 million by Transfermarkt

If the Frenchman remains at PSG this summer, Liverpool must do all they can to bring him to Anfield in January, and if not that, sign him to a pre-contract agreement for next summer.

Capable of playing as a holding midfielder or even a bit further forward, Rabiot would add so much quality to Liverpool’s midfield.

Moreover, with his contract expiring, Liverpool can pressure PSG into selling him for cheap in January or even wait to get him on a free come next summer.

Would you take Rabiot at the club Liverpool fans?

QPR will have to hope Angel Rangel has enough left in the engine

Queens Park Rangers are close to signing free agent Angel Rangel according to West London Sport.

What’s the story?

Rangel has been at Swansea City for 11 years, amassing well over 300 league appearances for the Welsh club as they rose from League One to the Premier League.

However, Swansea decided not to renew the 35-year-old’s contract at the end of last season and the right-back has been a free agent since then.

Now according to the latest report, Steve McClaren is looking to sign the experienced defender as cover while Darnell Furlong is out injured.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”278881″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Kane’s Kryptonite & London’s Biggest Losers”]

Unspectacular but solid addition

Rangel can offer QPR serious experience having spent seven years in the Premier League and he also has knowledge of playing in the English football league.

However, at 35 and having only made four league appearances last season, he might not have much left in him.

If Rangel is just a quick fix to replace Furlong while he is out of action, there could be worse options and McClaren will be hoping he can still do a job at a high level despite the Spaniard entering the final days of his career.

Albrighton and Pereira slowly forming an effective partnership at Leicester City

James Maddison is the Leicester City summer acquisition that everyone is talking about after an impressive start to the season.

But Ricardo Pereira has also caught the eye with team-mate Marc Albrighton having recently spoken to Leicester City’s official club website about the partnership the pair are forming on the pitch.

The Breakdown

“I played with him [Pereira] against Valencia in pre-season and I felt like we complemented each other well,” said Albrighton (via Leicester City official club website) .

“Again, at the weekend [against Wolves], I felt like it was starting to click a little bit at times. It’s obviously difficult when you get new players in and you need to gel so early on.”

As mentioned by £9m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Albrighton, it is still early days, but even so the partnership between the two is looking promising.

Ultimately, Pereira and Albrighton complement each other to a tee.

With Pereira being a very offensive full-back and Albrighton a winger who can defend at an efficient level, the former is able to bomb forward and be an alternative outlet in attack while the latter can hold his position if necessary and cover in case of a counter attack.

With Danny Simpson ageing and his performances declining quite significantly since Leicester’s incredible title win back in 2016, manager Claude Puel desperately needed to add a right-back to the squad during the summer. And, in Pereira, the Frenchman has a very good one.

Veloso would give Wolves yet another midfield option

Wolverhampton Wanderers faced their toughest test of the season so far as they welcomed Manchester City to Molineux at the weekend.

Despite cruising to the Championship title last season, Wolves have endured a difficult start to life in the Premier League. A late Raul Jimenez header handed his side a point on the opening day against ten-men Everton before they were comfortably beaten by Leicester thanks to goals from James Maddison and a Matt Doherty own-goal. Things did not get any easier with Pep Guardiola’s in-form Manchester City making the trip to the Black Country, though Wolves certainly dealt with the Premier League champions well.

The transfer window may be shut, but Nuno Espirito Santo could still explore the free agent market to help get his season back on track. One man he could target is former Sporting Lisbon midfielder – Miguel Veloso.

Valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt, the 32-year-old is without a club after leaving Genoa in the summer. The former Portugal international made 22 appearances in the Serie A last season, scoring just one goal. Bringing him to Molineux this summer makes perfect sense.

Veloso is represented by Jorge Mendes who has close ties to the club which would give them the advantage in the race for his signature. The midfielder would have no trouble settling into life at Molineux due to the vast amount of Portuguese players already at the club. Veloso would slot in seamlessly along £5m signing, Joao Moutinho, as the pair climbed the youth ranks at Sporting Lisbon together.

The 56-cap Portugal international has won trophies in Portugal and Ukraine and would add some much-needed protection to the Wolves back line as he averaged 1.8 interceptions per game last season. Veloso would also compliment Ruben Neves perfectly in the engine room as he averaged four successful long balls per game in the Serie A last season (WhoScored).

Available for nothing – this one should be a no-brainer for Espirito Santo.

Wolves fans, thoughts?

Aston Villa fans on Twitter are buzzing about signing Tammy Abraham

Aston Villa announced the loan signing of Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on August’s second deadline day for EFL clubs, and Villa fans on Twitter were buzzing about the England international joining.

Abraham spent last season on loan with Swansea, scoring eight goals in 39 appearances as the Welsh club were relegated from the Premier League. However, his loan deal away from Chelsea before that was to the Championship with Bristol City during the 2016/17 season where he netted 26 times in 48 games in all competitions.

The 20-year-old was recently called up to Aidy Boothroyd’s England U21 squad for the crucial UEFA European U21 Championship qualifiers against the Netherlands and Latvia. He also has two caps for Gareth Southgate’s senior side despite his young age.

The signing certainly excited Villa fans and ramped up the expectations for boss Steve Bruce, who now surely has the ability in his squad to push for automatic promotion after the club lost out to Fulham in the playoff final last season.

West Ham fans react to Antonio’s latest comments

It has been a woeful campaign for West Ham so far, who have lost all four of their Premier League matches under Manuel Pellegrini.

A summer spending spree in excess of £100m has not done enough to spark improvements in a Hammers side that has conceded more top-flight goals than any other team since the start of last season, handing fans a bleak outlet.

The performances of a number of players within their squad have not been up scratch this season and many are not convinced by the comments from Michail Antonio, who told the club’s official website he believes he can rekindle the form shown a few years ago.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”291495″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Giroud Emulates Zidane & Rashford Emulates… Welbeck!”]

Scoring eight goals in the 2015-16 campaign and hitting nine in the following season, Antonio found the net just three times last term and now faces a battle for regular action after Pellegrini signed Lucas Perez, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson in the summer.

While Antonio believes he is still capable, some fans on social media expressed their doubt and we have gathered some of the best reactions below.

England fans react to Dier’s performance against Switzerland

Tottenham Hotspur fans continued to see a number of their players star for England during the international break, even seeing another member of their squad captain the side.

With Harry Kane sitting on the bench for the start of England’s 1-0 friendly victory over Switzerland, Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate handed the captain’s armband to his club colleague Eric Dier.

The 24-year-old has become a regular in the England set-up during recent seasons, earning a total of 34 caps, but many fans were not impressed by his performance at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.

In a scrappy and disappointing match, Dier struggled to catch the eye although England brought an end to their run of three consecutive defeats by sealing victory thanks to Marcus Rashford’s second-half volley.

Fans were understandably disappointed with the display from the Three Lions though and the midfielders in the side attracted particular criticism, with Dier regularly selected as the man to point the finger at.

Everton fans lavish praise on Nigel Martyn

Nigel Martyn made 97 appearances for Everton between 2003 and 2006.

The goalkeeper, who appeared 23 times for England, started his professional career with Bristol Rovers, before moving to Crystal Palace in 1989.

Martyn spent seven years with Palace ahead of a move to Leeds United, and was once again a favourite of the supporters during his time at Elland Road.

By the time that Martyn arrived at Everton, the stopper had already put a serious number of appearances on the board.

The now 52-year-old was actually forced into retirement in 2006, with an ankle injury preventing him from making more than 100 appearances for Everton.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”297163″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts MythBusting Rashford & Spurs Headache”]

Martyn was perhaps one of the most underrated goalkeepers of the Premier League era when considering what he brought to both Leeds and Everton.

Everton currently have England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford between the sticks, but the Merseyside club’s fans miss Martyn, who has been hailed on social media.

Revealed: 83% of Sunderland fans want Mbakogu signed after Wyke injury

Loads of Sunderland fans have been debating possible free agent signings after the injury to Charlie Wyke, and a whopping 83 per cent of fans think they should try to sign Jerry Mbakogu.

Sunderland had their first major setback of the season last weekend, as their slow starts finally came back to haunt them with a defeat at Burton Albion.

The result was made even worse by an injury to Wyke, who is now expected to 25-year-old goalkeeper.

Plenty of free agent strikers’ names have been tossed about, with veterans like Victor Anichebe, Darren Bent and Gabby Agbonlahor still looking for a place to call home.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”298768″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch The FFC Accy Show We”]

The Black Cats are building a fresh new squad though, so targeting an ageing, lazy striker would be a huge mistake.

A move for Mbakogu makes perfect sense, as the 25 year-old free agent is desperate for a move to Leeds.

Once dubbed ‘the next Drogba’ by his agent, Mbakogu scored 28 times in 92 league games for Italian side Carpi, and 83 per cent of fans think Jack Ross should make him an offer he can’t refuse.
