Spurs’ failed move for Gibbs-White this summer
Earlier this summer, Spurs made a surprise move for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, with a deal for his signature seemingly progressing rapidly at the time.
The Lilywhites had gone from being interested in a move for the 25-year-old, to agreeing a deal, and the player himself set for a medical with the North London outfit.
However, the deal wasn’t plain sailing, with the club’s decision to trigger his £60m release clause one that caused controversy with Reds owner Evangelos Marinakis.
The Greek businessman put a halt to the move, after claiming Frank’s side had made an illegal approach for his signature, subsequently threatening legal action against the club.

A deal for Gibbs-White’s signature subsequently fell apart, leading to the England international signing a new three-year contract at the City Ground – becoming their highest paid player in their history.
After missing out on his signature, other options have been considered by the Lilywhites’ hierarchy, leading to numerous other options being considered in recent weeks.
Spurs’ hunt for a Gibbs-White alternative this summer
Eberechi Eze has been the biggest target for Spurs in recent weeks, with the Crystal Palace star seemingly set for a departure from Selhurst Park between now and the end of the window.
Talks have been held between the two clubs over the last few days, leading to claims that an agreement has been reached to sign the 27-year-old, with a £60m fee currently being mooted.
However, he’s not the only player in their sights this window, leading to Roma talent Lorenzo Pellegrini being labelled as the latest target, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
They claim that Spurs have made an enquiry to land the Italian midfielder, who made 34 appearances for the Serie A outfit throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
It also states that his current employers will be looking to offload him this window, opening the door to a switch to North London with just one year remaining in his current deal at the Stadio Olimpico.
Why Spurs’ latest target would be their answer to Gibbs-White
After James Maddison’s ACL injury, it has left a huge hole in the number ten position at Spurs, highlighting the need for added reinforcements in such an area.
A move for Gibbs-White would’ve provided added competition for places in the side, but at present, Frank’s side don’t currently have a recognised attacking midfielder to fill the void.
However, after missing out on his signature earlier this window, the need for another talent in such an area is desperately needed before the window’s September 1st deadline.

Whilst Pellegrini won’t be many supporters’ first choice this window, at 29, he could be the perfect squad option, especially if Eze completes his own move to join the club.
To sweeten the deal for the Lilywhites faithful, he’s been labelled as a similar player to Gibbs-White by FBref, able to offer a cheaper alternative to the Englishman.
When delving into their respective stats from the 2024/25 season, the Italian managed to outperform him in numerous key areas, showcasing why he’d be a superb addition to the current squad.
Pellegrini, who’s been labelled “phenomenal” by former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri, managed to complete more of the passes he attempted, with more of which per 90 being defined as key passes.

Such figures highlight the quality he possesses with the ball at his feet, offering Frank’s side a more creative option to the Lilywhites within the final third.
He also completed more of the take-ons he attempted, whilst also completing more carries into the final third – subsequently being able to drive with the ball into dangerous areas, adding another dimension to the club’s attack.
The Italian has also completed more crosses per 90, whilst drawing more fouls per 90, showcasing the threat he carries when having the ball at his feet – with the opposition unable to contain his talents, as seen by the fouls drawn tally.
It’s unclear how much a deal for Pellegrini would cost this summer, but it’s evident that any move could be a shrewd piece of business that would aid the club in their hunt for success.

Glamorgan have appointed Richard Dawson as their interim head coach, following the sudden departure of Grant Bradburn last month over allegations of discriminatory behaviour.Dawson had most recently been part of the England Men’s white-ball coaching team, having previously overseen England Under-19s. He spent six years coaching Gloucestershire, securing promotion from Division One in 2019 and a T20 Finals Day appearance in 2020, before moving on to work with the ECB’s performance pathway in 2021.”I’m delighted to be joining Glamorgan as head coach for the coming season,” Dawson said. “I’ve got a good idea of how the club works having spent time with Welsh Fire over the years. I’m looking forward to getting involved with the players and coaches at the club and building on the success achieved in the 50 over competition last season.”Dawson, who was capped seven times in Tests, spent most of his playing career with Yorkshire, before short stints at Northamptonshire and Gloucestershire.He is currently working with the England Lions on their tour of Australia, and will then be involved at the Women’s Premier League before taking up his role with Glamorgan from March. O parlamentar destacou que a CPI pretende dar ouvido a todos.
– Vamos dar espaço não só para o que está acontecendo na investigação do MP-GO, mas também para ouvir representantes de entidades de futebol e das casas de apostas – afirmou.
Arcoverde detalhou as perspectivas entre os integrantes da comissão.
– Todos nós, membros desta comissão, estamos muito animados. Temos esta questão que vamos avaliar do MP-GO e acreditamos que não vamos só punir os responsáveis, mas também passaremos a acreditar em priorizar o combate ao crime. Também temos de cuidar de regulamentação das casas de apostas – disse o deputado.
Em seguida, o parlamentar foi taxativo.
– O Governo Federal falou há algum tempo em relação a regulamentar os jogos e isto tem de ser colocado em pauta para que evitemos manipulações como estas.

A reunião de alinhamento teve a presença do relator Felipe Carreras (PSB-CE), além de integrantes de suas respectivas equipes e de dois consultores.
André Figueiredo (PDT-CE), Daniel Agrobom (PL-GO) e Ricardo Silva (PSD-SP) foram designados vice-presidentes. A previsão é de que os depoimentos durem 120 dias. Ao final, será elaborado relatório com as conclusões da CPI ao Ministério Público ou à Advocacia-Geral da União, com objetivo de que promovam a responsabilidade civil e criminal dos infratores ou haja adoção de outras medidas legais.

A investigação sobre suspeita de manipulação de resultados teve início em novembro do ano passado. O mandatário do Vila Nova, Jorge Hugo Bravo, descobriu que jogadores do clube vinham sendo aliciados por um grupo de apostadores antes da partida contra o Sport pela Série B. O dirigente juntou provas da tentativa de manipulação e procurou os promotores que combatem o crime organizado no estado.
Oficial da Polícia Militar, Hugo Jorge Bravo descobriu que o atleta Marcos Vinícius Alves Barreira, apelidado de Romário, tinha sido aliciado. Como o jogador não foi escalado, tentou induzir algum companheiro de time a levar um cartão vermelho ou cometer um pênalti no seu lugar. O valor combinado, segundo depoimento de Romário, era de R$ 150 mil, com uma “entrada” de R$ 10 mil, conforme vídeo de seu depoimento divulgado no programa dominical “Fantástico”, da Rede Globo. Entre os vídeos,há ameaças de um integrante do esquema ao zagueiro Eduardo Bauermann, do Santos.
A investigação apontou que houve manipulações em jogos das Séries A e B do Brasileirão de 2022 e em partidas de Estaduais. O grupo pagava para que jogadores fizessem determinadas ações, como receber cartões amarelo e vermelho ou cometer pênaltis. Em paralelo, os integrantes apostavam em sites do ramo que esses lances ocorreriam durante os jogos e conseguiam lucros.
Há estimativas de que o grupo “investiu” R$ 8430,00 e somou ganhos de R$ 730.616,00. O MP-GO continuará a apurar o caso e não descarta que ocorreram manipulações de resultados em outros jogos de futebol. A Operação Penalidade Máxima está em sua segunda fase.

إمام عاشور يغيب في الفترة الأخيرة عن صفوف فريقه الأهلي، بسبب إصابته بفيروس A، ويخوض مرحلة من التأهيل للتعافي، خلال الوقت الحالي.
وقال عبد الواحد خلال تصريحات عبر قناة “أون سبورت 2” لبرنامج “هاتريك”: “كانت توجد مشكلة صغيرة حدثث، وهو لم يأخذ رد الفعل السليم، فحدثت فجوة، وبالمناسبة الفترة التي لم يكن ينضم معنا فيها للمنتخب لم يكن مستواه الفني كما هو الحال الآن”.
وأضاف: “إمام عاشور كان يفتعل أشياء خارج الملعب تثير جمهور الزمالك، فكان غائبا عن التركيز، وليس في مستواه، هو لاعب كبير ونجم وهو عنصر أساسي معنا في المنتخب”.
وتابع: “قبل تعرضه للإصابة، اعتذر للكابتن إبراهيم، والجميع يعمل لمصلحة منتخب مصر، ولا توجد أي أغراض من أي شخص داخل جهاز المنتخب تجاه أي لاعب”.
وأكمل: “عندما تولينا المسؤولية، الجميع قال إن هناك خلافات ستحدث بين التوأم ومحمد صلاح، لكن لم يحدث أي شيء، محمد صلاح يقوم بدور رائع جدًا معنا كجهاز، ورائع مع كابتن حسام، ومساند لنا”.

Cameron Green is unlikely to play any Sheffield Shield cricket before his County Championship stint with Gloucestershire as he continues to recover from back surgery.Speaking at the Australian Cricket Awards last month Green had flagged that his recovery was on track to have him available for Western Australia’s final Shield match against Victoria on March 15 as a batter only. But despite returning to the nets and hitting balls regularly over recent weeks, ESPNcricinfo understands that he is unlikely to be cleared to play before the end of the Australian domestic summer. WA are not expecting him to be available for the contest with Victoria or the Shield final if they qualify.Green has to get regular scans on his back to check on his progress before returning to play, having undergone spine surgery in October. Green made 174 not out in his second last Test match batting at No. 4 but Steven Smith’s triumphant return to that spot means Green will have to bat somewhere else if he plays in the WTC final against South Africa.Travis Head will also return to No. 5 after opening in Australia’s most recent Tests in Sri Lanka, meaning Australia will need another opener to partner Usman Khawaja. Sam Konstas is in the frame to return after missing selection in Sri Lanka and is keen to play in the County Championship but is yet to secure a deal.Green could possibly bat at No. 3 or No. 6 but that would displace either Marnus Labuschagne or Beau Webster. If the latter were to be left out, it would leave Australia without a fourth seam option, although that may not be a major consideration for a one-off Test in England in June. Josh Inglis’ recent run-spree across all formats makes him an enticing selection prospect for the final as well. Australia do not need to name a 15-man squad until May.
