– Jogar futebol favorece bastante a minha luta.

Luke Hollman bags maiden five-for as Sussex collapse after Tom Haines 156

Sussex lose last six wickets for 12 runs and three more after being made to follow on

An astonishing collapse by Sussex, who lost nine wickets for 97 runs, with their last six crashing down for just 12, allowed Middlesex to glimpse victory in their LV= Insurance County Championship match at Hove. Middlesex legspinner Luke Hollman took a career-best 5 for 65 on a flat pitch on which only six wickets had fallen in the opening seven sessions.Sussex, following on 357 runs behind, then lost Ali Orr, Ben Brown and Sean Hunt and closed on 88 for 3.Sussex started the third day on 103 without loss, chasing a mind-boggling 527 just to avoid the follow-on. A more realistic survival target was to get into the final day with first-innings wickets in hand.Fast bowler Blake Cullen broke through with the first ball of the second over of the day when he found the outside edge of Orr’s bat for keeper John Simpson to take the low catch in front of first slip. But after that Sussex had the better of the opening session and reached lunch on 217 for 1 with Tom Haines unbeaten on 109 – the fifth century of his career and the third of the season – and Brown 76 not out.Brown, anxious to use his feet to counter the spin of Hollman, was stumped ten minutes after the break. But the real Sussex implosion started at 250 when George Garton, possibly a little giddy-headed in his No. 4 position, swiped Hollman to deep midwicket. He looked so disappointed with his shot that he held his position at the crease for some moments before ripping off his gloves. It wasn’t going to get any better for the home side. At 272 the very promising Danial Ibrahim skied Sam Robson to midwicket for just 5. It was only legspinner Robson’s seventh first-class wicket, and came having made his highest score of 253 the day before. Then Middlesex took the new ball and Fynn Hudson-Prentice, who had hit a few pleasing drives, got one that lifted and left him from Tim Murtagh. At 308 Haines played a weary stroke and was caught behind off Murtagh, but not before he had reached 156, his highest first-class score, beating the 155 he made against Lancashire at Old Trafford at the start of the season.Delray Rawlins was bowled for a duck having a heave and Jack Carson, Oli Carter and Henry Crocombe followed almost immediately. Hollman then struck twice more in the second innings before Robson enjoyed another rare success by removing nightwatchman Hunt. Before play Sussex announced the retirement of seamer Stuart Meaker. Meaker, 32, who previously played for Surrey, was capped by England in two ODIs in 2011 and two IT20s in 2012.

Arteta could replace Havertz by unleashing Arsenal’s sensational "wizard"

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side travel to face Bournemouth tonight, looking to make it eight games unbeaten in the Premier League so far this season.

The Gunners travel to the South Coast off the back of a 3-1 victory over Southampton after going 1-0 down early on in the second half, before goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli secured the victory.

At present, Liverpool lead the way so far, but Arteta and his players sit just a point off Arne Slot’s side – hoping to close that gap with all three points at the Vitality tonight.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta

Before the recent international break, the Gunners achieved a run of four wins in a row, helping them maintain their title push whilst also allowing them to progress into the next round of various cup competitions.

It remains to be seen whether the two-week break will have had an impact on the club’s excellent form, or even the fitness levels of some of the first-team members.

Arsenal injury update ahead of Bournemouth clash

Martin Odegaard and Takehiro Tomiyasu are both set to miss out on the clash on the South Coast as confirmed by Arteta in his pre-match press conference yesterday morning.

Winger Saka limped off on international duty for England, picking up a suspected muscle problem, and subsequently missing the second game of the recent break against Finland.

Arteta confirmed in his pre-match press conference that the attacker’s injury ‘is not serious’ whilst adding that he had further tests on Friday ahead of the return of club football.

Martinelli is another player who suffered a scare during the international period, nursing a calf issue – before landing back in the UK on Thursday afternoon.

However, it’s unclear whether he will be available for the clash – with Arteta stating it will be a last-minute decision if the Brazilian plays any part in the meeting.

As for Havertz, he missed the international break due to a knee problem and could play some part, but it’s unclear if the issue will restrict him to limited minutes or if he’s able to feature whatsoever – potentially leaving the Gunners short in forward areas.

The man who could replace Havertz against Bournemouth

Belgian forward Leandro Trossard has been unlucky in recent weeks, dropping to the bench against Southampton despite registering a goal and an assist in his two previous outings.

Over the recent international break, the 29-year-old starred for his country, registering two goal contributions in the comeback draw with Italy in the Nations League.

However, with Arsenal’s return to Premier League action this weekend and the current fitness issues in the final third, Trossard could be handed a start in a central role, replacing Havertz after his recent knee issue.

He’s previously proven that he’s more than capable of producing the goods from a starting position, with the attacking “wizard”, as dubbed by journalist Charlie Haffenden, scoring in his last league start against Leicester City last month.

Trossard has already registered two goals in just four starts this season and as fortunate as the German talent’s injury situation may be, it’s handed the £90k-per-week ace a perfect opportunity to stake his claim for a start as a central striker.

Tonight’s meeting is undoubtedly another huge game in the club’s hunt for the Premier League title, with no margin for error given the form of Liverpool and Manchester City in recent weeks.

Arteta will be frustrated by the number of injuries currently within the squad, but hopefully, the players who are coming in to replace the unavailable talents will step up to the plate and do the business for the Gunners.

England bowlers deliver again before Jason Roy's 61 seals successive wins

Tymal Mills, Liam Livingstone and Moeen Ali shared seven wickets, as England dominated with the ball

Shahriar Nafees: England were disciplined, but Bangladesh played too many dot balls

England 126 for 2 (Roy 61, Malan 28*, Shoriful 1-26) beat Bangladesh 124 for 9 (Mushfiqur 29, Mills 3-27, Livingstone 2-15) by eight wicketsEngland continued their imposing start to the T20 World Cup with a second powerplay-inspired victory of the competition, as Bangladesh emulated West Indies in being overwhelmed in the opening exchanges of the contest before being dispatched in a low-key run-chase for an uncompetitive eight-wicket scoreline. While Bangladesh’s total of 124 for 9 was a significant step-up from West Indies’ 55 all-out in Dubai on Friday, the seeds of their downfall were all too familiar. Mahmudullah won the toss and batted first on what he described as a “belter”, but his team then ran aground on the spin-and-seam combo of Moeen Ali and Chris Woakes, who bowled unchanged through the powerplay for a game-breaking combined analysis of 3 for 27.Watch cricket live on ESPN+

Moeen continued a staggering start to his tournament. In a format where familiarity tends to breed contempt, he has now bowled all seven of his overs straight off the reel at the top of his two innings – four in a row against West Indies for 2 for 17, and a further three with 2 for 18 today. Liton Das tried briefly to hit him off his length with consecutive fours down the ground, but he scuffed a third such blow to deep-midwicket to depart for 9 from 8 balls before a rash swipe one ball later did for his fellow opener Mohammad Naim too.At the other end, Woakes thumped a two-paced deck with a typically proud seam and tight line, and when he extracted the priceless scalp of Shakib Al Hasan – via a top-edged pull and a superb leaping take from Adil Rashid – there was little that Bangladesh’s other two senior statesman, Mahmudullah himself and Mushfiqur Rahim, fellow veterans of every T20 World Cup since 2007, could do to change the narrative.Livingstone, I presume
Moeen’s impact at the top of England’s innings transformed the permutations for Morgan through the middle overs – particularly once it became apparent that the extra pace of Chris Jordan and – at that stage of the innings – Tymal Mills was offering a hint of a route back into the contest for Bangladesh. After conceding 12 and 11 runs respectively in their first forays, Morgan turned instead to the variations of Liam Livingstone, who skidded his third ball through Mushfiqur’s attempted reverse-sweep and extracted a crucial breakthrough on review.Afif Hossain followed in Livingstone’s next over – desperately run-out as Mills at backward square fumbled a simple pick-up and coaxed the batters in an aborted attempt at a stolen second. And such was the panic that Livingstone was creating, that Nurul Hasan all but ran himself out too from each of his first two balls. And his work was duly completed when Mahmudullah – Bangladesh’s last remaining hope – scuffed another ripping legbreak straight to point for 19 from 24.England successfully reviewed to remove Mushfiqur Rahim•Francois Nel/Getty Images

Slowness does it for Mills at the death
A minor dent to England’s progress followed when Rashid, entrusted with one half of the death overs in a worthwhile experiment, was bludgeoned with some success by the left-hander Nasum Ahmed, who targeted the short leg-side boundary for the only two sixes of the innings. But at the other end, Tymal Mills unfurled his full repertoire to stunning effect for final figures of 3 for 27. His impact was epitomised by the manner of his final two wickets – from consecutive balls right at the death of the innings. Mahedi Hasan was bounced out by a fierce short ball that brushed his glove and was given out on review; then one ball later, Mustafizur Rahman was confounded by the slowest of slow inswinging yorkers, to lose his leg stump for 0. The knowledge of Mills’ physical threat, allied to the subtlety of his wealth of variations, makes for a very potent package.Roy at the double
England’s only duff note against West Indies was the slight tangle they got in while trying to rush to their 56-run target. They made no such errors this time around. Jason Roy marked his 50th T20I cap with a rampant knock of 61 from 38 balls, his five fours and three sixes including a massive straight strike off Nasum to bring up his half-century. In adding 39 for the first wicket in 28 balls of the powerplay, he and Jos Buttler ended any fears of a twist in the tale.Dawid Malan had been overlooked in that West Indies romp, but his reappearance at No. 3 resulted in another typically fuss-free knock of 28 not out from 25, as he ticked along at a tempo that met the match requirements – nothing more, nothing less. Jonny Bairstow sealed the deal with a pull for four through midwicket with 35 balls left unused. The World No.1 T20I outfit are looking ominous in these early exchanges.

Approach made: If Greg Taylor leaves Celtic he might not be the only one

Despite victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League, Celtic’s week hasn’t been one full of positives away from the action with Greg Taylor’s future in doubt and one other now potentially joining him out the exit door next summer.

Celtic transfer news

Smashing Aberdeen 6-0 to reach the Scottish League Cup final and send a damning statement to their title rivals in the process, it seemed as though things couldn’t get better for Celtic. But then came the visit of RB Leipzig, who were brushed aside in sensational fashion as the Bhoys sealed a 3-1 victory in the Champions League.

It should be a week full of good news, but reports away from the pitch suggest that the Scottish Premiership champions could be set to be handed a double blow in 2025.

One of those could come courtesy of Taylor, with talks over a new Celtic contract reportedly reaching a stalemate recently. As things stand, the full-back is set to leave as a free agent in summer 2025, and he could be joined by another one of Brendan Rodgers’ stars.

Brendan Rodgers frustrated by "disappointing" behind-scenes issue at Celtic

It’s simply not acceptable and the boss is not happy.

ByHenry Jackson Nov 4, 2024

According to reports in Spain, Crystal Palace have already expressed their interest in signing Nicolas Kuhn, who just stole the show in the Champions League. Celtic, of course, saw their last talisman bid farewell to the Premier League last season when Matt O’Riley joined Palace’s rivals Brighton & Hove Albion. Now, Kuhn could follow suit.

Only arriving last January, Kuhn is beginning to truly burst into life at Celtic and has seemingly earned the attention of the Premier League as a result. With quite the decision to make, the winger could deal Rodgers yet another blow on the exit front, potentially joining out-of-contract Taylor out the door.

"Quick" Kuhn has finally found Celtic form

Having initially struggled to adjust following a winter arrival last season – scoring just twice in the Scottish Premiership in nine games – Kuhn put his first pre-season at the club to good use and is now stealing the headlines in top form.

Rodgers has been swift to praise his winger as a result too, telling reporters via Celts Are Here back in August: “I just think it’s time, isn’t it? I think we all expect people to adapt straight away, you’d love them to, whether they’re managers, coaches, or supporters.

“You want them to be ready immediately, but he came into the club during a challenging period in January. He had issues around his fitness and health, and everything else.

“He just landed in the middle of that difficult time, and it took him a little while. But he’s had a really good pre-season. He’s always been quick, one of the quickest players you’ll see, but I think now there’s more variety in his game, coming inside and out.”

With nine goals and 10 assists in just 16 games this time around, Kuhn has well and truly put any previous struggles behind him and become the latest star of the show at Celtic Park.

Ashwin, Suryakumar, Rohit shine as India earn hard-fought victory

Guptill, Chapman got fifties for NZ, but otherwise their batting struggled after being inserted at the toss

Karthik Krishnaswamy17-Nov-20212:03

Uthappa: Suryakumar is versatile and can move up and down the order

Daryl Mitchell is a seam-bowling allrounder who usually bats in the middle order, but for New Zealand’s T20 side he’s now an opening batter who barely bowls at all. Venkatesh Iyer is a seam-bowling allrounder who opens the batting for Kolkata Knight Riders, but on Wednesday night, making his India debut, he didn’t get to bowl, and walked in at No. 6.When Venkatesh faced his first ball in international cricket, India were threatening to lose a match that had seemed unloseable less than half an hour ago. With six balls left, they needed ten to win. And New Zealand, having used up all their main seam bowlers, threw the ball to Mitchell.Mitchell had earlier been out for a first-ball duck. Venkatesh had not been required at all until this point. Now they both had the chance to be the hero. Neither took that honour in the end. Venkatesh swatted the first legal ball he received for four, but was out next ball attempting a cute reverse-lap. Mitchell got that wicket, but he also sent down two big wides that reflected his rustiness as a bowler. Eventually, it came down to three off three, and Rishabh Pant, who had struggled to 13 off 16, stepped out and swiped Mitchell over mid-off to put an end to what had become an unexpectedly close contest. There had been fifties for Mark Chapman, Martin Guptill and Suryakumar Yadav, and a 48 from Rohit Sharma full of vintage strokeplay, as well as terrific bowling from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, R Ashwin and Mitchell Santner, but the end result came down to the bit-part players.Swing keeps New Zealand quiet
After a pair of outswingers to Guptill, Bhuvneshwar greeted Mitchell with an inswinger. Mitchell jabbed at the ball with no footwork, and the ball sneaked past his inside edge to knock back middle stump. That was India’s only wicket in the powerplay, but the ball kept swinging for Bhuvneshwar, Deepak Chahar and Mohammed Siraj, and all three made a concerted effort to bowl within the stumps. Chapman, New Zealand’s No. 3, struggled to break free of this strangulation, or even get off strike. After three overs, Guptill had faced just two balls, and after five overs, he had faced just six. At that point, Chapman was on 20 off 23, and New Zealand were 26 for 1.A partnership blossoms
New Zealand got going in the last powerplay over, when Chahar overused the slower short ball and conceded 15. There was only one boundary in the next four overs – shared between Ashwin and Axar Patel – but India conceded a spate of them after that, with Guptill extending his arms through a pair of lofted drives against Siraj, and Chapman putting Axar away for six and four in the 12th over and bringing up his fifty in the process. When Guptill and Chapman hit back-to-back boundaries around the 14th over, New Zealand were 110 for 1, and looking on course for 177, according to ESPNcricinfo’s Forecaster.1:12

Daniel Vettori: R Ashwin’s skill helped him set Chapman and Phillips up

Ashwin turns on the magic
But Ashwin had other ideas. He had already discovered that this pitch was offering grip and turn if he bowled the odd ball a little slower, and had beaten Chapman’s outside edge comprehensively in the seventh over with a dipping offbreak laden with overspin. He bowled another now, pitching on leg stump, and it beat Chapman’s leg-side heave to peg back his off stump. The next three balls were a probing examination of Glenn Phillips’ technique. Two offbreaks – the first going with the arm past the outside edge, the second ripping inwards to beat the inside edge and hit thigh pad – and then the carrom ball, angling in before straightening towards off stump. Phillips’ bat sliced across the line in defence, and the ball beat his outside edge to hit back pad – more or less in line with off stump, an umpire’s call verdict sending him on his way after he reviewed.Chahar and Siraj deny New Zealand big finish
Guptill was still in, though, and big sixes off Siraj and Bhuvneshwar in the 15th and 17th overs hurried him past 50 (he got there in 31 balls) and into the sixties. Guptill then nailed a massive drive into the stands beyond midwicket off Chahar at the start of the 18th, to bring up New Zealand’s 150.The momentum seemed to be going entirely one way, but Chahar struck a crucial blow the next ball, taking pace off to ensure a repeat attempt from Guptill ended up caught on the boundary. New Zealand’s innings thereafter went like a pricked balloon: scoring only 14 off the last 16 balls of the innings, as the new batters struggled for timing.Rohit launches off
Five overs into India’s chase, this seemed like the T20 World Cup transplanted into Indian soil. Win toss, chase, win handily. India were 50 for no loss by then, with the ball coming onto the bat and allowing Rohit to show off his range of back-foot shots. Horizontal-bat slap that leaves every fielder rooted to his spot? Yes. Open-faced steer to bisect backward point and short third? Yup. Pull into the stands? Are you seriously asking? The partnership between Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav put India on top•Getty Images

Suryakumar brings his wrists to the party
Rahul fell at the start of the sixth over, picking out deep square leg with a pull off Santner, and India sent in Suryakumar, presumably to go after New Zealand’s spinners. Soon, he was purring too, pulling off his trademark whips over midwicket off Todd Astle and Lockie Ferguson. At the halfway mark, India were 85 for 1.Trent Boult sent Rohit back in the 14th over with a slower bouncer paired with a cleverly-set leg trap, but Suryakumar continued to find the boundary frequently and hurry India towards their target. He got to his fifty off his 34th ball, and when Boult dropped him at long leg in the 16th over – a sitter off Tim Southee’s bowling – the end looked very near with India needing 23 off 24.But one good over can transform a game, and Boult delivered it, alternating yorkers with short balls into the body to concede just a single in three balls to Pant, before bowling Suryakumar behind his legs. Shreyas Iyer played two dots to end the over, and suddenly India needed 21 off 18 without a set batter at the crease. And much like New Zealand’s innings, India’s ground to a halt, possibly because of the ball growing softer. Ferguson and Southee conceded just 11 off the next 12 balls, the last of which brought the wicket of Shreyas, caught at long-off. And he crossed over with Pant while doing so, leaving the newbie on strike for the last over.We know what happened next, and as tortuous and hair-raising as it was, the Rohit-Dravid era had begun with a win, and India had ended a seven-match losing streak, across formats, against New Zealand.
