The three-match series will be staged in the UAE in January, clashing with the BBL

Several BBL clubs are facing a headache over the availability of their overseas players after Afghanistan confirmed that their three-match ODI series against Ireland will go ahead as planned in January, as part of the ODI Super League.Three regular Afghanistan internationals – Rashid Khan (Adelaide Strikers), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (Brisbane Heat) and Mohammad Nabi (Melbourne Renegades) – have signed deals for the whole of the BBL, while Melbourne Stars are set to announce Zahir Khan as their third overseas signing this week. The three-match series between Afghanistan and Ireland will be staged in Abu Dhabi. The exact venues for each fixture are unconfirmed at this stage, but matches will take place on January 18, 21 and 23.With a mandatory 14-day quarantine period on arrival in Australia currently in place for overseas travellers from anywhere other than New Zealand, it is highly unlikely that players will be able to take part in the series and return for the BBL playoffs from January 29-February 6.While Zahir Khan has only played one ODI in his career to date, Mujeeb, Nabi and Rashid are all key players for Afghanistan in 50-over cricket. It is possible that they could ask to opt out of the series, but such a move is made less likely with World Cup qualification points on the line through the ODI Super League.ALSO READ – Noor Ahmad: ‘I’m feeling like the luckiest cricketer in the world’A fifth Afghan player, Noor Ahmad, has signed for the Renegades for the start of the competition only, so his availability is unlikely to be affected. He is yet to make his international debut. For Ireland, confirmation that the series will take place comes as a significant boost. Since the Covid-19 lockdown, their men’s team has played only three matches – against England in July and August – with their whole home summer wiped out due to the pandemic.Negotiations are ongoing about a possible series in the UAE in December, initially planned to involve the hosts and Scotland in a tri-series. Cricket Ireland is understood to be keen to ensure that tour goes ahead, with centrally-contracted players back in training.Afghanistan v Ireland fixtures:January 18 – First ODI January 21 – Second ODI January 23 – Third ODI
Birmingham City head into the forthcoming League One season as a major sleeping giant, with the Blues more used to battling it out in the Championship, as opposed to playing the likes of Burton Albion in the third tier.
The relegated side cannot underestimate the challenge ahead, however, as teams are likely to raise their game when facing off against Chris Davies' men, in an attempt to pull off a scalp and embarrass the Blues.
Birmingham could, however, become more feared by their upcoming League One opponents by signing this attacking gem, who could also soften the potential blow of Paik Seung-Ho departing, by strengthening the midfield ranks.
Birmingham locking horns over soon-to-be free agent
According to a recent report by Birmingham World, Birmingham could be set for an intense transfer scrap with Championship side and near neighbours, West Bromwich Albion, over the services of Josh Windass this summer.
The soon-to-be free agent, who was dazzling towards the back-end of last season for Sheffield Wednesday, would have been a much-needed boost to Birmingham's survival chances if he was on the roster at the Blues then, with Davies and Co now having to convince the 30-year-old to drop down to League One.
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Josh Windass.
The former Accrington Stanley man will, no doubt, see West Brom as the more attractive offer on the table currently, and with the Baggies having already made contact as per the report, Carlos Corberan's men look to be in the driver's seat over a deal for the enigmatic attacker.
What Windass could offer Birmingham
With a reported £20m up for grabs in the Birmingham transfer kitty, Birmingham could flex their guns in the market and swoop in for Windass by offering him a bumper deal, without having to dent the bank too much when it comes to a fee, owing to Windass joining for £0, with his Wednesday contract ripped up shortly.
As well as offering Birmingham a composed head who can finish under pressure, as seen with the curled-in strike above against Newcastle United, Windass would also offer the Blues another option through the centre of the park, if South Korean gem Paik Seung-Ho is off this summer.
Linked with the likes of Blackburn Rovers recently, the 24-year-old Seoul-born midfielder departing will be a blow, but one that would be softened quickly by Windass' arrival onto the scene.

As much as Seung-Ho endeared himself to Birmingham supporters last season with his versatility across the midfield positions, Windass is, arguably, even more flexible for his team when needed, as can be seen glancing at the table above.
The 30-year-old's numbers last playing in the third tier will also make for extremely encouraging reading from a Blues perspective, with a combined goals and assists league tally of 18 from just 34 regular league games really sticking out.
That doesn't even take into account that a last-gasp header from the daring 5 foot 9 forward sealed promotion for Wednesday at the end of that campaign too, crashing in a very late header to win the League One play-off final for the Owls.
Danny Rohl even described Windass as being a "game-changer" for his men on his day last season, seen in his heroics in that play-off final, with more up his sleeve perhaps, if moved onto St. Andrew's soon.
Birmingham could sign perfect Miyoshi partner in swoop for deadly forward
Birmingham City would surely be overwhelming favourites for promotion if they signed this deadly Koji Miyoshi partner.

Celtic are closing in on the signing of an "outstanding" new goalkeeper with a huge amount of pedigree, according to an update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Celtic transfer news
It has been a quiet summer transfer window at Parkhead to date, but Brendan Rodgers will know the importance of making new signings, not just in terms of staving off the threat of Rangers in the Scottish Premiership, but also in order to do better in the Champions League.
One player who could complete a permanent move to Celtic is Adam Idah, who enjoyed a fruitful spell on loan at the club during the second half of last season, including scoring the dramatic late winning goal in the Scottish Cup final triumph over Rangers. The Hoops are reportedly set to make an improved offer for the striker, as they look to bring him in from Norwich City.
Another loanee, Paulo Bernardo, has also been linked with sealing a permanent switch to Parkhead ahead of next season, and a £6m deal is now believed to be in place, allowing him to come in from Benfica on a long-term deal.
There are also some current players who could leave this summer, one of which is Matt O'Riley, who has been the subject of a bid from reigning Europa League champions Atalanta. Rodgers will no doubt be desperate to keep hold of the Denmark international, but his head could be turned by a move away.
Celtic close to signing "outstanding" goalkeeper
Taking to X on Friday, Romano claimed that Celtic are close to announcing the signing of Kasper Schmeichel, snapping him up on a free transfer after his spell at Anderlecht came to an end.
"Kasper Schmeichel, set to become new Celtic GK – understand contract will be valid until June 2025. Deal will also include an option for further season, until June 2026."
Kasper Schmeichel for Denmark.
With Joe Hart retiring at the end of last season, finding an ideal replacement for the Englishman felt vital for Celtic, and Schmeichel could be the perfect addition.
The links to the former Leicester City star seem to have come from nowhere, with the Hoops linked with just about every other available goalkeeper on the planet up to this point, so they have clearly moved smartly in silence to wrap up a deal.
At 37, the veteran goalkeeper is the same age as Hart, and he possesses plenty of pedigree, not only winning the Premier League title with Leicester back in 2015/16, but also making 105 appearances for Denmark.
Rodgers knows him extremely well, too, following their time together at the Foxes, with the Hoops boss saying of him in the past: "He's been brilliant for me in my time here, there's moments where it looks like it's going to be a goal and he pulls off a save.
:His concentration and his desire to stop the ball going in the net is so good. He always produces for us, he's absolutely outstanding when he had to be here. That's why he's one of the top keepers at this level."

Given his age, Schmeichel may not quite be the force he was a few years ago, but there is no reason why he can't enjoy a similar level of influence to Hart at Celtic, proving to be a figure of huge consistency and experience between the sticks.

They lost their first eight games under new coach Michael Klinger and never recovered, managing just three wins for the tournament. Their attack, which was the key to their title in 2018-19, really struggled to contain opponents and they simply couldn’t score enough runs to overcome that. They have gone on a very specific recruiting drive to bolster the attack for this season.Bubble impactJames Pattinson will be the only local player affected by the Australia Test squad bubble but they should have full availability for the rest of the local players although Marcus Harris will miss the opening two games due to Australia A duty. Their five overseas players will be in and out at various times. Rilee Rossouw is available all season but his compatriot Imran Tahir won’t be available until January 9. Noor Ahmad and Mohammad Nabi will miss the first two games because of delayed starts to quarantine, but will be fine until January 9 when Nabi is heading to the UAE for international duty. Ahmad will remain with the Renegades. Imad Wasim is due to head over after Pakistan’s series in New Zealand.Player to watchWill Sutherland has already had an impact as a bowling allrounder in Sheffield Shield and one-day cricket for Victoria but that has not yet translated to the BBL for the Renegades. He is only 21, so expectations do need to be tempered in what can be the toughest form to master for young players. However, with the way the Renegades have set up their squad, and the performance of their bowlers last season, Sutherland becomes an extremely important piece for the balance of their XI. If he can have an impact with bat and ball, it will give the Renegades a lot more flexibility with their line-up, even with the new sub-rule coming into effect.Key stat (Gaurav Sundararaman)The Renegades won the 2018-19 BBL by virtue of being the best bowling team. However, in 2019 they were the worst bowling team conceding runs at 8.55 per over and and average of 32.59. They also took only 69 wickets compared to the finalists Stars who took 114 wickets. The addition of Noor Ahmed and Imran Tahir could help in solving the problem.
His path into the Test XI has been plagued by health issues – interspersed by bucketfuls of runs

Will Pucovski has bossed his way into the Test XI with plenty of runs in domestic cricket•Getty Images
January 2017: Professional debut Having dominated the Under-19 Championships with a record-breaking tally of 650 runs at 162.50 on the back of run-scoring feats at school and club cricket, Pucovski made his List A debut for a Cricket Australia XI against the touring Pakistan team. He opened the batting for a side that also included Cameron Green and made 10 before falling to Hasan Ali.February 2017: First-class debut Less than a month later he was in the Victoria Sheffield Shield side, making 28 in the first innings against New South Wales before the next day, on his birthday, suffering a concussion when he was hit in the head while in the field.October 2017: More concussion worries Playing in a One-Day Cup match against Queensland he was hit by a short ball from Ben Cutting and forced to retire hurt. He did resume his innings but was soon dismissed and later diagnosed with delayed concussion. A month later, in a Futures League match, he was struck again and retired hurt.February 2018: First milestone Just over a year after his first-class debut, Pucovski made his first significant impact with his maiden first-class century when he struck 188 off 414 balls against Queensland in the Sheffield Shield. “It was pretty special, especially out on the G,” he said. Will Pucovski won the Bradman Young Cricketer Award in February 2019•Getty Images
March 2018: Hit again Two weeks later, Pucovski was subbed out of the Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales after being hit by a short ball from Sean Abbott. He did not play again that season.October 2018: Doubling up That first Sheffield Shield hundred was well and truly eclipsed at the start of the following summer when Pucovski made 243 against Western Australia in Perth. He became the ninth player to score a Shield double-century before his 21st birthday. However, a week later it was announced he was taking a break from the game for mental health reasons. He would later reveal how he had little recollection of the innings. “It was one of those things where what it looked like from the outside wasn’t quite matching up with what it was on the inside… I was more confused than at any other time in my life,” he told Fox Cricket’s podcast in January 2019.”I actually look back on it and don’t have much of a recollection on the innings, which is rare for me.” He returned a couple of months later making 67 in his comeback match.January 2019: Test call-up In the wake of the series loss to India, the Australia selectors made a number of changes to the batting line-up for the series against Sri Lanka and one of those was a maiden call-up for Pucovski. The batting contenders were then played together in a CA XI against the Sri Lankans in Hobart where Kurtis Patterson scored two centuries and, despite not being in the original squad, was handed a Test debut ahead of Pucovski. A few days later he was released from the squad to manage his mental health. “Will’s decision to speak up and continue to ask for assistance in managing his ongoing mental health is extremely positive,” CA doctor Richard Saw said. He returned to the Victoria side a couple of weeks later, scored an unbeaten 131 against Tasmania and helped his state to the Shield title.July 2019: Australia A tour He was part of the Australia A squad that toured England alongside the World Cup and Ashes squads in 2019, although he did not earn elevation to the Test squad. However, the tour did bring a maiden one-day century when he struck 137 against Gloucestershire. This season, Will Pucovski has already been part of a Sheffield Shield record stand of 486 with Marcus Harris•Getty Images
November 2019: Mental health break Pucovski started the 2019 season with a century against South Australia – albeit on a road at the Junction Oval – and added a half-century in the next match. He was then included in the Australia A side to face Pakistan in the pink-ball warm-up match in Perth. During that game he made himself unavailable for Test selection to manage his mental health. “Will’s decision not to nominate for Test selection was the right one in the circumstances and one that everyone in the Australian cricket family supports,” said Ben Oliver, CA’s head of national teams.February 2020: Trip and fall Pucovski had returned to action a couple of weeks later, making 82 in his comeback against New South Wales, but his season was halted in February by another concussion caused when he tripped and hit his head taking a run while playing for a CA XI, which he was captaining, against England Lions on the Gold Coast. He had not returned to playing before the pandemic hit.Related

October 2020: Double doubles Part of the Victoria squad that was required to quarantine for two weeks in Adelaide before the Sheffield Shield, Pucovski began his season in breathtaking style with back-to-back double-centuries against South Australia and Western Australia. His first was part of a Shield record stand of 486 with Marcus Harris. At the age of 23, he had three double-centuries to his name.December 2020: Another blow In November, Pucovski was included in Australia’s Test squad to face India. “It’s been a long journey but I don’t think I could be in a much better place to take this challenge on,” he said. However, in the closing stages of the Australia A match against India at Drummoyne Oval he was struck on the helmet when he got into a tangle against a bouncer from Kartik Tyagi. He was diagnosed with concussion – his ninth – and was ruled out of contention for the first two Tests.
We might be just over three weeks away from the return of the Premier League, but with the transfer window set to remain open for another five weeks, there is plenty of time for teams to complete their business.
This is great news for Tottenham Hotspur as, aside from signing Archie Gray, they have yet to make any serious additions to the first team.
In fact, Daniel Levy and Co seem to have prioritised sales recently, with Pierre-Emile Højbjerg joining Marseille this week, Tanguy Ndombele joining OGC Nice earlier this month and even recent reports that Richarlison could be on his way to the Saudi Pro League this summer.
While the Brazilian striker has been far from great for the Lilywhites, they can't afford to sell him without bringing in a replacement, although, based on recent reports, that could be a problem the club are already addressing.
Tottenham Hotspur transfer news
According to a recent report from Caught Offside, Tottenham are one of several sides in the picture for Besiktas wonderkid Semih Kilicsoy.
The report has claimed that the Lilywhites and West Ham United have already sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old in action, while Aston Villa and Fulham have had offers rejected as neither club were anywhere close to the Turkish side's valuation of around €30m, which is about £25m.
It might seem like a lot of money to spend on a teenager because, well, it is.
However, given his recent performances and supposed potential, Levy and Co would be wise to match his price tag and bring him to N17, as he could already be the ideal replacement for Richarlison.
How Kilicsoy compares to Richarlison
Now, an argument could be made that at 18 years old, Kilicsoy would be too young to make a serious impact at Spurs, but as the old saying goes, if you're good enough, you're old enough.
Moreover, if Richarlison is to leave and an older replacement isn't brought in, then Ange Postecoglou's hand will be somewhat forced into playing the exciting forward, but with that said, how does he compare to the former Everton man?
Well, when it comes to the most critical metric for a striker, output, it is a worryingly close-fought competition – worrying for the Brazilian, that is.
For example, in 31 appearances across all competitions, the 27-year-old scored 12 goals and provided four assists, equating to a goal involvement every 1.93 games.
In comparison, the 18-year-old also scored 12 goals but provided three assists in 35 appearances, meaning he maintained a still impressive, but slightly worse average of a goal involvement every 2.33 games.

However, when you look at their contributions in the league alone, the teenager comes out ahead with 14 goals and assists in 23 games to the 15 in 28 from the Lilywhites' striker.
Ultimately, while the Turkish "monster," as data analyst Ben Mattinson dubbed him, is just behind the Nova Venécia-born international at the moment, it's quite evident that he's on track to become a serious proposition.

Therefore, if he's given the time to do that in N17, Tottenham could have a real match-winner on their hands and the perfect long-term replacement for Richarlison.
