Manchester United are seemingly pressing on in their pursuit of a new left-back with just a few days left in the transfer window, with Erik ten Hag seeking a much-needed solution amid his current injury crisis in that role.
Will Man United sign a left-back?
The Red Devils are currently in desperate need of a new addition on the left side of the defence having only recently lost Luke Shaw to injury for an extended period, with positional rival Tyrell Malacia also currently sidelined and promising asset Alvaro Fernandez in line for a loan departure.
With that in mind, Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall has reported that Lyon's Nicolas Tagliafico has 'emerged as an option' of late for the Old Trafford outfit, with the club ready to 'consider a loan move' for the 30-year-old Argentine.
Read the latest Manchester United transfer news HERE…
While have also been claims made that a permanent switch could be in the offing for the former Ajax man – with a £5m fee having been mooted in recent days – Marshall states that a 'short-term deal' is the preferred option for United in their bid to strengthen what has become a problem position.
The news comes amid the Red Devils' plans to sign Sofyan Amrabat in the dying stages of the transfer window, with the Athletic's David Ornstein revealing they are now 'working' on a deal.
How good is Nicolas Tagliafico?
The signing of his former players has been a recurring theme of Ten Hag's time in Manchester thus far, with the Dutchman having previously snapped up the likes of Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Andre Onana over the past 12 months or so.
Whether that manager-led transfer policy is the best route to success remains to be seen, although there have been notable benefits with regard to the 53-year-old's desire to reunite with familiar faces, with Martinez, in particular, having shone for the club to date.
Despite early concerns over the 5 foot 9 warrior's height – with Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher stating last year that the player "can't work" as a centre-back in the Premier League – the 25-year-old went on to prove an "absolute monster" in the 2022/23 campaign, according to Shaw, having been arguably one of the club's "best signings" in "years", as per club legend Patrice Evra.
Nicolas Tagliafico
The diminutive defender could well be aided even further if he is to be joined by former Ajax teammate and international colleague, Tagliafico, on the left of defence, with the pair having lined up together in the past during their time under Ten Hag in Amsterdam.
Prior to leaving for France last summer, the full-back had contributed 39 goal involvements in 169 games while working with the current United boss for the Eredivisie giants, proving just what an attacking outlet he can be from the flanks – with Shaw, for instance, registering just 32 goals and assists in 262 games for the Red Devils.
Not just a dynamic option in the final third, the £75k-per-week gem – who has also chipped in with seven goal contributions in 41 outings for his current side – can also benefit Martinez due to his defensive strength, as he notably ranks in the top 6% among his European peers for interceptions made per 90, as well as in the top 14% for tackles made per 90.
That is in fact again a better record than the aforementioned Shaw, with the stricken Englishman ranking in just the top 27% and the bottom 44% for those same two metrics, respectively, thus indicating the quality of player that Ten Hag could be set to bring to the club.
Having such an all-round "quality" presence like Tagliafico – as described by pundit Kevin Campbell – at left-back would be an exciting prospect alongside Martinez, with the two World Cup-winning compatriots potentially set to shine this season at the Theatre of Dreams if a deal can be agreed.
Jos Buttler’s stunning century and a composed all-round effort with the ball helped England clinch the ODI series with two matches to play
The Report by Melinda Farrell21-Jan-2018
England celebrate Jos Buttler’s catch to remove Steven Smith•Getty Images
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsJos Buttler’s stunning century and a composed all-round effort with the ball helped England clinch the ODI series with two matches to play. Although Marcus Stoinis kept Australia in the hunt until the final over, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes closed the game out with another smart display of death bowling.England had been struggling on 6 for 189 when Buttler and Woakes came together but they put on an unbroken 113-run stand to take the total beyond 300. Buttler reached his fifth one-day hundred from the last ball of the innings as England made far more than had looked likely. He then took a contentious catch to dismiss Steven Smith at a key point in the chase as England held on to go 3-0 up.Buttler started steadily but dismantled Australia’s pace attack in the final overs, at one point effortlessly heaving back-to-back sixes off Pat Cummins before following up with consecutive boundaries later in the over. Such was the Midas nature of his touch that even when he dug out a Mitchell Starc yorker it yielded four runs.Buttler, on 97, was almost denied a century when umpire Chris Gaffaney raised his finger for an lbw shout from Starc but the replay left no doubt the ball had ricocheted off the bat before hitting the pad. In an eventful final over, Woakes brought up his half-century with a pull for six before Buttler reached his century with a hard run two off the final delivery of the innings.Australia hit by over-rate fine
Australia have been fined for a slow over-rate after being ruled two overs behind at the SCG. It leaves captain Steven Smith one repeat offence away from a suspension. Smith has been fined 40% of his match fee, while his players have received 20% fines. Australia took 27 minutes more than allocated to bowl their 50 overs as England made 302 for 6, but were not judged to be as far behind as may have been feared after the umpires took time allowances into account.
Set 303 for victory, Australia were stifled by an England bowling attack that rallied after Liam Plunkett was struck down with an injury.Plunkett left the field with a hamstring problem that caused him to pull up just before his delivery stride in the 12th over of Australia’s innings. His departure from the field in his second over left England’s attack a bowler short and forced Eoin Morgan to turn to Joe Root’s part-time spin to make up the overs. But Australia’s chase had stuttered early on with the loss of David Warner, out chipping Woakes to extra cover, and Cameron White, who feathered a Wood delivery to Buttler. That left the responsibility of steering the initial chase to Aaron Finch, who top-scored for Australia with 62 off 53 balls but was unable to reach his third century of the series. Finch pre-meditated a sweep shot to an Adil Rashid delivery that deceived with its extra pace and rapped the pads and after his departure the run rate required gradually increased. As was the case with England earlier, the Australian batsmen made starts but found it difficult to convert those to big totals or to score quickly on a slowish pitch. Stoinis attempted to lift the run-rate in the latter stage of the innings with a brisk half-century but he fell heaving Woakes to deep square leg in the final over. The match wasn’t without controversial moments, particularly when Wood claimed the coveted wicket of Smith. Smith edged the ball low and to the right of Buttler, who took a one-handed grab. But the decision was sent to the third umpire, Kumar Dharmasena, to judge whether or not the catch was taken cleanly. After a lengthy period examining the replays, Dharmasena was unable to find conclusive evidence to overturn the soft signal of out and the on-field decision was upheld. Smith, clearly unhappy with the decision, walked back to the pavilion amid a loud chorus of booing from the crowd.During the match, television footage was also widely shared on social media that showed Smith shining the ball after touching his lips but the umpires did not appear to have any issue with the condition of the ball. After the match Smith said he was not wearing any lip balm.England had won the first two matches chasing down Australia’s totals and perhaps that was on Smith’s mind when he elected to bowl after winning the toss.First-choice quicks Cummins and Josh Hazlewood returned in place of Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye and, despite toiling on a slowish pitch and bowling several wide deliveries early on, their impact was evident in the opening stages of the innings.England finished the first ten overs with 47 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets, by far their worst Powerplay figures of the series – they were 2 for 87 and 1 for 60 at the same point in the first and second ODIs, respectively. After losing early wickets, Jonny Bairstow and Root batted for more than ten overs without scoring a boundary as Australia’s fast bowlers applied consistent pressure.Cummins’ first over was a maiden that pinned Jason Roy to the crease and in his next over Cummins got his reward when Roy slashed a full delivery outside off stump to Finch at extra cover. Alex Hales’ time in the middle was brief and ended with a similarly soft dismissal, a mistimed drive off Stoinis lobbed directly to Adam Zampa at mid-on.Australia had gone into the second ODI in Brisbane without a specialist spinner and, while a growing number of commentators and former players have questioned the absence of Nathan Lyon in the 50-over format, Zampa returned to the team in place of Travis Head and claimed the wicket of Bairstow with a well-executed googly.Apart from Hales, England’s top order made starts but Australia’s bowlers were patient and struck regularly just as the batsmen seemed set. Root, who was presented with his 100th ODI cap by England and South Sydney rugby league player Sam Burgess, played on against Hazlewood for 29, while Morgan departed for 41, edging the same bowler behind just as he had started to accelerate the run rate.Morgan was given a life on 19 when he was dropped by Smith, who put down a difficult chance while diving to his left at midwicket. But the dubious honour of the biggest howler of the innings went to White, who watched a skied ball from Moeen Ali off Mitchell Marsh drop between his hands and chest. Moeen had been dropped in a strikingly similar fashion by Hazlewood at the SCG during the fifth Ashes Test but, as in that match and throughout a disappointing tour, he was unable to capitalise and was out dragging a Marsh delivery on to his stumps soon after. But England’s much-lauded depth in batting gave them a late surge, with Buttler and Woakes combining brilliantly as the shadows lengthened for a rollicking partnership that lifted England to a total that had seemed well out of reach.
Tottenham Hotspur have donned some iconic kits over their history, with a number of the game’s recognisable faces wearing the famous cockerel on their chest.
Some Spurs kits truly hit the mark, becoming collectors’ items and must-haves for supporters. However, with the good comes the bad, and it is fair to say the Lilywhites have had some truly shocking kits.
So, we at Football FanCast have decided to rank the worst 10 Spurs kits from the Premier League era. Here are our selections, with some no doubt going to divide opinion amongst diehard fans…
10 1995/96 Away
Tottenham Hotspur 1995/96.
Purple shirts have been done regularly by Tottenham’s kit manufacturers over the years. And it is fair to say, in recent years, the likes of Under Armour and Nike have been able to design them well.
However, the same cannot be said for Pony’s effort in the mid ’90s. A striped shirt with purple and navy colours paired with a buttoned up collar feels like a recipe for a bad kit.
On top of all the design issues with this kit, the 95/96 campaign did not provide the Spurs faithful much to cheer about with an eighth placed finish following the sale of Jurgen Klinsmann.
9 2008/09 Third
David Bentley Tottenham Hotspur 2008/09.
Puma have provided Spurs with some memorable kits over the years. The club’s first ever Champions League campaign came with Puma manufacturing their kits.
And the club provided Tottenham with a truly iconic chocolate brown kit in 2006 which sold out almost instantly. A couple of years later, Puma seemingly tried to follow on from that success with another brown kit.
It is difficult to call that effort a triumph with this third kit showcasing – what can only be said – two odd striped on the right shoulder as well as a strange collar style.
The 2008/09 campaign was not one to remember for Spurs with the club forced to sack Juande Ramos after what was a dreadful start under the Spaniard with the Lilywhites slumped at the bottom of the league.
8 1999/00 Away
Tottenham Hotspur 1999/00
Again, yellow shirts have become synonymous with the north London club over the years with a number of away and third shirts being designed in that colour way.
But the combination of a navy top third and a yellow remainder of the jersey just does not seem to be a good mix on the Adidas template which includes a white collar.
It is also key to point out that this shirt that was worn by Sol Campbell and, therefore, will not provide Spurs fans with many positive memories.
The Lilywhites did not produce much in the 99/00 campaign with a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League not offering a huge amount to celebrate.
7 2012/13 Home
Gareth Bale scores against West Ham for Tottenham Hotspur.
There is certainly room for debate that this kit is worse than what is to follow next, but the memories which will be brought back as a result of this kit will by far outmatch anything the next could offer.
Indeed, Under Armour certainly failed to produce the goods when designing this kit. There is very little right with this kit with the collar leaving a lot left to be desired.
However, Gareth Bale’s stunning goals will forever be remembered by the Spurs faithful and it turned out to be his final season at Spurs wearing this kit.
What Bale done in this shirt may have proven to be one of the main reasons as to why Real Madrid broke the world record transfer fee to bring the Welshman to the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013.
6 2013/14 Home
Tottenham Hotspur Jermain Defoe Europa League.
There are quite a lot similarities with the kit above given they both have an odd open-necked collar, however, the memories in this kit were certainly not as fond.
This season marked the end of what proved to be a strange period of time between Harry Redknapp’s reign and the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino in north London.
Tottenham were able to finish sixth in the Premier League but life without Bale saw a number of players brought in from his transfer fee and fail to provide the fans with much excitement.
5 2005/06 Away
Jermaine Jenas Tottenham Hotspur
Another entry from Kappa and this time they have combined the colours blue and yellow. Once again, it is fair to say it did not work.
A royal blue shirt is not quite synonymous with the Lilywhites – more so their west London rivals. Combined with the tight-fitting Kappa material, it is not a design which many fans will look back on fondly.
Some famous names donned this kit; Edgar Davids, Michael Carrick and Robbie Keane to name a few, but just no Kappa.
4 1997/98 Goalkeeper
Ian Walker plays for Tottenham Hotspur in 1998.
Perhaps we are being slightly cheeky by including a goalkeeper kit on this list, however, just look at it.
We make the rules on this list and this kit is just too bad not to include. Unfortunately for Ian Walker, Pony kept this kit for two seasons but there were some positive memories to come from the seasons wearing this monstrosity.
This kit is truly a shocker. Although, it has to be said obscure ’90s keeper kits have been seen by some as fashion statements of late, but we are not sure this is one which will catch on with those individuals.
In reality, this kit is probably worth topping the charts as the worst kit, but we have probably bent the rules slightly to sneak this in given it is a goalkeeper kit.
3 2021/22 Third
Tottenham Hotspur beat Leeds United 4-0.
Nike, what were you thinking? As we’ve already mentioned, there have been some excellent purple Spurs shirts over the years. It was Nike who provided one of them, in particular, with the 2017/18 third kit which will be remembered for their away draw at Juventus in the Champions League.
But did they really think this would prove to be a classic when they designed this? In fact, the kit is said to be based on the N17 area. The press release from the club stated the design had been inspired by a group of young creatives:
“In 2019, a group of eight young creatives were mentored at local art studio Tottex alongside Nike’s Design team. Through a series of workshops, they were able to express what Tottenham as an area means to them.
“The group’s creative vision has now been brought to life with the Third Kit design encompassing bold prints and patterns inspired by the streets of Tottenham. The striking purple design celebrates the vibrancy of the Club’s N17 neighbourhood, with an N17 logo on the inside collar.”
The sentiment may be there, but the result was a shocker. Tottenham did have some good games in this kit with an enjoyable 4-0 victory over Leeds United on the road perhaps the most memorable.
But this is certainly a kit which Spurs fans will not want to remember. Especially a select few fans, who said this:
“As previously stated, horrid.” Another said: “Worst kit of all time.” A third also wrote: “Toilet. Looks like a really bad Sunday League Kit.” Meanwhile, one more simply stated: “Looks like a training kit.” (Daily Star).
2 2022/23 Away
Tottenham player Pedro Porro.
Having gone all the way back to the ’90s for our number three pick, you only have to go to the last two campaigns to find our second and worst kits in Tottenham’s Premier League history.
And here it is, the 2022/23 away kit has been selected by Football FanCast as the club’s worst kit.
Simply put, what on earth is this from Nike? Often the likes of Nike are scrutinised for using the same templates and safe designs across their sponsored clubs; perhaps they should have played it a little safer with this example.
On the release of this kit, the social media memes didn’t take long to liken this kit a scuba dive wetsuit. And it could be seen that Spurs did sink whilst wearing this as the 2022/23 campaign proved to be their worst in well over a decade as they had to settle for an eighth-placed finish.
Some may argue our entry at number two may be a worse design than this, however, at least there was some sentiment behind the 2021/22 third kit with the links back to the community.
1 2002/03 Third
It is another yellow and navy shirt that is hitting our list and this number came just a matter of years on from Adidas’ effort at number eight.
This time around, Kappa provided their spin on a yellow third kit and it is fair to say it is not one which can be looked back on fondly.
As was the case with Kappa kits of the time, the fitting was extremely tight with a stretchy fabric used.
Many may remember this style of kit through the likes of Francesco Totti donning the burgundy Roma Kappa kit. But it did not quite have the same effect at Tottenham with the likes of Serhiy Rebrov in the squad.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav took eight wickets between them to rout the hosts for their lowest total at home
The Report by Firdose Moonda04-Feb-20181:25
Cullinan: Getting out in 32 overs is a crime
Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav shared eight wickets between them at SuperSport Park, taking their total for the series to 13, as South Africa’s biggest weakness was brutally exposed once again. Against wristspin, their line-up is close to clueless, especially without two of their leading batsmen. In the absence of the injured Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers, the hosts folded for their lowest ODI total at home, and their eighth-lowest overall.Twenty-three-year-old Aiden Markram’s international leadership debut on his home ground should have been the stuff of dreams, but it quickly turned into a nightmare. South Africa lost their first four wickets for 12 runs in the space of 26 balls and, after a very short period of rebuilding, their next six for 19 runs in 36 balls and were bowled out inside 33 overs. And just like that India cantered to a 2-0 series lead, although not before the players had wandered off for the scheduled interval break with just two runs required for victory.Virat Kohli chose to put South Africa in because he expected some early movement with two new balls; the hosts were happy to bowl second, anticipating turn in the afternoon. But they did not have to wait that long to see what spinners could do on a surface that will doubtless come under the spotlight again, for failing to play the home team’s advantage.South Africa had a quiet start as Hashim Amla tried to anchor one end while Quinton de Kock was in the wars at the other. The first ball de Kock faced, bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, dribbled onto his stumps off a block but the bails were not dislodged. The second was a bouncer, in the vicinity of his throat, and the third struck him on the left hand.De Kock got off the mark with a hook shot but continued to play tentatively and it was up to Amla to up the ante. That wasn’t easy against the Indian openers and Amla flirted with danger when he edged one over the top of second slip but seemed to settle with a gorgeous cover drive.South Africa would have seen out the Powerplay wicket-less and scoring at around four runs to the over but Amla – anticipating a fuller delivery from Bhuvneshwar Kumar and shaping up to flay through the offside – was dismissed off a back-of-a-length ball that nipped back into him and took the edge as it passed through the bat-pad gap. Amla uncharacteristically reviewed, but replays showed he had to go.De Kock lasted three more overs and never looked comfortable at the crease or with his equipment. He called for bat tape for an issue with the bottom of his bat and it was exactly that spot that got him into trouble when he tried to pull Chahal over midwicket but only found the fielder.Sensing an opportunity to burrow into South Africa, Kohli brought on Kuldeep in the next over. His first ball was a half-tracker that Markram smacked in the air to deep midwicket where Bhuvneshwar was waiting. His fifth was tossed up, inviting the drive from David Miller, who came forward as the ball dipped in and edged to slip.South Africa went from 39 without loss to 51 for 4. JP Duminy, the senior-most batsman in the line-up, had yet to face a ball and was out there with Khaya Zondo who was on debut. Duminy watched from the other end for 16 deliveries before his turn came. He and Zondo, who played calmly despite the situation, shared in a fifth-wicket stand of 48 and were allowed some reprieve when Kohli brought Hardik Pandya on in place of Chahal. They got to 95 for 4 at the halfway stage but then Chahal was brought back, Zondo’s eyes lit up to a slow, wide ball outside off, and he slog-swept to midwicket to leave Duminy with only Chris Morris and the tail.In Chahal’s next over, Duminy was out lbw on the sweep. He wanted to review but Amla had used the only chance, and, even if Duminy did, it would have been in vain. The ball drifted from leg to pitch on middle and would have gone on to hit the stumps. From there, it was a procession. Kuldeep trapped Kagiso Rabada lbw after Rabada failed to pick the wrong ‘un, and he had Morne Morkel dropped at mid-on the next ball. Morkel only lasted five more balls before he too fell to spin; he played against the turn to Chahal and was out lbw.Imran Tahir was bowled by Bumrah and Morris holed out to deep cover to give Chahal his maiden ODI five-for, the best figures by an Indian bowler against South Africa in South Africa, and the second-best by an Indian against South Africa ever. To add insult to injury, India knocked off all but 21 runs of the target by the time of the scheduled lunch break, and play was extended by 15 minutes to allow the result to be achieved. But because it wasn’t, the players left the field for lunch with India needing two runs to win from 31 overs. That farce aside, India did not face too many issues in the field. When play resumed, they quickly got the winning runs with a bit of a mis-hit behind square. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli took India there, with a second-wicket stand of 93 runs, with Dhawan providing the match’s only half-century. South Africa only had one moment of success, when Kagiso Rabada had Rohit Sharma caught at fine leg off a bouncer in the fourth over. Rabada was the only bowler to show some intent and hit Kohli in the stomach, but South Africa needed much more. They did not even have enough runs to assess whether their decision to field two specialist spinners would have paid off, but the 18 runs Tabraiz Shamsi conceded in three overs suggests India were more than ready for the challenge.
Leeds United's start to the Championship season, when taken in isolation, marks a torrid start towards earning their goal of an instant Premier League return.
They have won just once in five attempts, and the summer window just gone saw them lose plenty of their star men, including Tyler Adams, Luis Sinisterra and Rodrigo.
However, when delving deeper, it is worth noting that not only have the Whites actually played well in those fixtures, but they also recruited shrewdly in the market to plug those holes created. Amidst all the turmoil, Daniel Farke has actually come out the other side relatively unscathed and is now surely ready to truly kickstart their league campaign.
He has a wealth of talent at his fingertips, both young and old, and should the German find the perfect blend whilst mixing around his starting side, it could prove devastating for the rest of the division.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke.
It is likely that the former will uphold his side though, with the likes of Archie Gray, Wilfried Gnonto, Crysenco Summerville and Jamie Shackleton all growing into mainstays despite their inexperience.
A truly bright future is on the horizon once again at Elland Road, with this newfound hope sure to spur on a year of excitement rather than the gloomy period they endured in the English top flight.
Who are Leeds United's best young players?
With such a starring cast of thrilling youngsters, it marks a very difficult task to choose just one as the outstanding player.
Wilfried Gnonto was the recipient of plenty of interest over the summer, with a £25m bid having even been turned away such was his value to the club. Meanwhile, Gray has been ever-present in the midfield, with the 17-year-old general providing the foundation for Summerville to have enjoyed a frightening start to the new term.
Even Shackleton, who was perhaps a forgotten man after his quiet loan spell last season, has announced himself as a creative utility man capable of deputising in a number of roles.
However, perhaps one of their brightest talents is one which has already performed in the Premier League, and should he be given a chance, would surely be able to lead them back to that level. Joe Gelhardt is the young finisher Farke is craving.
Having joined under Marcelo Bielsa's leadership, the 21-year-old marksman has remained throughout numerous different managers now, having featured for most as a clinical youngster with an exciting future.
The forward was instrumental during the 2021/22 campaign where they narrowly avoided the drop, as his two goals and four assists in the league game at crucial moments to earn them survival.
Then, having been sent out on loan the year following as his chances dwindled, he scored three and assisted three across just 16 Championship starts with Sunderland.
Such persistent proficiency was always bound to draw praise, with journalist Phil Hay even branding him a "goal machine".
This kind of acknowledgement from such a well-respected writer should go a long way towards painting the picture of Gelhardt's talent, which has been well-documented given his meteoric rise to the top of the game.
How much was Joe Gelhardt worth at Wigan Athletic?
However, the Liverpool-born finisher was not a true product of the Whites' infamous academy, with Thorp Arch not quite able to take the plaudits for his production.
It was instead Wigan Athletic who handed the youngster the platform to shine, as his five goals in as many U18s games earned him 21 first-team appearances before his eventual sale.
joe-gelhardt-championship-leeds-united
To emphasise just how far Gelhardt has come, it is worth outlining that Football Transfers valued Leeds' number 30 at just €70k (£60k) in 2019, the year before he moved. Unsurprisingly, his exposure and instant adaptation to top-level football with the Yorkshire outfit has seen that figure skyrocket.
How much did Leeds United sign Joe Gelhardt for?
As the Latics were plagued by crippling financial issues, the likes of which saw them earn points deductions that would send them spiralling out of the Championship, Leeds were one of the beneficiaries who swooped in to acquire their talent for a cut price.

It was impossible for a club in administration to turn down the £1m that Bielsa had offered, and so the young striker moved in the hope that the fee he attained would aid his former employers in their survival bid.
Although the DW Stadium outfit have bounced between the second tier and League One for the past few years, at the very least Shaun Maloney seems set to offer some stability to an institution that has been sorely lacking it in recent memory.
What is Joe Gelhardt's market value now?
To gauge the growth of Gelhardt, it is worth viewing the change in his value, which can be affected by a number of different factors.
His age, the level which he has and currently plays at, nationality and skill level all come into play, but given how lowly Football Transfers once valued him, it is certain that a profit can be guaranteed.

That is certainly the case when viewing Football Transfer's expected Transfer Value (xTV) for the starlet, which seeks to estimate an accurate fee that might be paid in the current market for a player's services.
The €14.7m (£12.6m) figure they have handed him is a fair representation of his current level and the potential he holds to star in the near future.
In total, across a senior career that has largely spanned across the two valuations mentioned, the 5 foot 9 poacher has seen an 1160% increase in value. Bielsa certainly worked wonders with this deal.
Why is Joe Gelhardt worth that much?
To outline why Gelhardt has seen his valuation soar in such a manner is just to hear the glowing commendation sent his way by former employers and current ones.
Paul Cook, who managed over him at Wigan, was one of the first to issue such glowing praise: "He's got that unique talent to find space in a telephone box. He's such a natural, good footballer. To get a goal like that in front of his own fans was a special moment.
"A lot of young footballers coming into the game are not very nice people. We're just lucky to have a boy with his humility playing for us – the game is easy for him. He'll be starting soon if he carries on like that. He's a young boy that needs minding though. It's a very special goal from a very special player."
Given his growth since then, which is well laid out by these aforementioned shifts in valuation, it remains to be seen just how high Gelhardt could go under Leeds' new leadership.
