Man United Make New Contact To Sign "World-Class" 28 y/o

Manchester United have reportedly made new direct contact over a summer move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

What’s the latest Man United transfer news?

The Red Devils appear to be making transfer plans despite the ongoing takeover saga at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag seemingly wants to bolster his squad with midfield and attacking additions, with Rabiot a long-term target.

A move last summer was on the cards with a deal even agreed between the two clubs. However, as we know, a transfer failed to materialise, but it looks as if United, and specifically Ten Hag, are still keen on sealing a deal, with Rabiot set to become a free agent over the coming months when his contract expires.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato provided an update regarding Rabiot in the last 48 hours, saying that sides from the Premier League are making concrete moves for the Frenchman. One of those is from Old Trafford, with officials making new direct contact. Newcastle are also name-checked with an interest alongside German giants Bayern Munich.

Juventus'AdrienRabiotin action with Napoli's Victor Osimhen

Who is Adrien Rabiot?

Rabiot is 28 years of age and is primarily a central midfielder who can also play in a holding role or out on the left. The France international, sponsored by Adidas, has won 24 major honours during his career and has made exactly 450 senior appearances for club and country, contributing to more than 70 goals.

He has been on the books with Juventus since 2019 and has been a regular this season, turning out on 45 occasions in all competitions.

David Trezeguet appears to be a fan of the midfielder, labelling Rabiot as “world-class” back in December during the World Cup and describing his contract situation as a problem for Juventus.

"[With Rabiot] we are talking about a problem for Juventus because in Italy, he may have been targeted for criticism, but in France, it's completely different.

"He is world-class, an extraordinary player. Now, he will evaluate his options and will go back to being the important player he always was.”

Therefore, Juventus’ possible pending loss could be United’s gain, and with Rabiot’s experience and versatility, a free transfer for the €30m-rated midfielder could be an extremely shrewd move, similar to the one the club made for Christian Eriksen last season.

It looks as if the club are pushing to make a move possible, and who knows, should United finish in the top four, it could increase their chances of securing the player's services.

BCCI, states treading cautiously after SC verdict

An embattled BCCI is set to convene a meeting of its legal committee next week to discuss the Supreme Court’s verdict that made it binding upon the board to implement the majority of the Lodha Committee’s recommendations within six months

An embattled BCCI is set to convene a meeting of its legal committee next week to discuss the Supreme Court’s verdict that made it binding upon the board to implement the majority of the Lodha Committee’s recommendations within six months. Officials of the board and state associations, which are required to carry out the recommendations concurrently with the BCCI, said the judgment was on expected lines.”Nothing unexpected, nothing unusual. This was on the cards only,” a BCCI official well versed in legal matters told ESPNcricinfo. He conceded the board had no wriggle room, and effectively ruled out the option of reviewing the verdict. “There is nothing to debate on it. You simply have to just adopt it. That’s what Supreme Court has asked us to do.”There is no scope for analysis. What are we going to gain [by reviewing the order]? The Lodha Committee has done everything, so we just have to put in place what it has laid down.”The official, however, said it would be difficult for state associations to implement the recommendations within the time frame. “The BCCI will do it, but state associations might take a little longer to adopt the same changes,” he said.  “They will all have to amend their constitutions in line with the BCCI’s.”Meanwhile, state associations are treading cautiously, and waiting for guidance from the BCCI on their next course of action. Officials of five state associations that ESPNcricinfo spoke to confirmed they would firm up their plans after they heard from the BCCI. “We are waiting for the official correspondence from the BCCI,” Unmesh Khanvilkar, Mumbai Cricket Association joint-secretary said. “Once we get that, we will have a discussion about the verdict. We have a meeting of our managing committee on July 24, and if we get a correspondence from the BCCI by then we will discuss it there.”The BCCI official said officials entrenched in state associations would be unwilling to giving up their position of influence easily. “You can’t be an office bearer, but there is nothing that stops you from being a committee member,” he said. “They will install their trusted allies in their place. The incumbent office bearer can sit in the committee and oversee everything.”G Gangaraju, BCCI vice-president and Andhra Cricket Association secretary, who will have to step down by virtue of being over the stipulated age-limit of 70, had suggested former officials could still have a role to play in the functioning of state associations. “We can guide the people. We may not be office bearers but we can always look into [how] things are going on,” he said.It is also understood former BCCI president N Srinivasan, who has remained Tamil Nadu Cricket Association president since 2002-03, intends to continue functioning in the state body in a different role. “We discussed the situation yesterday. He has to step down as president, but there can be some other position in which we can use his assistance,” a TNCA insider said. “So long as it is not an elected office, he can function in any manner.  That is not an issue, which is why he is not particularly perturbed with the judgement.”

Gayle, bowlers thwart Patriots for narrow win

Three key wickets from fast bowler Kesrick Williams and tight bowling in the middle overs helped Jamaica Tallawahs stave off St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for a five-run win in their CPL 2016 match in Basseterre

Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsThree key wickets from fast bowler Kesrick Williams and tight bowling in the middle overs helped Jamaica Tallawahs stave off St Kitts and Nevis Patriots for a five-run win in their CPL 2016 match in Basseterre. Tallawahs were also aided by a brisk fifty from captain Chris Gayle, who struck 51 off 36 balls, to help set Patriots a target of 154.Patriots overcame the early loss of Evin Lewis in their chase with two substantial partnerships for the second and third wickets. Faf du Plessis, who struck 27 off 29 balls, was the common factor, sharing 39 for the second wicket with Lendl Simmons and then playing a foil to Jonathan Carter in a rapid partnership of 43 that came off 28 balls. Carter’s 18-ball 27 included two sixes, and the pair helped Patriots narrow the equation down to 62 off 48 balls.Their slump began at this stage. Carter and du Plessis fell in successive overs and Tallawahs choked the runs by conceding 26 between the 15th and 19th overs. Williams dismissed Thisara Perera and Brad Hodge in the 18th over and Dale Steyn got rid of Carlos Brathwaite for 1 at the start of the 19th over to leave Patriots needing 30 off the last six balls. Despite three consecutive sixes from wicketkeeper Devon Thomas, Patriots could only muster 24 runs. Williams, who played his first T20 since January 2013, ended with 3 for 23, while the rest of the Tallawahs attack, except Timroy Allen, took a wicket each. The Tallawahs’ innings was given direction by Gayle before Andre Russell provided a late flourish. Gayle paired with Kumar Sangakkara to add 48 runs for the second wicket, after Chadwick Walton fell in the first over for 3. By the time Gayle was dismissed, he had struck four fours and three sixes in his 51, but quick wickets in the middle overs had left Tallawahs at a shaky 109 for 5 in the 16th over. Russell provided the impetus with an unbeaten 34 off 20 deliveries. He slammed two sixes and a four in an 18-run over bowled by Krishmar Santokie and helped Tallawahs add 44 in the last four overs to climb to 153.

West Ham Eye 21 y/o Titan to Begin Post-Rice Revolution

West Ham are keenly tracking the availability of Manchester City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

What’s the latest on Taylor Harwood-Bellis to West Ham?

According to Football Insider, the Hammers are “interested” in signing the centre-back, who has enjoyed a hugely impressive loan spell at Burnley this season.

This report reveals that the 2023 Championship winners are also in contention to permanently sign the 21-year-old as Vincent Kompany has developed a good understanding with the youngster.

However, this outlet previously stated that Fulham and Newcastle United, who look set to be able to offer Champions League football after their 4-1 demolition of Brighton, are also in the race for this coveted talent.

The defender is contracted to Pep Guardiola’s side until 2024, but if a new deal cannot be finalised then City may be forced to sell one of their academy starlets.

Why does West Ham want Taylor Harwood-Bellis?

The Clarets loanee has been a revelation since his move to Turf Moor and has emerged as one of the division’s most frightening and awe-inspiring prospects.

Harwood-Bellis has made 32 second-tier appearances and was an integral cog of the meanest defence in the league, which only conceded 35 goals across the campaign.

Within the Burnley squad, the Stockport-born registered the most interceptions per game (1.8) and the second-highest clearances (3.5), as per WhoScored. These magnificent statistics reflect Harwood-Bellis’ tremendous composure and ability to read the game.

Taylor-Harwood-Bellis-Burnley

During a transformative season, in which Kompany has completely transitioned the Clarets to a possession-based, free-flowing attacking unit, Harwood-Bellis has thrived in this new setup.

The Belgian manager has lavished the defensive titan in praise and hailed his “leadership, incredible drive, and high standards.”

The Hammers are likely to receive an astronomically large fee in the region of £100m for club captain Declan Rice and reinvestment in the U21 international would represent an astute piece of business.

If the Englishman wants to achieve his outrageous potential, then a move away from the Etihad Stadium may be the most logical route.

The reigning Premier League champions already have Ruben Dias, John Stones, Aymeric Laporte, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake at their disposal, so it seems unlikely that he will feature anywhere near Guardiola's first-team options.

Furthermore, Fabrizio Romano has outlined how the club is also prepared to lodge a move for Josko Gvardiol, which would further minimise Harwood-Bellis’ already slim chances.

The pathway to becoming a City regular and emulating the pathway of Phil Foden looks like a murky and problematic process, so the best option would be to consider a move to another top-flight outfit.

Rangers Eyeing Two Transfer Targets In Key Area

Rangers are showing an interest in signing attacking pair Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers in the summer transfer window, according to a new update.

Have Rangers had a successful season?

Michael Beale's side had big hopes at the beginning of the season, as they looked to wrestle some silverware away from rivals Celtic, but it has proven to be a frustrating campaign. While there have been some positive moments thrown in, trophies have completely deserted them, as was the case in last season's Europa League final.

Rangers finished second behind the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership title race, and were beaten in both domestic cup competitions – the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup and the final of the Scottish League Cup – as their adversaries' extra quality ultimately shone through.

It has highlighted the need for the Gers to have a hugely productive time of things in the transfer market this summer, with additions required all over the pitch. Added attacking quality is certainly a must, and a fresh transfer claim suggests that the club are already focusing on strengthening there.

Feyenoord coach Arne Slot speaks to Fredrik Aursnes and Cyriel Dessers during a break in play-1

Could Gers make key attacking signings?

According to Monday's edition of The Scottish Daily Mail [via Ibrox News], Rangers are eyeing up Lammers and Dessers as potential signings, as they look to fill the likely void left by Ryan Kent and Alfedo Morelos, who are expected to leave for free this summer:

“Sportsmail understands Atalanta-owned Lammers and Cremonese forward Dessers are tow further names on a list of possibilities given consideration."

It is encouraging to see Rangers seemingly working on transfer business so quickly, and both Lammers and Dessers could represent strong option for them ahead of next season.

The former is out of contract at Sampdoria next month, meaning he would arrive for free, and while he has admittedly only scored once in 19 Serie A appearances for them this season, he could be good target man, winning an average of 1.6 aerial duels per game.

Meanwhile, Dessers looks like the more prolific option of the two, having netted seven times and registered two assists for Cremonese in 2022/23, although his contract doesn't expire until 2027, meaning he would be a more expensive option.

Whether Rangers would be attempting to sign both Lammers and Dessers remains to be seen, but either way, it is essential that genuine firepower is acquired, considering how influential Kent and Morelos have been down the years.

'Important for Joseph to back his skills' – Holder

Jason Holder has kept his cards close to his chest when asked about West Indies’ line-up for the second Test against India, saying he would decide after taking a look at the pitch on Saturday morning

ESPNcricinfo staff29-Jul-2016Jason Holder, the West Indies captain, has kept his cards close to his chest when asked about the team’s composition for the second Test against India, which starts at Sabina Park on Saturday. He said the pitch looked full of moisture on the eve of the Test, but would wait till the morning of the match before taking a final decision.”We will take the final decision tomorrow morning, see how the pitch looks,” he said. “Yesterday it looked a bit green and this morning there was a lot of moisture.”Despite the look of the pitch, Holder felt it was difficult to predict how it would behave.”The last game we played here against Australia there was not this amount of grass on the pitch,” he said. “Previously there was grass, but the pitch still ends up being on the slower side. To be fair, as I said, probably it’s difficult really to predict how the pitch will play here in Jamaica. Going into this game tomorrow morning, I just need to take a final decision.”West Indies went into the first Test in Antigua with only one genuine quick bowler, in Shannon Gabriel, with allrounders Holder and Carlos Brathwaite playing a holding role with their seam-up. Holder did not reveal if either Alzarri Joseph or Miguel Cummins would come into the team for the second Test, but had words of encouragement for Joseph, the uncapped 19-year-old fast bowler, when asked if he was ready for Test cricket.”To be fair, I have never played against Alzarri, never seen him play cricket live,” Holder said. “But I have seen him play cricket on TV. And there is obviously a lot of talk going behind him. He has talent, he has the ability, he has pace. I support him fully. He has done what is done to get here.”We just need to get behind him if he is making his debut tomorrow. If he plays in the near future, we just need to give him support. Support is all we can give. At this time, it’s important for him to back his skills and know what got him here. He got here by hard work, he got here by performances. He will just continue doing what he has been doing before and if given the opportunity, I wish him all the best.”In a West Indies line-up that struggled in both innings of the first Test in Antigua, Jermaine Blackwood perhaps struggled the most, falling for ducks in both innings. Since scoring 92 against Sri Lanka in Galle last year, Blackwood has made 78 runs in nine Test innings at an average of 8.67. Holder did not specify if Blackwood would retain his place at Sabina Park, his home ground, but said the middle-order batsman had his full support.”I haven’t picked the team as yet,” Holder said. “Jermaine has done well for us in the last few seasons. But I support him, I back him 100%. If he is given a chance to continue, I hope he will go and put out a good performance. He has got a Test century and has done well against some of the best bowling attacks. Everybody goes through a rough patch. It’s just about him turning it around.”

Talk Of Man United Transfer Issue Slammed By Pundit

Presenter Terry Flewers has claimed that idea that Manchester United might not be able to sign Kim Min-jae this summer is just "scaremongering".

What are the latest MUFC transfer rumours?

It's been well reported that the Red Devils are hoping to sign the Napoli defender and may even be able to land him for just £42m (via reports from Italy) thanks to a clause in his contract.

However, a recent report in The Mirror claims that Erik ten Hag's transfer plans are "paralysed" as the takeover saga continues to rumble on without being resolved.

This could then halt Man United from making a move for Kim in time to trigger that clause which is only available for a short period during July.

What's more, reports in Portugal (via The Express) claim that Newcastle United are now in the race for the South Korean star.

However, while talking about it all on The Football Terrace, Flewers has insisted that Ten Hag and co will "will buy big this summer" regardless of the takeover.

He explained (4:49): "Man United will have anywhere between £200m to £250m to spend this summer – that's there, that exists.

"Man United fans, I think, have got to pull away from this scaremongering tactic from the media.

"And the reason I say scaremongering, one article this morning in The Mirror states that Kim Min-jae is done and the club now negotiating for Victor Osimhen. In the same very breath, they're stating that the transfer plans are paralysed.

"The chief European football writer and the chief football writer are clearly getting two different sides of the story.

"But of course one is trending and the other one isn't because negativity around Man United sells.

"For me, look whether the sale goes through or not, they will either be an investment into the club or a full sale. One of those two things is going to happen. Either way, the club is going to have money.

"There's the Champions League money that's coming in, and players are going to be sold. Man United will buy big this summer, will buy quality this summer and investment will be made.

"There's no such thing as paralysed transfer talks at Manchester United right now in my personal opinion."

How much can Man Utd spend this summer?

As Flewers points out there have been reports in Italy (via The Mirror) that a deal for Kim is already done and the club are now trying to focus on Osimhen.

With that in mind, it's easy to see why he's sceptical of just who to trust when there are so many conflicting reports in the media – such is the nature of the transfer market.

After all, they've been linked with some top players – such as the aforementioned Napoli duo – but reports also claim they have just about £100m to spend, due to financial fair play rules.

victor-osimhen-napoli-chelsea-transfer-gossip-pochettino-haaland-guardiola

All in all, it's hard to know what to believe but with Champions League football secured, and some top targets wanted, it's hard not to see United spending big this season regardless of what happens with their ownership. Though some players may have to go first to help ease those financial fair play rules.
