Kane scored his 23rd goal of the Bundesliga season as Bayern beat Augsburg 3-1 to go nine points clear of Bayer Leverkusen ahead of their rivals' game at Heidenheim tomorrow.
Kane headed in Michael Olise's wicked cross on the hour mark to give his side the lead on what looked set to be a frustrating evening for the leaders.
The hosts had gone in front after 30 minutes when a quick free-kick caught Bayern off guard, Dimitri Giannoulis taking advantage to chest the ball inside and thrash it into the roof of the net.
Jamal Musiala converted after Leroy Sane's fine run and cross just before the break, but the game changed in the 59th minute when Cedric Zesiger received a second yellow for a challenge on Kane.
The England captain scored from the resulting attack and his side were largely comfortable from there, Sane adding gloss to the scoreline when he drilled in an injury-time third.

Kane's strike was also a notable one for the assister, Olise. The former Crystal Palace winger has now set up 10 goals in the Bundesliga this season, more than any other player, while he also hit the crossbar in what was another impressive display.
THE MVP
The honours go to Kane, though, who once again was the decisive figure for Bayern. The striker drew the foul from Zesiger that opened up the game for the visitors before heading into the net just a couple of minutes later, a moment from which they never looked back. Kane was even central to Bayern's efforts in seeing out the game from there, keeping the ball from Augsburg with a series of clever touches and passes.

Musiala had earlier bagged the leveller but his night came to an early end in worrying circumstances. The German international stretched to close down a clearance before going down off the ball, holding his hamstring and eventually hobbling off with the support of two physios. With a Champions league quarter-final against Inter Milan and crucial Bundesliga run-in to come, any injury to Bayern's key attacking midfielder would be a major blow.
The allrounder has called on the bowling attack to “think a little bit out of the box” as SA aim to rebound from 1-0 down
Firdose Moonda14-Jul-2022Shabnim Ismail is available for selection for South Africa’s second ODI against England after missing last month’s Test and Monday’s first ODI with a calf strain. Ismail’s recovery comes at a crucial juncture on the tour: South Africa lost the first ODI by five wickets and must win in Bristol to stay alive in the series.Allrounder Nadine de Klerk has suggested South Africa have lacked intensity so far, and that is a quality Ismail is known to possess in seemingly endless supply. If picked, Ismail will bolster a bowling attack that conceded 219 runs in 32.1 overs as England strolled to a modest target with 107 balls to spare in the series-opener. While the match was lost by the batters, who languished at 109 for 5 after 30 overs in their innings, and had only one partnership of over 35, the bowlers were unable to keep Emma Lamb quiet and offered too many deliveries wide of off stump.”It definitely wasn’t our best performance,” de Klerk said. “We had a look at the game and we know that we were far off.”She identified a general lethargy in all departments as the reason for South Africa failing to challenge England and promised a more proactive style of play in the remaining matches. “We need to play positive cricket. We are much better than what we showed two days ago. We lacked a bit of intensity but we have been training really well,” she said. “We’re tying a few options against certain bowlers and we will go out and show a lot more aggression [in our] batting and take the bowlers on a little bit more.”Nadine de Klerk scored a career-best 38 and took 2 for 44 in the first ODI•Getty ImagesSouth Africa’s batters dragged themselves through most of their innings of Monday, with none of the top five striking at a rate above 66.66 and were in danger of falling short of 200 until Chloe Tryon’s 73-ball 88 and her 97-run partnership with de Klerk, who scored a career-best 38 “It really helped batting with Chloe who was going well at that stage,” de Klerk said. “She just kept telling me to be really positive and look to score runs.”de Klerk went on to record South Africa’s best figures on the day – 2 for 44 – and was the most economical bowler in the match but recognised that the attack as a whole needs to be more focused and more innovative in their approach. “With the ball, it wasn’t our best day. We have to try and be as consistent as we can and just land the ball in the same spot,” she said. “And we also need to use our variations and think a little bit out of the box.”Ultimately, de Klerk may be reflecting on the next challenge facing South Africa as they prepare for next year’s T20 World Cup and beyond – how to catch up with teams like England and Australia. At this year’s ODI tournament, it was evident that there is a sizable gulf between Australia and the rest. But South Africa were also shown up by England in the semi-finals, despite beating them in the group stage, which may indicate what pressure does to a team like South Africa, whose domestic structure is not as strong as England’s or Australia’s.For de Klerk, regular game time and exposure to franchise leagues is what has helped her own game, and she hopes it could do similar for the other players. “Your confidence grows, you get a little bit older and you get a little bit more experience when you play against high-quality teams where you have to adapt to conditions a bit quicker and you have some powerful hitters and when playing in leagues like the Big Bash.”Ismail is a seasoned campaigner in both leagues and the international set-up and if de Klerk is right and it’s fresh thinking South Africa are looking for, they’ll be more than happy to have her back on Friday.
You’d like to think that Ruben Amorim made some kind of stirring speech in the overtures of Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Liverpool.
The Portuguese manager struggled to gel with the stricken Old Trafford squad when replacing Erik ten Hag, whose worn-out system was well past its sell-by date when he was finally put out of his misery in October.

Newcastle United thrashed the Red Devils in their backyard to put the final nail in the coffin in 2024, a fitting and admittedly poignant end to the year. If Amorim believes in such symbolism, he’ll be inspired by his side’s start to January—and then some.
Anfield was silenced through United’s spirit, energy and optimism. The visitors were well worth their point on the fourth and perhaps unlucky not to have struck an incredible victory. Then, latterly, Arsenal failed to topple ten-man Man United in the third round of the FA Cup, with Altay Bayindir starring between the sticks and saving Kai Havertz’s spot kick in the shootout.

Oh, there’s a long road ahead, with some important and winnable (quote-unquote) fixtures coming up. Manchester United have restored something that has been lost for quite some time. It’s intangible, something that takes root when individual parts come together to create something more than its 11-man makeup.
Change will be required in some areas, though, with Joshua Zirkzee perhaps already expendable.
Joshua Zirkzee's Man United future
INEOS backed Ten Hag in the summer market, forking out £36.5m for Zirkzee, who had been crowned the 2023/24 Serie A Player of the Year with Bologna.
Manchester United star Joshua Zirkzee
Bologna qualified for the Champions League and were generally considered a wonderful surprise package, but Zirkzee has found that the pace and intensity in England stands as a stark difference to that of Serie A football.
As such, rumours have already piled up that the 23-year-old is headed for a premature exit, with Caught Offside even claiming that he has informed his agent to search for a new club. There are things to like about the Dutchman but with four goals from 29 matches, he definitely hasn’t been up to speed – quite literally in numerous instances.
Should Zirkzee leave, United will need a replacement, and Amorim seems to have the perfect player in mind.

Man United chasing Champions League star
GIVEMESPORT revealed at the weekend that Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani is at an impasse with Tottenham Hotspur, for Daniel Levy is characteristically hesitant about accepting an obligatory buy option in a loan package stretching to the end of the season.
This could allow Man United – and Juventus who are both actively chasing a move – to steal ahead in the race for the wantaway forward. A loan deal could give the Red Devils some financial breathing room while improving the squad for the business end of the season, though a £50m fee would need to be paid come summer.
It’s all gone a bit wrong in Paris for the France international, but he’s still an immensely talented forward who could thrive in this new Old Trafford system.
What Randal Kolo Muani would bring to Man United
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has already confirmed that Man United have held exploratory talks regarding a deal for Kolo Muani, but as we can see, interest is fierce for his signature and hesitation may be fatal.
Randal Kolo Muani for PSG
Striker Kylian Mbappe hailed Kolo Muani, 26, as the “complete” forward, but with just 11 goals from 54 appearances at PSG since signing, it’s clear that he needs to search for pastures new, unfavoured by Luis Enrique.
Much of his time at the club has been spent on the bench – or coming off it during the second half. Kolo Muani does, though, maintain a fluent positional sense that could see Amorim deploy him across a number of frontline roles, something that could pay dividends for a United side looking to improve their dynamics up top.

It’s something that has foiled Zirkzee’s early efforts to succeed in the Premier League, for the 6 foot 4 talent is not consistent enough. He’s powerful and able to manipulate the spaces in and around the final third, though it’s clear that United need more energy and Kolo Muani could provide that in an environment that values his skills.
In 2022/23, for example, Kolo Muani scored 23 goals and added 17 more assists for Eintracht Frankfurt, principally fielded as a centre-forward and hailed by talent scout Jacek Kulig for being “on fire” in the Bundesliga.
German legend Lothar Matthaus also remarked that he “has the mark of a future superstar” during his time in the country, tearing opponents to shreds.
Zirkzee impressed with his intelligence and link-up play for Bologna last term but he still only scored 12 goals across 37 outings. The Netherlands international isn’t wasteful in front of goal, rather, he struggles to find clear-cut chances with all that regularity.
Of course, we can look at Kolo Muani’s numbers in France and surmise that United would be taking something of a risk, bringing him over the Channel.
France'sRandalKoloMuanireacts
But this is a player who tore German football to shreds when he was valued. The Frenchman’s energy and pace is exactly what Amorim’s system needs, still ranking among the top 12% of forwards across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for assists and the top 9% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref.
The time is now. Sir Jim Ratcliffe won’t want to watch Kolo Muani spearheading a Tottenham Hotspur resurgence over the coming months and needs to get this one done.

Shepherd's mistake was the final act of a scintillating affair at the County Ground. The defender turned a Miguel Freckleton cross past his own keeper in the 97th minute. With tensions running high, a number of Robins players surrounded the prostrate Shepherd, sparking some fisticuffs between both sets of players.

Bradford had taken a two goal lead as Calum Kavanagh bagged twice in the opening ten minutes. The game turned after Richie Smallwood was shown a straight red for a reckless lunge on Swindon's Paul Glatzel. That set the tone for a fractious back-and-forth affair. Kavanagh completed his hat-trick in the first half, and Bradford were leading 4-3 entering injury time. A far-post header for Harry Smith, his second goal of the game, levelled things at 90 minutes, before Shepherd's error gave Swindon, now managed by Ian Holloway, all three points.

The former Australia captain, known for his incisive and forthright views, spent the best part of his commentary years with Channel Nine
ESPNcricinfo staff15-Aug-2022After a celebrated commentary career spanning 45 years, Ian Chappell has decided to put down his mic. The 78-year-old former Australia captain, who is widely admired for his incisive views on the game and his forthright manner of expressing them, told the that he had been contemplating the decision for a while.”I remember the day when I knew I’d had enough of playing cricket,” he said. “I looked at the clock and it was five past 11 on a day of play and I thought, ‘S**t, if you’re clock-watching at that time, I have to go’.Related

And I just thought with all the travel and, you know, walking upstairs and things like that, it’s all just going to get harder.”Then I read what Rabbits [legendary rugby league commentator Ray Warren] said with retirement and it really struck home when I read the bit where he said, ‘you’re always one sentence closer to making a mistake’.”Chappell entered the commentary box towards the end of a playing career of 75 Test matches – 30 of them as captain – and became part of a team of distinctive voices that backgrounded Channel Nine’s broadcasts of Australian cricket for more than three decades, alongside Richie Benaud, Bill Lawry and Tony Greig.Channel Nine and Chappell enjoyed a long relationship, but not one without the occasional fraught moment.”Kerry [Packer, the media mogul who owned Channel Nine] wanted to sack me a couple of times,” Chappell said. “He used to get the s***s about one-day cricket, because that was his baby. And I might have said something about one-day cricket. With Kerry it was just like a storm – you’d let it blow over till the next one came.”When asked how he would like to be remembered as a commentator, Chappell replied: “It’s up to other people to decide what they think of me and some will think I’ve been all right. Some will think I’ve been a pr**k. That doesn’t bother me one bit.”Chappell has had to endure health issues in recent years, including a diagnosis of skin cancer, but he remained a sharp and fiercely independent voice on the game, in broadcast and print. He writes a regular column on ESPNcricinfo, where he recently questioned the seeming consensus among the game’s administrators that the future of cricket will inevitably belong to franchise T20 leagues, with Test cricket pushed to the margins.
Everton have now made contact to sign a new forward for David Moyes as they look to add more firepower to their ranks in the second half of the season.
Everton looking for additional firepower
Heading into the January transfer window, it was clear that Everton needed attacking reinforcements. The Merseyside outfit had managed just 15 goals in the Premier League prior to Sean Dyche’s departure, the second lowest of any side in the division.
As a result, they languish just above the relegation zone, with no player in their ranks having managed to find the net more than three times, an achievement shared by Dwight McNeil and Iliman N’Diaye.

And there is concern over the current options to lead the line, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin out of contract at the end of the campaign and having been linked with clubs across Europe, while Italian media has continuously suggested that clubs in Serie A are desperately trying to sign Beto after he struggled to make an impact at Goodison Park.
As a result, a striker is needed this winter, and Everton have reportedly held talks with Tom Cannon over a potential return to the club that he left in search of first team football.
However, that deal is deemed “unlikely”, with Cannon more likely to return to the Championship as things stand after a successful loan spell with Stoke City. As a result, Everton have been forced to look elsewhere, and have now made contact over a potential loan signing until the end of the season.
Everton approach Brighton for Ferguson loan
Now, TBR football report that Everton have made contact with Brighton over a move to take out-of-favour forward Evan Ferguson on loan for the remainder of the campaign. The Republic of Ireland striker has barely featured for Fabian Hurzeler in the first half of the campaign, starting just twice and finding the net on just one occasion.
Brighton & Hove Albion'sEvanFergusoncelebrates
However, he is undoubtedly a solid player, with Football Analyst EBL on X dubbing the 20-year-old “the next big thing at centre forward” on account of him being “lightning quick” as well as having “ferocious ball-striking”.
Quizzed on Ferguson’s potential destinations this winter, Hurzeler refused to rule out a move to a fellow Premier League side, explaining: “This decision should be what is best for the player and for the club. It’s more about what is best for the player.”
Now, TBR report that Seagulls chairman Tony Bloom has fielded loan enquiries from a host of Premier League sides chasing his signature, but that Brighton are “yet to green-light any talks” involving their potential future star.

ByDominic Lund Jan 15, 2025
One advantage that Everton could have is that Brighton are unwilling to discuss a permanent deal, instead looking for a loan where the Irishman can play regularly, something that a move to Goodison Park would definitely offer.
Any move would require some movement at Goodison Park, with Everton already having two loanees at the club in the shape of Jack Harrison and Armando Broja and Premier League rules not permitting them to add a third unless one of those deals was either terminated or made permanent.

Despite money being tight at Old Trafford, the Red Devils continue to be linked with potential new arrivals either for this month or for the summer transfer window. One player who has emerged on their radar in recent days is forward Nene Dorgeles, who plays for Austrian side RB Salzburg.
Fabrizio Romano states that United are monitoring the attacker, and he is among their list of options for either this transfer window or the summer. Romano goes on to add that initial talks have been held to get an understanding of the price and the overall package.
As well as looking at Dorgeles, United are also among the teams interested in signing goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The 22-year-old might be a player United fans are aware of, as he was close to joining the Premier League side in 2023 but decided against it as he didn’t want to be back-up to Andre Onana.
Suzuki has since joined Parma and has continued to impress so much that United are again looking into a possible deal for the player, who could cost as much as £40 million.
Man Utd monitoring record-breaking striker who will cost £25m
The transfer links don’t stop there for the Red Devils, as according to TBR Football, Manchester United are monitoring FC Nurnberg’s Stefanos Tzimas after learning he is open to a move to the Premier League.
It’s reported that United, along with West Ham, Newcastle, Tottenham, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest and Brighton, are all keeping a close eye on his progress in Germany. United’s arch rivals Liverpool may be considered ahead in the race as they have made an approach for the forward.
The 19-year-old is on loan at Nurnberg from POAK, but the German side have the option to make the move permanent for £15 million in the summer. They are expected to trigger that option and then look to sell him for £25 million after his exploits this season.

Tzimas is already a record-breaker at the young age of 19, as when he scored for PAOK back in March 2023, he became the youngest goalscorer in their history at the age of 17. The Red Devils are in the market for a new centre forward, with Amorim ideally wanting to bring in one this month.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled in front of goal before and during Amorim’s reign, and if that doesn’t change before the end of the campaign, one or both could leave, and Tzimas could be seen as a potential long-term replacement. The concern for United fans would be that it is another unproven player in English football, and again, it is a striker who is very young, when they are crying out for a more proven, experienced striker.
Lewis Goldsworthy’s maiden List A hundred brings light to dismal campaign

Olly Hannon-Dalby and Liam Norwell took two wickets apiece but George Garrett impressed most, conceding 37 from his ten overs.Warwickshire knew that reaching 267 would take them through to the knockout phase but their depleted batting order, without the injured Krunal Pandya and Michael Burgess, fell just short on 252 all out. Captain Will Rhodes (92, 103) and Ethan Brookes (51, 57) added 104 in 18 overs for the fifth wicket but there were no contributions of substance either side of their stand. After choosing to bat, Somerset soon lost former Warwickshire opener Andy Umeed, bowled by Norwell who also had Steven Davies superbly caught low at slip by Rob Yates. With three vital championship games to come in September, the Bears will be encouraged to see Norwell starting to regain full fitness and menace.Related

Rew and Goldsworthy rebuilt, slowly at first, then more fluently, reaching their half-centuries from 77 and 71 balls respectively. The latter struck 12 fours in a polished innings before falling lbw to Yates.Eighteen-year-old Rew was a boundary short of his second List A ton when he sliced Hannon-Dalby to short third man. George Bartlett’s tidy unbeaten 29 (21 balls) lifted Somerset to a competitive score.Yates (four fours and a six in 25) gave Warwickshire’s reply a brisk start until he was brilliantly caught at extra cover by Bartlett off Kasey Aldridge. A string of batters then also picked out fielders. Bartlett pounced again at extra when Dom Sibley (23, 36 balls) lifted a drive at Brooks and Goldsworthy added wickets to his earlier runs as Hamza Shaikh swept to deep mid-wicket and Matt Lamb cut to point. That was 95 for four but as Rhodes and Brookes’ enterprising batting righted the ship and got the crowd involved. England fielded three left-arm seamers and three spinners in the second T20I and may look to change the balance of their attack, with Olly Stone and Tom Helm in contention for debuts. David Willey has struggled in this series, leaking 85 runs in 7.3 wicketless overs, while Luke Wood found his second international appearance significantly tougher than his first.”There will be a couple of changes tomorrow, with guys coming back,” Moeen Ali, the England captain, said. “We’re not sure exactly who yet, but it’s about coming up with ideas and different ways to get wickets. That’s the crucial thing when you get a big score: if you’re taking wickets, most of the time, you’re going to win the game.”I thought we bowled well. Dawson was fantastic today and bowled four really, really good overs. [But] I thought we could have done a lot more. Nobody really bowled a bouncer, and we could have tried a few more things. But we can learn from that.”England’s changes are likely to come in their bowling attack in the first instance, with Moeen suggesting that Will Jacks – one of two fit batters on the sidelines in the first two games, along with his Oval Invincibles team-mate Jordan Cox – would have to wait his turn.”When their chance comes they’ll get a go,” Moeen said. “You don’t want to just give people games because there’s a big reputation. They have to earn their spot. Alex Hales has come in, Phil Salt is opening, Jos Buttler still has to come in. Someone like Will Jacks will wait.”He’s a brilliant player, everybody in England knows that, and I’m sure you guys will see him at some stage on this tour. We’re going to change it up a little bit throughout these next five games because we want to give players some game time and there’s a lot of guys coming back from injuries.”Chris Woakes and Mark Wood are not expected to feature before the Lahore leg of the tour but have both bowled with good pace in training and in pre-match warm-ups, while Reece Topley could also come into contention as England look to ease him back from an ankle niggle.
